PC Defensive value of POIs

Doesn't that bother you if the defense disappears because you do a quest there? Or don't you make any major modifications so it's ready to go again?

Nah, all we ever did was put a ring of wooden bars around the top floor and then cut out a chunk of the roof and put bars in that too, so we could shoot them as they made their way up. That building just has amazing SI for some reason. Missing 90% of it, it never fell down!

 
I go for the 2 story brick buildings later on and 2 story houses early in game for horde nights. Like previously stated get rid of stairs and ladders so they cant get up to 2nd floor, then I cut out holes in the center of room floors (2x2). I can then shoot arrows at them with almost impunity. This way my base never needs repairs or elaborate defenses from zeds ever.

 
I've never seen anyone convert the Crack a Book skyscraper into a Horde base. Do you have pictures of it?

No, but there isn't much to see. It's just a wood stairway up along the outside to the top. A wall along one top edge to funnel them along the edge. Barbed wire to slow them down. A cage setup for me at then end of the walkway with a trapdoor drawbridge.

I've restarted so I'll take a pic when I get setup again.

oooh. That just gave me an idea.... a walkway of drawbridges along the edge of a bigger skyscraper... wait until they fill up with zombies and raise them all.

 
Just imagined a very fun scenario...

Zombies funneling up ramps in a skyscraper (or its edges) with a need to cross over a big chasm through a walkway. The player standing at the end with a pickaxe and destroying the one block that supported the walkway from his side and watch as it crumbles down with most of the horde...

 
I still like to build a rooftop Base over the Hair Dresser Salon. It is a 2 story, partial cobblestone, partial concrete building with just a single ground floor so there is no way for Zeds to get to you from the inside. Easy upgradable, easy defendable and usually located in areas with other Commerce close by (Popin, Shamway, Workin stiffs)

Good one, I did a few builds in the Strip Club for similar reason... also it is a strip club.
