I think the only feasible means of trapping animals with the current system is to create a trap object/block, and have it respawn "animal loot" in a random interval between 12 and 36 hours or whatever. Trap breaks after you loot it, so you have to recreate the trap each time. Add a "Trapper" perk series in the crafting/looting chain that increases yield and types of traps.Darkness Falls has a Fishing "Trap", that might be adaptable to catch animals, or at least the meat and by products. I don't think there's actually a way with out some c# coding to detain an animal since they will despawn.
