Those books sound amazing! The map that I was playing on before had 2 crack a book skyscrapers next to each other, if books were like these new ones, I would never have changed maps.

Yep, definitely way better than the magazines, plus this will bring back a lot of the amazing feeling of looting and going "OMG look what I found!" that we lost with recipe books.

That sounds really cool, and any motivation to go out exploring is good in my book (har har).

It's interesting that the old magazines will be removed though. I do think they had potential, you just had to get rid of the requirement that you had to meet the level/attribute gate. Still, I won't really miss them.

Jokes apart, you need to provide a faster way of opening those gun safe and thing. Even at level 100 with quality level 6 steel pickaxe, it take something around 10-12 hits to open them up.

The only caves are the poi based ones.

The old caves from earlier alphas are not in the game currently, no idea if we will see them come back.

I would love to see caves come back.

 
Those books are a fabulous idea and one that will be greatly received.

We need a good reason to loot and this is a giant step towards that.

Doombringer101 --- I miss underground caves and caverns to, it was another environment to play in and go looting (which would present a greater danger challenge now, what with the enhanced AI)

I've already designed nearly 100 perk books. The old perk books will be deleted. The new perk books are not temporary perks, but permanent once you read them. There are collections of books, typically 5 to 8 volumes. Each volume is a unique perk but if you collect the entire set you get a special collector bonus perk that is more OP than the others.

Here are a couple sets:

Night Stalker Books

Night stalker Vol 1 Do 5% more sneak damage at night.

Night stalker Vol 2 Sneak 5% better at night.

Night stalker Vol 3 Knives do 5% more damage at night.

Night stalker Vol 4 Never encumbered at night.

Night stalker Vol 5 Bows do 5% more damage at night.

Night stalker Vol 6 Gain 5% more xp from sneak kills at night

Night Stalker Collection Perk Do an extra 50% sneak damage to sleeping victims at night.

Lucky looter Books

Lucky looter Vol 1 Find more dukes in loot

Lucky looter Vol 2 Find more ammo in loot

Lucky looter Vol 3 Find more brass in loot

Lucky looter Vol 4 Find more books in loot

Lucky looter Vol 5 Find more food in loot

Lucky looter Vol 6 Find more medical items in loot

In that case, Im hoping that TFP will drop another bookstore POI on the Navezgane map.

Really like the sound of the new skill books, much like how the old ones were. It's nice seeing them come back. :)

Just got to see this. Ok now THIS I am sold on. I like the idea of making bookstores important again, and all of these seem like perks you would WANT to seek out. Hopefully these can not be bought and only found, but even still modding.

So first news out of 18 and Im not going to lie this excites me.

filling the world with lots of different types of books is a very good move.

Small question : is experimental b20 going out of experimental quickly or not before quite a bit ?

This new settings are so darn good it stopped me from trying mods. I can't play these mods WITHOUT the new settings ! (i know i could mod it the way i want but having those close at hands saves a lot of time)

 
Why aren't there a bunch of books that just provide a temporary bonus to <whatever>?

We have the perk books which require you to search through your character sheet to make sure you have the prerequisite skill to get the specific perk bonus, assuming you're not getting a "death bonus" or getting attacked at the time.

We have the new perk books which provide a permanent bonus to <whatever> which likely means they're rare and can only be read once.

How about a bunch of temporary bonuses from books that are consumed on reading? That would seem a good way to check whether any of the bonuses are overpowered.

I know the great Mole like his ramp-it-up / cut-it-back system but there's a lot of middle-ground being leapt over on the way.
