hello, the minimum pc config will still be the same for alpha 17?
Don`t be scared of trying to run it, since it still is alpha it is not optimised yet. After all, you can give a feedback when a17 release and say how it works. Good luck and welcome to the forums.

Yes, that could be a problem. That is what testing and experimental is all about. Design changes often cause side effects that need to be looked at. One idea I've had for a while is to give hordes their own path grid. Not too hard to do, but probably a few days of work.
Thanks Faatal, guess we just got to see how it pans out. Couple more questions if I may.

1. Am I correct in thinking that an active chunk is defined as one having a player in it

2. Whats the size of a chunk in blocks? eg 250x250

3. Is there any way for the player to know if their base, lets temporarily define that as the land claimed elements of the base, crosses into more than 1 chunk. Here I am thinking by using the map reference numbers

4. If a base is within only 1 chunk and, for example, my base is 150x150 then am I correct in thinking the issue would not occur because there is still enough room in the chunk for the horde to spawn in but OUTside the base perimeter?

5. Can you have the hordes spawn in at the edge of the players claimed area rather than a fixed distance away

The reason for the questions is i am trying to think of workarounds for the player to still have a big base AND have the zombies not spawn inside it.

****Anyone that has an answer or a link i'll accept. I have looked, and have not found the answer yet. At what point during the game process is the AI pathing grid created, world creation, spawn creation, an active sphere of influence, acombination or other?

**** i've found tons of examples, but none have told me when it is actuated.

Are we there yet!! Guess not ...July came and went as did August... Alpha 17 will always be remembered in the history of updates ...That is if it does ever appear.......Not holding my breath

sorry if i am asking the same things as other people just fed up of waiting
Good things take time. If TFP had listened to impatient people they would have released a much smaller game. Just check out a version from 3 years ago (you can do this in steam) and ignore bugs and performance problems that would have been removed by beta polishing.

Tell us if you would have liked that version, without all the features that came after?

What about a chunk observer that decays over time for any "changed" (player placed blocks or some other parameter) chunk?

Sure, it would beat the hell out of resources, but Fuggim... People wanna build mega bases then they gotta pay the performance penalty.

Well, pimps definitely make history. Now and before. Its been good. It will be better as always. Not there yet, but on our way.

1chunk =16blocks * 16blocks

If is your base this small you are impossible having problems spawning zombies in your base. :)

Yeah there has got to be a smart solution to this, when youve spent a couple RL months with your team creating your mega base of doom, with multiple moats, 3 perimetre walls, minefields, turrets chokepoints etc etc and you sit back in your tower to watch the horde get destroyed by all your hard work and they spawn in next to your main tower walls and start beating the c*** out of it thats pretty disheartening

guys i know a17 looks awesome but the character looks awfull in the last Joel twitter post very poor graphics for characters btw it s on ultra

i don t want to be negative or something but i think people enjoying making there own character so they look good i think TFP should redone
in my opinion i dont care if they turn the character into stick figure as long as the gameplay is fun im happy.

I find the game great, but I find that the lack of vehicule diver on the map is missing, veron we one day trucks, ambulance, motorbike to get on the road even if it will not be conducted will be more realistic in a post-apocalypse world

I confirm a chunk is 16 x 16 x 256 blocks :)
Also, this is probably copied from minecraft. What's the reason to have it exactly 16x16, instead of 15x15? Or 20x20? It's arbitrary, and mincraft was the first one to have 16x16

Correction:

actually 16 x 16 x 256 is a power of 2 and minecraft used 16 bits to address a single block in a chunk.

16 x 16 x 256 = 2^16 = 65536.. So there was indeed a reason for minecraft maybe. But for 7 days?
