Care to elaborate? I assumed the Team knew how awful the Ai is and were working on a fix. Maybe they aren't aware? Understandable as everyone has been focusing their discussion efforts on other things.
The AI is terrible. The pathing alone can be exploited and circumvented so easily that it takes away the magic and excitement of seeing new art or models or POIs. When you can stand off in the distance an effortlessly watch a zombie jog three laps around a small tree there's an issue, and its close to being a game breaking one at this point.
There was alot of hope that the WIP breadcrumb system would help with this issue. Hopefully work is still planned for this improvement. On the bright side there has at least been some improvements. Back in the day you could lay pole blocks flat on the ground and watch entities "Here we go round the mulberry bush" all day. Lol

Woah !! Wait a minute....AI is broken?

You mean the breakdancing zombies aren't coded in ? Or the horde walking past you practically waving at you isn't meant to be there....hmmm...who knew?

We know AI has problems. I said maybe, because it has been passed to me to improve for A17, but I make no assumptions on how much better I can make it before A17 ships. Hopefully I will fix all the obvious issues.

We will complain about every single not fixed AI problem... a lot... but in our heards we are happy with each litte step to a better AI ^^ go get them ^^

He should have said "computer game" instead of "game" to avoid your comment. But may I ask where footnail cleaning is defined as action in D&D?
Where? In the DM's brain, a few seconds after the player announces his/her intent to do it. :)

...Because there always will be closed containers that have guaranteed loot now (if you are looking from outside through a window or from the door)....
Are you just assuming that, since there will be open containers that are guaranteed empty, the inverse will be true?

When it comes to the cupboards and containers being open to show they have no loot, i like that idea since it means that looting a building will be that much faster to move on your way, better time management in my opinion, but they only showed the cupboards, does anyone think they will do the same with gun safes, fridges, and maybe have no pill bottles on the shelves at the pop n pills that are empty? Either way i am looking forward to seeing how this affects my gameplay.
I hope so! Because the thing is, with just one state for each container, it's hard to have balanced quantities of loot while keeping the points of interest looking believable. What's good for world building may not be good for level design, and vice versa.

Every kitchen is going to have a half dozen or more cabinets. Every library requires a lot of bookshelves. But there are only so many books in the game, and you only need so many jars and so much canned food. So there's this disconnect where you have this idea to use 20 of this type of block, but you don't want to make the gameplay too repetitious, you don't want to make this building twice as valuable as the next, you don't want every house to have a gun safe, and so on. I see empty containers as a way to meet the needs of both the art and design.

I'll resist the urge to point out what those obvious issues are, and simply say we're all rooting for you with great enthusiasm! :cheer2:

You got that all on point Crater Creator, its going to be amazing, one thing i hope comes as an option was the broken breadcrumbs, i got a type of thrill from zombies following me across the map to my base, it gave me more of a horror feel, that they will follow me unless I kill them, I would love a limitless tracking option that can be turned on, imagine running through a town, not caring about the zombies that you dont kill, only to have them come to your doorstep later, that would be intense, what I would love to see next with new POI creations is possibly a new skyscraper or even a new or reworked military base with functioning turrets that we have to disable them or a generator to get inside of, all the loot to be wrenched would be amazing, im still hoping for like a power ratchet for faster taking apart of electronics haha, hey faatal, would it be possible down the road to add a faster means of ripping apart electronics and cars much like how the auger gives you faster mining and higher yield of resources?

Why does MM post pictures on the development of the game on Twitter, but not on the official forum? Mind-boggling, this lack of communication.

Maybe. Something on my list to look at.
Lol. What. The. Actual.

So you're telling us that AI changes were not even being looked at until this point? What happened to the A17 = bandits/AI update?

There goes my hope.

Twitter reaches more users and social awareness I am sure. As someone who distributes info on my mod and had a forum for 2 years, i can say i can reach a much broader audience all at once on Discord. And people now a days want ease of access and direct communication. Something that has been lacking here anyway.

Forums are kind of archaic now. You have to slog through hundreds of off topic ramblings and memes. For a dev looking to get quick info and reach an audience directly Twitter/Discord/Facebook just makes better business sense.

No matter HOW that makes us feel in here.

Yeah I understand why he would post it on Twitter. That just makes sense, as he wants to reach as big a audience as possible. But I'm just curious as to why it's only being posted on there, and not here too.

I mean. |We hardly have any dev communication with him as it is (besides the 'here's a new video'-message every once in a while), but this further undermines his new approach.

Following Joel on twitter and tumblr for a coulpe of years now I can tell this posts are rare. Most of them (90%) he shares here , like the videos and previews. Maybe he is focused on its work and kind of keep away from here to avoid the storm of questions and the time it takes to read all stuff.

Everyone wanna talk with him i know, we all have questions. Personally I just follow the flow of the pimps and admire patietnly their work.

Is AI survivors, raiders, and traveling merchants still happening or were they canned or pushed to a later alpha build?
There are bandit models, merchants are a WIP and they are gonna be in when proper AI is made. Before that its just pointless. But when, it is a forbidden question.

Poor faatal... Did he really get the job of improving the zombie AI single handed?

If so, what are the chances it will be fixed for A17?

Reading this forum, you definitely notice that this is not he's only job...

Oh well, its still gonna be fun with the new vehicles, graphics improments and quests!

I imagine prior to fixing the abhorrent AI, stealth would need to be be fixed, and seeing as though it seems on track for A17, its reason enough to believe that it'll be looked at in the (hopefully not so far) future

I believe Fun pimps wouldn't have given Faatal the job of AI if he cannot finish it on "time" they envision. And obviously other parts he was working were either shifted to other developer or were finish already.
