Pro and anti streamer comments? We must be getting close!
When we have pro-anti streamer and anti-pro streamer arguments, 10 forum pages per hour, and someone asks "How long till A18 comes out?", THEN we'll be close!

You know, it would help a lot if someone from TFP were to release a gameplay video demonstrating the new features so we don't have to get our news from youtubers and twitchers.
<cough> <splutter> <hack> vid... <wheeze> <bark> vide... <heave> <hawk> <rasp> video! <cough>

<collapses on the keyboard... in the distance sirens wail>
I support "The Gronk" on this one, Please make a New feature video :) BUT don't give everything away! I do like to get shocked

Game devs favour streamers because streamers are able to reach wider audiences than they'll ever be able to reach, so it's very good publicity. And very good publicity means more sales, which means ongoing support for the game, both in terms of bug fixes and of content. Long story short, anyone that likes the game should be happy that streamers are willing to stream it.

As for not having spoilers or anything, I can hardly understand that argument. Do you click on a stream or a youtube video that is streaming 7 days to die a17 experimental and then are shocked when some content is spoiled or something?

P.S.: I don't really watch streamers or youtubers other than very occasionally. I still don't hate them for getting early access or anything.

I agree with that. Us as streamers advertise the game and try to bring new people in that has never seen the game. With spoilers, it's no different then when Joel will post videos on A17. You want to see as much info as you can for any new Alphas.

Agreed as well, as far as getting the product out to more people, good for TFPs.

I remember I wasn't on board with the whole Stream Team thing when it was first announced, as with many others, it didn't set right.

But, we didn't have to wait for like months or even weeks to play it after the Stream Team was done showcasing.

It was just to bring more hype to an upcoming release, and I think it did wonders on sales & popularity.

I don't think I'll watch the streamers this year, I want to experience the new car smell for myself.

(Watching streamers play is like watching a cooking channel and the adult channel in picture-in-picture, I really want to eat that, and those fluffy hamburgers look good too)

It's cheap advertising. Think about it, ign PC gamer or any of them are not going to cover 7 days to die 5 years later for a single update.

There are enough people who have played then walked away or just never jumped in that allowing folks like the girl I quoted to get the game a few days to a week early is very good return on investment.

At most it costs @roland a few "that no good M-Fer" comments but lets face it if we are still checking in on a 5 year old game that has had nearly a year with no updates they are not going to run off and quit because of it.

I only watch streams/videos to see how progress is coming.

I'm curious, though...why -only- streamers? Why not the dedicated crowd that won't complain about bugs and broken things, should they find any, and actually post constructive information?

Sry but that cracked me up :D :D

Cheers

You really want a frisbee grenade.Add a sharp edge and you can cut a zombies head off, then blow it up.
The hubcap mines ought to be a natural choice for the thrown mine/grenade option, and they ought to be irresistible to zombie dogs.

Z-dog horde, frisbee grenade, good times.

The good old "no updates is killing the game" has one flaw.So far it's been proven wrong with every single alpha update.

Until it manages to be right at least once I wouldn't waste too much time worrying about it.

It's development. Fast doesn't always work.
Good point. Imagine the poor souls that expected a bad updates... it just doesn`t work here.

P.S. By any meaning I don`t wanna offend people that are impatient or raging, but boys and girls.. good things take some time.

Stream Team whats that?

Since the announcement of this becoming a thing has lowered my interest in watching YouTube and Twitch. Why? Because hearing them not knowing how to work stuff in game is a joke, specifically when supposedly you've around for a while.

Personally watching anyone outside the dev team showcase the progress is a waste..

Pimps, continue to do a great job, many of us are waiting patiently for you to release updates when you feel it has come to that point.

It's a show. Streamers who play efficiently and don't screw up in hilarious ways are boring to watch. =P
It's definitely more entertaining with all the screw-ups. And you definitely screw up more when you're trying to entertain people.

I know they were working on something that I didn't understand with the coordinates of your player so that the maps could be bigger? Is Navezgane going to be the same map as it was? Will I see the new features random gen with Alpha 17? I was confused, thanks. I really enjoy the bigger maps but obviously want the bells and whistles.

I think it's called origin point. It sounds like each region will have an origin point instead of the entire map having a single origin point at 0,0. This will help prevent the shaky hands you get when you get further from the center. This could possibly lead to the ability to make bigger maps, but the devs have not said that we will see bigger maps in a17 as far as I recall. Modders could probably do it, though. From one of Madmole's videos it looks like there will be a new portion of the Navezgane map near Perishton.

Okay, I've got a few minutes, let's see if I can explain this in a way you can get your head around. I've implemented this myself on a far larger scale so I know it well.

As it stands going further than 10km from the centre of the map causes issues with the character shaking, the further you get from centre the worse it becomes. This is mostly caused by unity's strange insistence on using "float" instead of "double" for the main playing area. This would still happen if they used doubles but you'd have a far larger distance before the shaking occurs.

The way to solve this is that when the character gets too far from the centre of the map you then redraw the map with the characters current location at the centre.

For example, you travel West for 10km, before the shaking becomes a real issue. At that point the map is redrawn but offset 10km West, you're still 10km from the original centre of the map but the players character is in the centre of the playing area where the shaking doesn't occur.

You can hide the redrawing of the map from the player and, with a bit of programming skill, the transition should be largely unnoticable as the only things that really need to be moved are the player and any Z's that may be around.

I managed to generate a 1,000,000 km wide map using this technique before the libnoise library started to break down, it simply couldn't calculate the map with enough accuracy. 1 trillion square kilometres of terrain... damn... I _still_ like hearing the sound of that :-)

I died on the streamer hill last year and Im not afraid to admit that I was thoroughly wrong over it. Streaming is the future of advertisement like it or not, and their team is comprised of good people. I have enjoyed getting to know Bearded Guys Gaming, Kage is a huge fan of Ravenhearst and fun as hell to watch and Pokket is very awesome to her audience and just had a very successful charity stream. Kickz speaks for himself. He's a great guy who deserves his success and ALL of the above are fans of the game as well.

There are plenty of other things to get mad about. If anything the streaming actually helped keep a few major bugs from creeping into Experimental that EVERYONE would female dog about, even though you try to say you wouldn't have.

So yeah, lighten up on the streamers guys. Like Gup said the QUALIFIED forum members are already either on the Dev Team or are already beta testing.
