I would love to see a pve-Animals-only game option (with all of the 7dtd critters)
.. and welcome back :)

along with lions and tigers and, well was going to say bears, but they are already there, but still the oh my fits in.

That would be a interesting game. Have a game where it hit the animals and some of the humans who are immune (NPC) and you are faced with some wild animals, some that are zombies and some that aren't. Predators where some are zombies and the herbivores don't have any zombies animals. Or bandits that are NPC and are a threat. Blending of 7 days and Subsistence.

I think part of the reason why PvP might not be as popular in a game like 7 days to die is the investment. Unlike an arena shooter, where you start a match, win or die, and start another one, in a sandbox game you first have to invest time in gathering resources, building a defensive structure, crafting your weapons, scavenging, etc. and seeing all that effort go to waste when you get defeated in PvP is never fun.

A solution to this could be to enable PvP times, during which no zombie attacks bases, and the damage done to bases is instantly repaired/rebuilt after the PvP time ends. A similar thing could be done for finite resources such as ammo, although that's less problematic, IMO.

If my base wasn't gonna get destroyed forcing me to spent hours gathering and building again, I'd totally be into 7days PvP, tweaking my base after each "match" depending on how it failed.

Fair points so far. :) Again it was one of those spitball ideas from the gamer side of my head. This is not at all something we would consider in reality. Thinking about what's said, yeah, it's a silly idea outside the realm of RP. :)
It also ruined The Walking Dead for me. It got ridiculous that neither Rick nor Negan wouldn't just KOS each other. Instead...endless blabbing and lots of missing when they did finally decide to shoot. There has to be a limit to calling each other out....lol

I get irritated by how rare brass is, there is never enough shell casings so I never have enough, I got gun powder and lead coming out of my ears though.

So how do you combine the time investment of 7days and the fear element of PvP? Dead is dead.

...you die and lose your map, your skills, your claim, and your items? You're going to be a lot more cautious about engaging in battle.

If you're ridiculously over powered and can one shot anyone? Well, that will either promote team effort against you, or push for a game design where a bullet will kill you, no matter the gun quality.

Hello Devs, Mods and 7dtd community.

If i recall correctly there was a single chunk of improvement in view distance (11 --> 12) when the game got updated from A14 to A15. Since there are some tasty changes/improvements listed on the first page regarding A17 like game engine update to Unity 2017, support for new APIs, faster loading times, fixed micro-stutter, etc - Are there going to be any further improvements to view distance in A17? Like from 12 chunks to 13/14? Or is it something that might be improved after A17 or maybe even stay at 12?

Regards :)

God just make something with these animal animations. Put motion cap on some bears or wolfs, just do something with it for christ sakes PLEASE. It is looking really weird.

I play video games to have fun and relax, and spending 40 hours playing something only to find I was killed while I was logged out and asleep, or to get one-shotted by someone 500m away and lose all of that investment is not relaxing nor is it fun.

I have lots of friends who were interested in ARK who did not buy it because of the stories they've heard about PvP in it. There is a fundamental difference between games like TF2 and 7 Days to Die when it comes to PvP.

Even with a game like Dark Souls, if someone invades you and kills you a) you barely lose anything and b) you can't be invaded again for a while. What would stop a person with a high powered, accurate rifle from spawn-camping in 7 Days to Die?

There are lots of games that I like that I can't play because of the PvP aspect- like Haven and Hearth- simply because of what PvP translates to in the real world: people who get their kicks out of killing new players so they never get a chance to even get started, let alone get to a point where they can fight back. And if one bullet will kill you, no matter what, then it devolves into nothing but ambushing people from as long a range as possible to kill them before they even know you're there, which is, effectively, "there was absolutely nothing I could do to prevent this" territory.

Especially with how the difficulty ramps up over time in terms of numbers and kinds of zombies, losing everything three weeks in could be, for most people, just insurmountable.

I think the bigger hurdle is overcoming that time investment for new people to the server. Dead is dead would help, but in theory you could still have a few players that get so far out ahead of everyone else that they're nearly unstoppable under the current system. If those few players are on the same 'team' then it gets harder to form an effective assault against them.

If anything, I would say a PvP mode would close that gap such as a player cannot be 'one shotted' nor does it take 100 bullets to take down another.

Personally, I don't PvP seriously in 7D2D just because that's not what appeals to me about the game. If I ever wanted PvP, I'd want it in a mod similar to Ravenhurst where the progression is slowed down so much and the zombies powerful enough that going against other players becomes a viable option for survival, if that makes sense.

even though i agree that there is a lot of room for improvement, i think that this particular matter is very close to the bottom of the priority list...

Pretty much illustrates why it's necessary to have a full PvP "mode", where the rules change, rather than just an "allow PvP" option, so that it's a different experience using the same game.

If it fixes 4 legged creatures phasing halfway into a door or wall, I hope it's high priority.

@kinyajuu

Has there ever been any thoughts about re-including horde mode from old 7 days to die? It was an amazing "bite size" mode for fast single evening playtime.

Were you around and playing when that was part of the game?

It was a very small map where you could play a frantic short coop game with lots of enemies right off the bat.

There have been thoughts....and talk....and PLANS!!!!!! :)

Probably not until later but there is definitely going to be a return of horde mode.

How about the ability to mod the frequency of horde nights or modding in randomization

Paper Bag.
Translation: how about a dev expose the frequency of horde nights to xml and include a random range, so that it's not always 7, so that modders can do it without using custom code?

That does look like a lot of fun...also, pretty amazing to see how far the game has come.

I don't believe there has to be a big penalty on death for PvP to be fun at all. In fact, if there isn't one, you can also have more fun trying crazier stuff. Hell, a lot, if not most, of popular PvP games don't have the "fear element" since they're match-based, and the ones that do like say, DayZ, are usually rage-inducing (and that's where you find the most toxic people that get off on ruining others' games). I don't understand why a player should be punished by turning all the hours he invested in building up to be able to stand against someone else into wasted time just because he lost. We're not playing the game of life.

And maybe that's why the 7day PvP community is so small... The larger PvP communities have one thing in common... For the /most/ part, people are equal. If that were true for 7days then you would not feel the large loss when you die dead is dead.
