Darkness Falls has a Fishing "Trap", that might be adaptable to catch animals, or at least the meat and by products. I don't think there's actually a way with out some c# coding to detain an animal since they will despawn.
I think the only feasible means of trapping animals with the current system is to create a trap object/block, and have it respawn "animal loot" in a random interval between 12 and 36 hours or whatever. Trap breaks after you loot it, so you have to recreate the trap each time. Add a "Trapper" perk series in the crafting/looting chain that increases yield and types of traps.

I really like this idea of triggering a horde spawn after a high decible event because there should be consequences for being loud, this is one of the best ideas to come out of the forums in a while.
Thank you! It is probably too late to add extra events like this, but really hope the idea gets picked up by someone with the skills to mod it in. Would love more variety in horde events.

This actually used to be in the game for a time. If you made a lot of noise you could trigger a scream sound similar to what you hear when the blood moon horde starts and zombies would spawn all around you. They removed it though. I want to say it was around Alpha 7 or 8.

Thanks for the update. I think this is what people were looking for I know I was! Hope everything goes well from here on out cheers to all the hard work done thus far :)

Well a screamer can trigger a mini horde event so there must be code for it or an event we can trigger.

I was thinking it would be cool to trigger one to test a base. possible a quest to get a "Thumper" like in Dune that called the sand worms.

same for airdrops, I would like a quest/event/item that could call in an airdrop. like in Rust.

@Kinyajuu

Thanks for all the hard work and updates on the changes. It's looking very good! Is there a chance you can increase the number of characters for map generation from 12 (or 13?) to say 30 or more? If so, thank you!

@Kinyajuu Any chance we can utilize GPU computation for random map generation?
That would be a nightmare to set up, more so now with the new shadergraph system. It's possible but I doubt the time and effort required to implement it is worth it for the handful of people playing on a local instance who would actually use it. Dedicated servers rarely have a GPU powerful enough to make it worthwhile.

You can use more than 13 characters for RWG.

In A16 you cannot preview a map with more than 13 characters without a UI mod as that is the limit for the previewer.

The use or creation of worlds with seeds longer than 13 character though requires no modifications and just works.

Search my posts if you need/want a link for a UI/HUD mod that allows previewing of seeds with more than 13 characters.

I'm sure they had their reasons for removing, but that sounds awesome. I'm sure TFP want more horde events in place in future alphas. Priorities I guess. I'm excited about all of the changes we've heard about so far for A17 so no complaints from me.

Your airdrop comment got me thinking... it would be awesome if we could find/learn how to make a way to communicate with the outside world (air drops) and the feedback could let us know how much time until the next air drop... maybe we could even communicate coords to where we would like the air drop and it lands somewhere within a 100 meter radius. I do kind of like how the air drops make you get out and travel more though... 6 one way half a dozen the other I guess.

Bonfire beacons. Columns of thick smoke that are easy to see from an approaching plane, but with the side effect they also pull in zombies from all around. Almost like a 7th horde while the bonfires are active.

I think he means just for the generation calculations.

I know nothing at all about how any of that works technically, but maybe the gpu could take some of the computing load off the cpu, and decrease generation time significantly?

It wouldn't make it into a17, but it might be worth exploring for a18.. or maybe just a 17.xx update, since that wouldn't really involve any gameplay.. just world generation.

In the last screenshot I dont see any difference to A16. On the first & second its hard to tell since holding an torch always looked nice. Have you guys the hype glasses on or am I just blind ? Rolands stuff didnt hyped me ... are the screens comparing to A16 to get me on the hype train too ?
Since the game isn't optimized yet I play with most of the graphics settings pretty low and know several who do the same. As far as I'm concerned, it's still alpha and graphics are pretty much backseat.

That is MY opinion. I know that plenty of players have a high opinion of graphics. I just want a game with no lag. But in my opinion, no noticeable difference for what settings I'll be using, unless they get the game optimized. And since I have no idea what that entails, I keep that opinion to myself and just keep playing the game.

@Roland
Did you try doing a underground hideout, for science and for funsies yet?

I have a feeling, that the result is gonna please everyone. So going a few blocks down will make the zombies hear you and dig. But a bedrock type base is still gonna work.

Except maybe for hoard night.

On second thought, dont tell me :D
If zeds can sense you through fifty seven solid blocks to hear/smell you at bedrock, then you'll need at least a fifty seven block thick wall on your aboveground bases. I simply don't see them being able to sense you unless they introduce an air system where we have to vent our smoke and what not out of the underground base.

I could be wrong, but just on basic maths it doesn't make sense for them to sense you at bedrock and not through a one block thick wall at your aboveground poi. Mebbe Roland has his advanced maths to help.

Feat Freeze -> Hitler Vid -> MM gameplay-> Spider Meme -> Stream Blitz ->

-> Release Candidate -> A17-E

What does this even mean, quoted from the original post?
Each of these allegedly happen in sequence before every alpha. That's what they tell us, at least, me...I'm skeptical.

So what you are saying is that they thought it would be a good idea to upgrade the engine a month before you wanna release an big update. Cause what should go wrong. Best Idea ever.
Did....did Beazey make a burner forum account just to troll Roland on one post? Sure, best idea ever. Must be nice to have nothing else to do.

Just like they removed the older intro song.... Any idea why they did that.. it was alot better then the current one ;)
