The Crucible hunt has been going on in my area for ages. You can level up the merchant to get it earlier. But depending on how you play, it usually appears between days 15 and 35. Of course, it also depends on your playstyle, day length, and so on.

Now a friend told me he ALWAYS gets the Crucible on the very first day. That can't be true, can it? That's not possible, is it? Even with 120-minute days, I think it's unlikely he'll get it from the merchant by the evening. He also sent me a screenshot from the first day at 7:45 AM in game stage 1, and the merchant is offering him a Crucible. Is this a bug? Can this happen? Or is the screenshot faked, or is the timer switched?

It's quite often there in the first reset of the trader. From there the issue is gathering enough money for it, with the base price being 15k. Simply gathering a few stacks of flowers from the map is enough to earn that much, boosted by candies and better barter. "On first day", with 60 min days sounds quite fast; possibly impossible. But you can always afford it during the first reset (on d3), if you so choose.

I think of it as a troll on the part of the developers that it can be in stock on Day 1. Makes it easier to swallow.

I have found crucibles in the trader forge during V1 pretty early already, but never on day one. I mean if you have 120min days, do nothing else but pick flowers and loot cars and trash and then sell everything it might be possible. Barely and with a lot of luck. But why would someone do that? No need for a crucible that early.

It has no TraderStageTemplate set on the item, so it can show up at any time I would think. It's in the rareTools group which is used in the traderGeneral group that all traders have, plus they all have an entry of the rareTools group on its own as well. So while a bit rare they can have it at any time. I know it is expensive and obviously you need the forge and mats to make use of it, but it's a bit odd to me they never but a TraderStageTemplate on it to limit it. I know I added one to it in my mod.

Honestly, perception mastery makes it less useful than it used to be (I've had 700-800 steel from that by day 14) but it's still a nice to have. Wouldn't worry about getting it before the first trader reset, though.

I can only see getting it on the first day if you're very very very lucky when you loot a workstation. there is no way anybody can get it consistently in the first day without using some sort cheat.

You'll learn how to make crucibles by looting for its head mags but the traders will generally have one for sale before you get the skill.

With the mastery it includes cars, shopping carts and safes. I assume shopping carts are Everywhere, and if you spec Salvage, you're doing it cuz you like to grab cars anyway.

Is that with creative mode turned on? Only way I can see him getting a crucible right off the bat like that.

Yeah, I scrap most cars I see. I can't remember the last time I actually used oil shale to make gas, I usually have thousands of it in a chest somewhere.
