Ah, I miss these days, too. Its too quiet I know. But I remember very well that he said that when things go up to the point, where he can show us good looking and working stuff, he will be back. Much more often than now.
Yeah true, I remember that as well. That was about 7-8 months ago.. Time flies.

I want to see heated discussions on whether DPS is better than damage per shot. How accuracy and recoil mods favour one or the other and why this is all wrong and you should be looking at something totally different. =P
I'd take damage per shot and accuracy over low recoil and dps.

As i try to role play survival, it makes sense to waste less. I mostly use melee but carry some kind of firepower for unexpected situations.

One thing that bothers me is that guns ain't much of a upgrade in terms of damage. It might take more shots to the head then hits with a club. I gain range but lose time in terms of gathering materials and crafting the ammo.

I know everybody wants more guns not less but i would prefer less guns that actually feel like an upgrade once you find them. ATM guns don't make me feel more powerful.

(of course guns are preferred during horde night if you plan going out on the open since more stamina is reserved for running)

And since you can't tell, i'm very heated by thinking about it :)

That's why I'm baffled that some players even want gun parts back. There is nothing interesting or epic about those. A number goes up and if the number is higher it's always better than when the number was lower.

There need to be choices, cool unique weapons to find, decisions on whether to install this or that mod into a slot...

Gazz I have been here since nearly day 1 and I HATE GUN PARTS!!!

It was without a doubt the most immersion breaking annoying mechanic in the game. No one ever keeps a gun safe full of random non matching parts.

THANK YOU for removing them. I honestly have been bugging for this for years.

One of the "explain it away" answers to that has been "you're only finding the usable parts". So you find a single component of a 45 because the rest of it is unusable or broken beyond repair.

Yeah, I don't like that explanation either. :p

Gun parts

Jax, DaVeg, I know the old gun part system inside and out. It was very limiting.
All you are hearing seems to be "removal of gun parts". Well think of it this way, each of those parts were basically a limited version of what mods are. The new mod system even uses the old assembly screen.

Only one actual item ID in the xml has to be used for all item mods. The mods are stored in another xml file and have an upper limit of 32,000(ish) possible mods. In the old gun system a pistol could only have a single item assigned as it's "barrel"

Now, using tagging and mods, a pistol COULD have 50 different types of barrels. All that do various things aside from editing the same set of stats. One could add damage and take away magazine size; One could have less damage but give you 1hp per shot when you hit an entity; One could give you any level in any skill for a specified time after a kill. 3 off the top of my head that are possible in the new mod system, and that's just scratching the surface..

The limited nature of gun "parts" evolved into a mod system that can now work on any item in the game, not just tools and weapons. The new system can mimic the old system exactly if that is the desire, but, it can also do much much more.
Haven't been around in a while but the change in gun parts sounds like it could be amazing. Can't wait to play the new Alpha, thanks for keeping up the hard work!

5 seconds in, and I hit the X button, lol.
You have to admit that the guy really looks like he should know women.

Not really. He looks like a desk jockey with side arm that thinks he's a 8 when he's really a 3 on a good day.

I'm a 3 that knows he's a 3. I compensate by pretending to be a Muppet Baby dressed as wrinkled and green Star Wars puppet.

Not all of us will miss gun parts. I did not enjoy that mechanic and think the new way will be far more superior and make far more sense to new and old players on average.

I did not mind the gun parts the first couple of times I started up a game and played solo. But after running a couple longer games with some friends, going through a couple dump boxes worth of parts every other time we went out scavenging and piecing them altogether for better guns became a chore. I am interested to see how the new gun mods system works out.

I will not miss the endless rows of boxes loaded with various parts of various qualities.

I don't post here very often, because usually anything i have to say has already been said. I tried to catch up from about page 852 or something, but my brain started dribling out of my ear from the constant talk about the HP bar. I gave up in the end and jumped to the last page because i have an idea for the dev's.

So, we currently have motion sensers, trip wires and auto turrets that pick up on movement and (in the turret's case) turn and follow/shoot the threat. How much of a stretch would it be to take those motion sensors, and turn them into actual cameras? Like a cctv kind of thing?

We already have power, we already have TV's.

At the moment, say a wandering horde comes up to, or near my base. I can hear my auto turrets going off, but they don't cover the entire boundary. So to let me know if there's a Z up to no good outside i have rigged up motion sensors to lights inside, and when the MS detects movement, it lights up a specific light, and i know which area the Z is in. If i had a camera rigged up to a TV instead, i could then view the screen to see if that Z is being a problem (i.e, breaking walls or eating my potatos).

Perhaps if in the future we could have a PDA or similar, we could also have the option of viewing those cameras from off base, maybe buidling antenna stations at certain distances to carry the signal etc. This would give us the ability to check on our base when we're out roaming, or to see if any Z's have breached the base and are waiting to chew on our faces when we unwittingly walk in.

I have no idea about coding, but even a Z can guess that it wouldn't be a five minute thing to integrate. Just thought i'd throw the idea out there :)

TL;DR,

Can we have cameras please.

While you are at it, I want to be able to hook up cable to my TV. It may be the zombie apocalypse. But that doesn't mean I can't watch my GoT.

Seriously though, camera feeds would be pretty sweet.

But I loved collecting all the gun parts and trying to get one of each and put them in two chest and just sit there and stare at them. Imagining how much slightly better the damage and wear loss will be when I finally find the schematic to use them. LOL Not really. Replacing those for the mod system is probably the biggest improvement in the game I've seen in A17, IMO.

Did you say "cool unique weapons to find"? As in there will be more base weapons than there are now?

You'll get a heated discussion when you have achieved a good balance across all the weapon options. I think the new mod and buff system is going to mess up balance at first but I know it will get worked out.

I think Z's are cleared out of the chunk after you leave, so the PDA would be useless for PVE unless the devs did something that kept your base chunk active at all times and randomly spawned threats for it while you were out (as long as they don't just randomly wreck the entire base like wandering hordes currently do if they run into an obstacle), but it would be a neat concept to occasionally have to clear out Zs that broke down your door and made a new home of your base.) As for PVP I don't think it would be that hard a concept to implement, since that chunk would have to be active for the invading players. You would only need to set up a sensor of some type and it could alert you that your chunk i.e. your base has a pos threat nearby.

For those that know, would keeping the chunk or maybe a player "viewable" distance (tied to a bed maybe) active other than just what your character is in be too taxing on the game in PVE/Single Player situations?

Or hook it up to an actual outside camera so you'll notice when it's getting brighter and you should prepare to go to work.
Or you could use redneck technology like a hole in the wall with a glass plate put in. Nahhh...
Glass plate? We save that fancy stuff for when the sister/cousin/girlfriend come over. I prefer to just get drunk, punch two holes in the trailer wall, and put in a couple solo cups with the bottoms cut out. Makes me feel like a submarine captain.

Whole guns instead of gun parts is going to change a lot. I'm excited to see how it plays out in both pve and pvp. I think we'll actually start to see a lot more gunplay. I always just use a sledgehammer for zombies and very rarely guns for other players or for cops / extreme horde situations. Might use guns more if they are more plentiful.
