I just had a vision of me running out of gas in the air. Auto rotating down with alarms going off...into an awaiting horde. :) yes please.
That thing is so cheap, you don't get no alarms! You would get the absence of engine sound.

Love it. Landings must be a challenge. I bet there will be millions of "Oh blop" moments ;)
It should be interesting. Depends on how dumbed down we make it. Right now it is a mashup of car and blimp controls.

Will it work with other transport? Can we ride under water on a motorcycle, minibike and bicycle.
And what is the situation with the gyrocopter when it enters the water? Gyrocopter can fly underwater or simply be destroyed (destruction is logical)?
Right now you can ride underwater on every vehicle, it just gets pretty slow. Gyrocopter might stay the same, since it does have wheels, so you could drive it out, it just can't leave the ground until you get out of the water (and build up some speed).

so as faatal is having fun making gyrocopter, is it actually going into a17 or hes just showoff what he can do? im hoping its going to be left in the code so people can mod it in same as bandits
While it is fun, I am making air vehicles with the intention of releasing to the world. Hopefully A17 or A18, but it depends if there are technical or game play issues, which delay or cancel these features.

I hope underwater vehicle travel <shudder> is at least going to be slow as hell.
Well, it is slow enough to annoy me, which is a consequence of submerging my vehicle, but not so slow as disassembling or towing out, which would really annoy me. Fair I think.

Don't need to know the exact lines, just need rough approximation. If the base game has 100 mb of binary code and someone releases a mod that contains 1mb of code changes then you know they haven't touched roughly 99% of it. Just like Day Z changed somewhere around 1% of arma's base code and re-used 99% of it.
Ask any programmer and they will tell you its far easier to modify someone elses program then it is to develop a program from scratch.

That's because MM isn't one of the programmers nor has he ever said he was. He leads the development team and is more of a graphics and design person. He isn't doing a lot of the coding as people think of it.
I think it is important to remember that first and foremost we are ALL fans of the game. So arguing is kind of silly, especially about this. Pimps own all the code. No matter what our modders do, including myself, we are using and building off their own base code. WITHOUT that code we may as well be making Hold Your Own.

Things like this have happened in other titles as well. Difference is in most of those communities modders see it as an honor if their mods are included (think Unturned and their maps) in the base game.

All that said, I hope Joel takes his time with the video. Too many want to pick them apart and criticize every aspect of them. I would rather he shows off what is ready for us than have him rush out a video just appease our desires. I want a video as much as everyone else, but I am also willing to wait so that what I see is kind of what I get and it doesn't go through a hundred changes.

Is it possible that you can get Gyrocopters to "float" on water surfaces? Or would that have to wait until if (when) a water rework comes into play.

Vehicles already check if they are in water, so it just comes down to what does the vehicle do. Keeping it from entering the water and floating would not be hard, which is what boats will eventually do. I'll have to try that.

Nice! :thumb:

This is just for my own curiosity and would be an extreme example but couldn't a file be modified (even heavily) and still be the same size. I know if it was it probably wouldn't work in the game but the size thing wouldn't work for that then would it?

A better example is if I took the items.xml file and changed every stack size...10>99, 500>999, 6000>9999 etc, wouldn't the file size remain the same? Now that I mentioned it would doing something like that move the game to the modded server list?

Don't worry about the gyro-copters, I have one or two mods in mind:

Met the Zombie pacifier mod! View attachment 23966 Its not cheating if everyone is pacified!
How many mechanical parts would I need to make that? 8? 10? 12?

We also need chewing gum added to game so it can be repaired and tomahawk missiles can be added.

Yeah but if you had 100 mb of files and only changed files that added up to 1mb then you still only changed 1mb of files. There isn't really a way to tell how MUCH they changed in those 1mb of files so the actual changes could be far less or they could be extreme in your example.

Great job on the Gyro faatal. I loved driving that around FarCry 4. So many fun things to do that distracted me from the game.

Please do not make the complex and backwards controls that GTAV has. I have to rebind my keys every time I switch from helicopter to plane because one button is designated to the air vehicle engine speed. So W can be forward in a plane and lift up in a helicopter. I hate playing air missions in GTAV.

I would like to see something like this;

E (activate) = Get in, get out

W = accelerate forward for planes, Pitch forward for Helicopter

S = decelerate for planes, Pitch backwards for Helicopter

A or D + W = Yaw

A or D only = Roll

(Jump) and (Crouch) = Pitch for planes, Up/Down for helicopters

Then maybe a button (right mouse?) to hold for plane stabilization or to hover heli, hold with A or D to turn helicopter.

faatal, I look forward to the gyro and hope makes it in sooner than later. Just so it doesn't become an exploit on horde night, Guppy made a suggestion for keeping the blimp in range of cop vomit that would work here, too. It should also be the prime target for kamikaze vultures.

Is there a chance it can also be given a maximum world elevation so some mountain ranges and buildings are an obstacle?

Faatal, you want to say that the gyrocopter is going on the road at a certain speed to take off? Gyrocopter can not take off vertically?

The top rotary is not powered. It moves from velocity so taking off from a standstill seems impossible. A runway of some sort will be necessary it sounds like.

Gyrocopters don't have power to the "helicopter blades", they provide lift like airplane wings. There's a pusher motor to give it flight speed so you will need a short runway. If power does go out to the pusher motor, the blades can auto-gyrate to give you some controll when crashing.

It is actually a gyrocopter. They fly more like an airplane. The top rotor is not powered. It spins by forward motion, which the pusher prop provides.
Technically, that would be Autogyro not a Gyrocopter. All though folks have been using the gyro term as slang for push propeller Autogyro.

Those don't hover as someone else mentions, hope the non-hovering minimum airspeed requirement gets modeled in the game if this goes live.

Wasn't really familiar with these, was interesting reading about them in real life. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autogyro

Sounds like they are actually easy(relative) to fly.

The top screw should rotate or not?
