We use both whenever applicable. Roads and speed are measured in miles, lumber and building supplies are generally in metric, beer comes in pints whereas wine and spirits are measured in millilitres.
We have mile-markers on the roads that have been there for about a thousand years (literally), it's going to take us a while to fully adapt. :-)
Probably when all us old foggies die; I still haven't figured it out. My son goes its easier than what we use and I go not to me. Seriously, they have been teaching it in schools along with the Imperial method, my grandkids use both depending on situations. We do need to push more to using the metric, though.

It's okay now. Everyone does it, so go ahead... Pretty sure the church says it's fine now, too.

You do realize that outside of this forum people are starting to call this game 7 years to release and different variations of that. And honestly I don't blame them it's only a bit over two more years and that will be the actual truth.

I would have personally jumped ship a long time ago if it were not for the completely superior building system in this game when compared to it's competitors.

To me A17 with it's additions and engine improvements is looking good and I have no other big complains about it other than the removal of backwards running because I like to kite dogs doing so but that is a personal preference.

More building options and more traps is what I personally desire because my games are always about building that impenetrable fortress.
Diablo 3 has been a trash simulation since ot came out in what? 2012? There is still no advances in that game and one “expansion” in all that time. So even AAA studios have slow progress, and this game is a voxel and was being MADE, not polished.

So, which do you want? The superior game or a faster release schedule? Because you can't have both.
Thats some glass half empty thinking there! If you apply yourself and redefine some words and you'll have both!

Oooooooooh, sorry babooshka, thats entirely your opinion. I played D3 on release and was absolutely disgusted. Stopped playing once i beat the game (story is still entertaining).

The xpac fixed so much, every big patch has made the game better. Rifts & Greater rifts are great. Its an ARPG Dungeon crawler now, path's new season is going that route (not exactly but its pretty similar)

Also, theyve got a lot of things in the works for D3 and some will be comin out before the end of the year.

BUT i do agree that things take time also problems can occur that stop you dead in your tracks. None of us know what TFP are dealing with.. well, except for the impatient people, we all have to hear about them :(

It's true that it's been almost a year since 16.4 was released. It's more than enough time to play multiple different map seeds and characters through and to get to know the latest game content. In other words, it's enough time to get bored of the game when there's nothing new and exciting for a long time, for me atleast.
Finally a mature conversation about that topic without emotional baggage mixed in.

This part of your post gave me an idea though: May it be the case that at least subconciously we mix up Early Access with Games-as-a-Service, because there are so many parallels to them? On the legal side TFP has no obligation at all to entertain us continuously, I'm sure nobody will contest this.

But maybe we still expect this because similar titles from AAA companies are using GaaS and there the deal clearly is "If you don't put out anything new in an acceptable time frame, we declare the game dead and don't pay the subscription or some cosmetic stuff from the store anymore.

Early Access doesn't have this deal. It is our own responsibility to not get burned out by the development process. One could construe a right because EA might unfairly use the best features of GaaS without having the disadvantages, but that's stretching.

(This is not really a reply to you, Nugetti, it is more a look at the deeper roots of the steam users impatience)

I want A17 badly, That being said...... I would rather they get it as polished as humanly possible BEFORE release. It does NO ONE any good to have a bug ridden pos. So take your time guys, and good luck.
Totally agree with you, I want it playable, not nice looking, messed up, deadly for the wrong reasons, _______ (fill in the blank).

If it is has bugs then all we will hear is the whiny babies complaining about how bad it is and it should have been fixed, when they were the ones wanting it released now.

7D2D between A16 and A17

I would pay money see you try to drive it
I would pay to see you drive it after it is put together because if I am not mistaken (or blind) I don't see any tires... :D

Just talked to the Huenink Brothers and they said it won't be this weekend starting Sept 7 for sure. Joel said 0% chance it will be ready this week.

Rick said it would be "overly optimistic to get it out before the end of the month".

They are 100% fixing bugs and making sure all of the features work with each other. They know that the community wants it and they know that it has been longer than a year. They understand the frustration that is out there but they are not going to rush what they are doing.
Tell them that many would rather it be playable than a mess and have no trouble waiting. Some will be babies and whine but they are the ones who would whine if it was released early like they want and have bugs in it. Ignore them and focus on the task at hand, getting the Alpha playable.

I have no problem in waiting longer, I had already remarked to people that it could be Oct before it came out, never know what could pop up when fixing bugs. Now I go with expect Nov and be pleasantly surprised and happy it if it is released in October.

Thanks for the heads up and being honest about it going to be later. Appreciate it and them being honest and letting us know also.

Everyone knows they secretly have the game PERFECTED and completely bug-free, but they simply aren't releasing it now out of spite, and every time someone here asks for it, they push back releasing it by one more week! lol

But 100% agreed in all seriousness, polish is great, polish polish polish that A17!!!

My only concern is that they are taking all this time and it will still be buggy. Not really a concern per say, because i know it will happen. My concern will be reaction. Even my own, because i have been around since A-6? so I know it will be buggy but it will be more difficult to run into game breaking bugs after this much polish.
I know it will be "experimental" and i know it will break but it will be hard after this long of a wait to run into random map resetting bugs. Not expecting anything to change, just thinking about it... :/

All this talk about months of bug fix after bug fix and i cant keep from expecting a somewhat bug free game.

It won't be bug free, it will still be in Alpha, they are just getting the worst of the bugs that would keep us from playing. Read the description of early access, a work in progress that will have bugs and problems that will be fixed when the game is finished in development and goes into beta to get it polished.

So, it will be buggy, but playable.

I have a question regarding alpha 1-7, Not 17. Is there any place to aquire a legitimate copy of alpha 1 2 3 4 5 6 7, Presteam copies.

I have checked TFP com site all point back here. I personally wish i had bought the alpha earlier, I like the variation and contrast plus I learn

from legacy builds. It is ironic though Im looking for 1 7 while everyone else is looking for 17.

Not that my opinion matters, but honestly I'd rather them release sooner rather than "less buggy" later because you and everyone reading this knows that we, the regular community, will find bugs that will require new patches and probably a map reset. Given that losing progress after waiting over a year for an update is another kick in the nuts, I'd rather get all the bugs found and fixed sooner rather than later. It will absolutely suck when experimental is dropped in another month or whatever, and you have a million people staying up all night to play and then there's a bunch of bugs found by the community... And then patches, map/progression resets and more angry mobs.

Oh well, at least I can focus on work :jaded:

You can do it through Steam, but only certain releases. Unfortunately I don't have Steam here at work to run through the steps, but it's a right-click menu where you can select the version. I'm certain someone else here will have a much better answer but it definitely can be done.

EDIT: You were looking for pre-Steam, I'm sorry. I read it too fast :)
