Re: difficulty
...sincere question.

Do people really want a game where there's little chance of failure?

Do people want a game where there's NO chance of a "crap happens" moment that's out of your control?

Cause those deaths are the best moments for me...
1) Nope. And I personally prefer it that it -is- a learning curve. I'm ok w dying, -if- there's a reasonable chance that I learn from it.

2) Nope. Yet learning should reduce those moments significantly.

I posted earlier about my 1st horde night and that I felt it was too hard for default difficulty.

I stand by that. IMO progression is important & just steamrolling folks on horde night doesn't seem like 'good' progression, to me.

I'm totally ok with the (rough) difficulty other than horde night.

I do hope they work-on/tweak a few things so there's a bit more of a ramp up.

Will admit that I'm worried that the only bases that will stand up to MID-game BMs will have to basically be bristling w -every- kind of turret/trap; and we'll be back to the whole, 'how'm I supposed to make all that damn ammo??' meme.

I'm not sure if I'm just unlucky but all my random gen maps seem really flat compared to a16. What height difference there is seems to be small hills not the large mountains that im use to in a16. Just wondering if anyone else is noticing the same issue?
Yeah , it might just be a thing , but I love it , really hated the old maps , one montain here and there is ok but maps made almost entierly of hills and montains , i'd rather have it like this flat and nice

I never died so many times before, meaning I don`t do something right, not that the game is too difficult. Now when I learned I have really good fun. Enjoy it boys. (banjo music)

The quest system might have a slight problem: Since you have to go to a trader for quest AND reward A17 will push players even more into setting themselves up near a trader.

Sure, it never is a bad idea to have a trader near you, but this is really stacking a lot of incentive on your choice of location (if you are using bases).

This supposes that traders don't run out of quests, I might be wrong there. But if not, maybe a quests 2.0 should make getting the reward independent of the traders.

I think that can be fixed. Not my department, but scale the loot somehow.
The use it to skill up vs the generic get xp and pick your poison never bothered me one way or the other. They both work and have their pros and cons. I don't consider using a skill to get better all that realistic, since many people repeatedly do things in life and still suck at them. I think natural talent plays a bigger part, which is more akin to roll some stats and pick your class at the beginning of a game method.
I agree with you, neither system is strictly better than the other. On the other point: I don't know anybody who has spent several hours on a simple task who doesn't get better at it. Complex task are another thing.

Issue w Fresh game for b199. Placing last of anything via R-click results in placement then immediately a Punch.

Place last Wood Frame, punch. Place Campfire, punch. Place last sapling, punch.

Someone with the know how please do me a favor.
look into the rwgmixer and tell me if the higarashi building, the crack a book admin building and the other sky scrapers are still in. did 6 worlds, havent seen em. and if they are in, are they just too low a % chance to spawn?
Not sure if it was intentional or not (could have been for aesthetic reasons in the short term) but the hubs aren't making downtown zones.

You can twix the prefabs and add them to the commercial or industrial zones. Then adjust your prefab list in the rwgmixer so skyscrapers can spawn in those zones.

I've been screaming this and I think the release notes say it too. Lower your damn resolution, the game still looks great and you can triple your FPS.
We shouldn't have to lower our resolution to fix something you haven't done or don't want to do. I've tried lowering my resolution and guess what? Not only was everything really blurry, but I gained very little fps. This is not a fix.

The worst feeling I've had so far(in a good way, albeit in hindsight only;) is one time I thought I had a POI cleared, on my way to leave one popped up, then another behind me, freaked and took an alternate way "out" just to end up going deeper, and deeper... room after room my problem exponentially accelerated to ever increasing levels of certain death. I must've had a dozen+ Z on my tail by the time I finally came to a bloody screaming halt. I have never died so fast and without question. This is a new game.
Yup. I got disoriented a few weeks ago, ran the wrong way. I was the meat in the sandwich. Another time I was already knee deep in POI walkers when a wandering horde busted in (They hate being excluded from anything and like to crash parties) so I fled but hit a dead end in a bathroom. I went out in a Blaze of glory emptying my AK like Carl Weathers in Predator and got rekt so hard.

I love that I'm being surprised and the veteran player is humbled. 3 different games died 3 times the first before day 3. Died 1 time in the second before day 3. current game no deaths but at least 5 "skin of my teeth" moments. Aaaaand I love it. The performance worries me a little but it still looks and plays great. I think I need to hold off a while on those quests though. Every one of them has had deadly threats that either killed me or chased me out of the area and I failed.

this is TFP helping the player to get the achievement "Meet Your Maker" die 500 times

If the base graphics improved, then yeh, lowering resolution IS the solution...

...and resolution is the numbers, not the other settings... Drop from 3440 to 1080, or from 1080 to 800...

The digging quests give the best loot by far, and the clearing zeds is good xp because you can do it twice (once before e'ing the !, once after).

Maybe this explains why I havent seen 1 skyscraper after flying around 5 maps?

With all due respect, in many cases, even with a lowered resolution, the FPS is still too low to be comfortable.
It varies from pc to pc. I'm just saying that the biggest win for a lot of people was lowering the resolution. We are working on optimizations and have a pretty nice one coming.

I just had a zombie spawn inside of a Working Stiff store I am living on and have my bed spawned on... No way he got inside as the entire thing is surrounded by spikes (had to injure myself to get him). In Navesgane day 6 and this is the first incident. Is this a known issue or should I report?
Thanks!
He might have been there the whole time, and I'm not sure how big the bedroll protection area is trying to claim a whole store might be too much.

Question to the developers:

Would it be possible to add a task at the end of map generation that checks SI on the whole map ?

Would be nice for just crashing the floating buildings, hiding these errors in the matrix for the playing people. The Debris would have not to be cleaned up, just leave the collapsed buildings lying there

On the 'Learn by Doing' vs. 'Buy the Perk';

Wonder if it'd be possible to add a sprinkle of Learn-by-doing that would 'train' Stamina?

Thinking about rl. Swing a hammer a lot & those muscles get more effecient. Same w running, digging.

Wouldn't have to invalidate the existing perks. Could be complimentary. Maybe even a nice cross-over like the fireaxe. Say a player really prefers to be an archer/gunner. If they cut enough trees they might be able to power attack a couple more times w the fireaxe without buying a melee perk.

Just a thought :)

So in trying to get my dedicated server up, Im having issues where it's a hit or miss if people can even join my server (or see it period). Some help with this would be appreciated, it's not my firewall, I've port forwarded, I've disabled my firewall in an attempt to fix, but no luck.

Also I had to tone down how many zombies can spawn in at a time because for some reason, you kill 1 zombies, 5 more would spawn in the same room. Im on a windows 7 machine for now until I am finished building my server tower (waiting on parts to arrives basically)

I also can't seem to make MYSELF an admin to the server.
