Hey, I think it’s weird too which is why I quipped pages ago it’s like consuming a glass bottle when making cornbread. We’re just jar smashing instructions burning dudes of the apocalypse. I was just giving an answer to “Why not a spring?” but agree there are alternatives to books to make recipes unique.
To me, it’s not a huge deal as guns are plentiful in the world now. I probably won’t even spend the point on the skill that allows me to craft weapons in the first place. Save that for something else.

I have no idea whether the action of “reading” will still be in the game to be used by modders. Hope so.
Well crap, if me AND you agree, Tfp needs to change it. Jax? Can we get you in on this? =)

...wonders if Roland released at screenshot on purpose just to bring the weirdness public...

I have the perfect Idea for a skill you would love:

clear sight

removes HUD from the screen

So... basically going back to using "gun molds" (interchangeable with gun book in this scenario) like in earlier alphas except consumable? (before my time, so I can't speak from other than the videos I have seen)
Oh the memories of gun molds. Good memories indeed!

Excellent idea!

Agreed. But there are less weird ways to do it.
Book burning being advocated by a teacher... For shame Roland.

Speaking of traders, I'm all for removing them entirely. Getting all geared up by day two because you sell all your crap is just a cheap cheat.
I agree or at least limit what they sell based on Game Stage or something.

I make a personal rule that I never buy anything above the level that I can craft.

I also turn off loot respawn. This is my way of making the game a bit harder.

Excellent, this makes the most sense to me. Finding complete and usable guns, but maintaining and crafting them effectively should be very difficult to do and require a lot of experience (ever seen gun smiths in action? it isn't something you can just learn from a book and be good at it quickly).

I honestly wish water was handled completely differently, something more like the canteens in DayZ or Mist Survival makes much more sense then the current jar system. Something I think needs to be revisited when water is revamped, and I've commented on this a few times already which I saw you also agree with.

What if reading books was on a timer and you would eventually forget the material unless you read another book?

Completely doable with the current buff system.

As of yesterday, bedrolls are now stored in the player persistent data, which has online and offline players, so sleeper volumes now check that and it can see all bedrolls. Land claim blocks are also stored in that persistent data and checked by sleeper volumes.
Wait... Really? Is there a range on that? Some padding on the range?

I've built POIs with multiple sleeper volumes. If I put a bedroll on one corner of the POI, I could be outside the boundaries of multiple sleeper volumes.

Soo... Clearing a POI and dropping a bedroll wouldn't exactly mean the POI stops spawning zombies.

Damn it. Why don't people read. Crazy and Video are both key words for 1 week delays.

You just added over a year to the game!

Bright side... A17 may now include bandits.... Next year... -.-

I'd like to see traders turned into a Dungeon Crawl Town.

Initially traders are trapped behind walls of zombies. Which, kinda makes sense. When things went South, that trader locked up for fear of looting. Things went further south, people started to want to get inside for protection.

When NPCs really come, traders having some saved people but surrounded by a small town of higher staged zombies would be pretty sweet.

I actually don't understand why all the hate people have with having anything on the UI, when people say "it isn't realistic at all" or "the UI takes away the immersion" kind of frustrates me.

In real life, when you are hungry, you know you are hungry without needing to open you phone to check to see what your hunger meter is. If you are hurting, and your leg is mangled, you don't even need to look at it to know your leg is in bad shape... you just know. This is what the UI is for, to conveniently tell you information that you would normally know just from being physically connected however the only option to represent this is visually (or sound but it isn't nearly as direct unless the characters SAY what their issues are).

I'm a fan of having food and water on the screen because I think it ruins immersion to have to check a window to see if I'm thirsty.

But... Why? You still burning books? Just go reread. I suppose at the very least you'd have to build a library. Which.. that'd be coo. Or you always need the book to craft but it's returned to you.

Ooooo. How about... You craft a gun, the books returned to you. If you want to craft stronger guns, maybe with some perks, you have to combine books, like at a research station. Books all start out Green. But as you combine them they get more epic through research.

I think books shouldn't be destroyed, but should instead have to be carried around and should take some time to read. Book difficulty will make them take longer to process, and you could even have a chance to fail learning anything from them.

There should be a rest mechanic in this game, where it would let the character read their book and would decrease food and water drain.

Think of the book system in Kingdom Come Deliverance.

oh don't misunderstand. i wasn't complaining. i am all for rarity based crafting gates.

using books is illogical from a realism perspective, but totes logical from a game play perspective.

that paradox is where i drew inspiration for my HILARIOUS post. but it was definitely meant as humor, not a complaint.

NOW WHO IS AHEAD OF WHO YOU DIRTY HIPPY?!??!

I suspend my sense of reality in many ways for this game. That is a good thing! It is part of Fantasy scenarios and making them fun and engaging.

Combining is something that I can not suspend my belief for. Turning 2 shovels into 1 better one is not something I can not wrap my head around.

My personal answer to this is not using that mechanic in any way at any time.

Just my opinion on this. Not saying it is better than anyone elses.

Combining two shovels isn't what this suggestion was about. Combining two books, is actually how research is in part done. lol. It's a concert of adding a new scaling mechanism outside of skills and really isn't a new approach. But one of the more sensical approaches. Now... Is it good game play? I dunno. Depends on how hard stuff is to find. *shrug*

Then if the combining mechanic is limited to books I could get behind that.

It sounds like there is a skill that handles the quality of guns made though and I like the gun mold idea much more than the books being used in the recipe.

that bring to exploiting that mechanic for fertilizer :)

imho generic ingredients are way too common

books are pretty rare to find so we couldn't mass produce gun
I'm not sure why you would want a bunch of guns unless you need complete guns for turrets now. Maybe there is a Tier 1 Pistol book, a Tier 2 pistol book, ect...
