Did you not watch the video UnholyJoe posted in response to Lonestar showing digging clay in the desert?

No because of time constraints it's either watch videos or play and I would rather play. Also I was still playing catch-up when I replied.

Yea, lights in general seem to have been toned down. The mining helm is about useless past a few blocks out.
The mining helmet seems fine to me. That would be pitch black without it:

Probably not since it kills performance, and performance as it is is already a huge issue. They need to optimise first before they can even think of adding it back.
You can already change it manually.. search back and you'll see the posts.. but as I said, performance slows down to a crawl, so odds are you've restore it to vanilla.
Yeps, I know I can change it manually via the console - this works fine in SP.
I haven't tried MP yet, so cannot confirm this, but I think someone from the devs commented that cheat mode needs to be on for the console command to work online (if it does at all). This is why it is a topic of concern to me.

I took a quick video of FPS numbers with 65 vs. 90 FOV. I don't see any issues performance wise - my FPS actually goes up ever so slightly when increasing the FOV. That said, I can only speak for myself, and someone else might have performance problems. Sorry if the counter is a bit blurry, but you should be able to see it on a PC monitor.

The test was performed in a secluded area, try inside a town and there will be a significant difference

Yes, my point was only to show that there was no slowing down to a crawl or killing of performance - which is my experience.

Inside POIs the increased FOV does drop my FPS, but not significantly. I'll take a comparison video of that too.

I just started a new RWG so a factory complex will have to do - no idea where the nearest big town is.

EDIT:

what disc yuou have? i have i5 with 1080 and 500g ssd. rarely drops below 60, most times above 120fps
Well I have my game on a SSD, but I imagine HardDrive related performance is tied to stuttering game play if the game streams from HD at any given time but I do not have stutter issues as such. The game itself does pause for a micro second as it remaps chunks ahead of me or plots zombie points but not sure the cause.

The general low FPS can stay as it is when I face certain directions without HD access or movement from myself, so with that its a game engine issue.

"jack squat" ... he was removed from the loot table :) couldnt pass that one up :)
question i HAVE to ask... new map, loot spawn set at default, type of game sp/mp and many people?

i too am getting way too much at default setting but that would/should be okay for several people in game at same time.
We are playing with everything on stock except drop backpack on death and 200% loot and I have yet to find any vehicle parts. I'm finding hundreds of arrows and lots of food, but nothing game breaking or too easy. We sold our extra food and extra arrows and barely had enough dukes to buy an anvil.

its on the round table. we are all having beer and pizza over it. we sent out invitations but no on rsvp'd.
no but seriously, the devs have been discussing this tho (only without the beer and pizza). :)
good to know, I would love to see the decision with the beer and without like Beer: "We should have glowing whalemingos in the sky (Phineas and Ferb)"

without the beer: "lets add some audio like a Geiger counter"

It's sad to see the reduction of the death debuff. Can't you just make it 1 hour on default and reduce or remove it on lower difficulties?
Don't know how I feel about the 20% damage reduction on wood blocks as I have yet to test it on horde night but seems alot of things are being made easier for the folks that complain about difficulty. Mining speed seems also fairly fast, much too fast for a starting character.

Regarding perks, I too miss the old system (only a part of, not the whole mechanic) where you had to do certain stuff to get better at them. What if they used the old system of learning by doing to level up only the starting tree attributes like strength and perception and for the perks under those specific trees you need experience points to unlock. At this point it's an odd felling to invest 6 points into strength to unlock 2 levels of a perk underneath that attribute. So, for example, you chop up a few trees, kill some zombies and mine some ore and you unlock level 1 of the strength attribute etc., then you only need to buy the perks you want underneath that tree.
Madmole said he does not like being forced to do specific stuff to level certain perks (like in Skyrim). I proposed the same system like a week ago but they won't do it (at least for now, knowing how they rework the main systems every alpha)

I quess he never liked to press E to harvest, to search/craft fertilizer and to search and dig clay too?

and tinfoil hat folks...
Hm, mine doesn`t seem to work. Because now when for some reason I cannot start random gen I am not angry on Kin, it is his baby and we will let him grow it no matter how long it will take.

One of the modders out there will likely re-add the do something to gain levels on stuff. I don't know which one but it is almost a sure thing because some of the modders love to make the game more complex.
