The old vehicle (minibike) was/is being replaced by a modular system that supports varying amounts of wheels, motors (propellers) and forces (like buoyancy for boats), with much of the system configured by data in xml.
Unity provides the basics of what you need, which is not a vehicle, but parts to make one, which the old minibike did not use.

RigidBody and WheelCollider.

Those are not things you just slap together. They require a lot of code and a ton of tweaking to get them to work and feel right.

Our main vehicle code file is 3581 lines. The vehicle data code file is 1078 lines. There are 13 other code files for vehicle systems like the engine. The vehicle data in xml is 677 lines.
Cheers for the clarification.

I know about the unity vehicle system, I've expanded it myself to add destructible bodywork panels and other gubbins. I was trying to keep things simple for those of us who aren't code-monkeys. :-)

Apologies if that last sentence gets everyone shouting about fully destructible vehicles, this is why I was intentionally vague.

I'd MUCH rather have better ai and pathfinding than a passenger seat. The loop de looping of the zeds in a16 made us stop playing for the last 5 months.
Add convenience stuff like the passenger seat after big game change stuff like quests and ai improvements.
Exactly our thoughts. Zombie behavior and pathfinding affects every player and throughout the entire play experience. Passenger seats only apply to multiplayer and later in a game when you finally get a multi seat vehicle. Easy call.

Cool, I just wanted to clarify that Unity vehicles were not some easy drop in thing.

Just think people... get ready for the future!

Well the game is done and Gold:

Where are the DLCs you promised?

It shouldnt take too long to put DLCs out, right?

Where is all the new stuff that was promised on the kick starter and never added?

Why cant my server handle 150 players?

Whats with the lag when there are 20 people flying around in random gen past 50KM?

Where is the Behemeth?

When we get EA to 7dtd part II?

This game and company is going to hell in a hand basket!

its gonna happen and we all know it :)
Yes Joe. Why can't my server handle 150 players !?!?!? Gotham requires it!

you jumped the gun my batty friend... i said the prediction is after the game goes gold. :) so put that question away into the time capsule and ask again after said event. :) but for what its worth... my gold copy doesnt support 150 players but it does handle 145 players easily. :)

*fishes in pocket* Here’s a cork...
First, I am concerned that you are walking around with a cork in your pocket. You aren't one of those Corksoakers are you?

And B, what else is in there?

I've been following the forum and this thread in particular for some time and thought it's high time I stopped stalking and chipped in...

I mainly play 7dtd in SP or co-op on a private server with friends and have 600+ hours on it so far (from alpha 15 onwards), and with a large library of games for me to choose from it just goes to show how much it stands out to me.

To get back to topic, the passengers in vehicles are a luxury item that I can do without for now, let's face it even with friends if you are going looting you'll want two jeeps for the extra loot space. :smile-new:

Anyway, mostly just wanted to say hi and thanks to the devs for a great game that is only going to get better!

Question:

Is there any work done on the mines?

I remember epic caves, tunnnels and nice mines to build underground. In the actual version its just a spamdigging tons of blocks and create gigantic holes. In this point the game had definitiv some better state in previous versions.

3 things I see wrong with your argumentA. This is not a big budget game...it was kickstarter early access

B.. Fun Pimps is not a big developer

C. Just because you want swords doesn't make it so...its not your game

Coughs * VIDEO * Coughs
I think they were trying to be sarcastic but I could be wrong.

@mikeee

So on one hand, you're lamenting that a feature that was mentioned is likely not going to be in this iteration of the game (a17), but on the other, you're saying they should hurry up and release this iteration (again, a17) as is?

Choose your side.

I don't think you said anything about a demand, but you assume that they simply forget features all the time. "you don't wait to mention something" is only necessary the first time. "Dad, I have to pee" should inform dad about it. "Dad, I have to pee, I have to pee, I have to pee, I have to pee" doesn't add any more information to it expect maybe that it is important to that child.
The only reason to think that the developers need that information although it has been mentioned not only by us but also by them(!) is if you think they forgot. Ok, sure, it's a plausible motive. But really you could just ask once if the developers already have a list of features (ordered by priorities) and if "passengers" is on it somewhere. That is much more efficient than us shouting all the possible features once a week in the forum to simulate a ticket system they probably mostly ignore because they have a feature list.
:D I feel we are getting each others thoughts upside down and inside out. I am sure everything being asked for lately has been asked for dozens of times both by new members and maybe even repeatedly by others. My point is not in what is being asked but the when. My understanding was even if it was something never mentioned before don't ask about it until the game is finished which to me is just a tad too late. No one would think about changing something they have added and think works well even if the new idea may improve on it somewhat. My thoughts on it are if something was mentioned after everything is done it would go something like this. "Hey, that is a really good idea you have there. Everyone needs to pee, but I have the game set up and running pretty smoothly now. If only you had mentioned it earlier I could have given it some thought."

Am going to stop my end of conversation here as I feel I am taking up too much forum real estate when there are more important things that it could be used for. Thanks for not turning it into a flaming war and talking to me like I was an idiot.

(you weren't talking to me like I was an idiot were you
:) )

I'll be happy if the 4x4 has more cargo space than the minibike. I'm a digital hoarder. No loot left behind, and I'm not about to change my play style.

I won't complain about backpack size, though. I took a piece of the Simple UI mod and have a giant minibike basket now. I plan to play vanilla A17 at first, and once I think I have a good handle on the game I'll go nuts in the xml. The only thing I enjoy more than an awesome game is modding that same game.

I love when you talk vehicles to me! I'm already planning what vehicles to mod in, even more when passenger support eventually gets added.

Zombies and searching for players:

I've seen sound mentioned and brought up the hopeful improvement by direction.

Is smell coming back?

What about if a player a light, will that attract the Z's? like torch at x distance, flashlight at y distance and mining helmet at z distance? It would lend more to using NVG's instead of just selling them off to the trader. I use both the nvg's and mining helmet if I get them both.

If passanger seat is not a thing for now how it work if your coop-player jump on roof of jeep? It would be nice temporary replacement for passenger seat while it isn't done yet.

interesting point...

You'll likely slide off the roof but if someone mods the back into something like a pickup truck you should, in theory, be able to stand in the back and be carried along like that. No guarantees that a sudden stop won't kill you though.
