Crashes before fully launching after installing new video card

Hello,

I am experiencing a crash every time I attempt to start 7 Days to Die from the Steam Launcher. The EAC starts and loads, then 7DtD starts, but immediately crashes. I installed a new video card today (Geforce GT 1030) and updated the drivers. I was using onboard graphics prior to this.

I'm very new to installing hardware, so there's a definite possibility that I have done something wrong ... but I can't seem to find the issue so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 
Crashing on startup after installoing new video card

I am experiencing a crash as soon as I try to start the game from Steam. The window for EAC starts and loads, then it starts to load the game and crashes before opening a window. I installed a new video card today (GeForce GT 1030) and the relevant drivers. I was using on board graphics prior to this without issues.

I'm very new to installing hardware on in a PC, so there could certainly be something that I missed, though other games seem to be working fine.

Please let me know if you need any more information!

 
After installing the new video card, perform a clean installation of the video drivers from Nvidia, then re-run the DirectX installer.

You want to run the Clean installation option to get rid of remnants from the previous hardware, and you want to refresh Directx because that's another common issue.

After that's all done, restart the client and try again.

you have checked to make sure there is enough wattage going to the card on the 12v rails havent you?

chances are you might not have a psu thats made for a high end card

So, I came home and attempted this fix. First, I learned that I have DirectX 12 from Windows 10. This means that the DirectX Installer won't reinstall it, since the installer only works up to DirectX 9. However, it was suggested that I run it regardless as apparently that could patch up files. I ran the installer and restarted my PC. The game still won't launch after the EAC loads or if I skip EAC.

I then read further and apparently DirectX12 is updated via Windows Updates. I checked my updates and saw that I needed a Windows Update, so I updated, restarted my PC, and tried again. Same issue - still won't launch.

Next steps or ideas?

Again, I'm no PC enthusiast, so I followed the information of other people with my PC. This card was recommended and used by other User's with my same PC and setup. I also installed a Power Supply as that was suggested in addition to the card. I did the speccy thing and posted it above if that helps explain anything?

I have another stick of 8gb memory coming to install - should I hold of installing that?

And one last note - I'm having no issues with any other games. All other games I have are running better than ever, really seeing a huge improvement. I realize all games are different, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

 
UPDATE: So, I decided to try some different settings on the launcher. I went down to the dropdown menu that had DirectX 11 listed. I then changed it to GLCore and the game loaded normally. I was able to create a world and log in. I also was able to update the video settings and achieved much better framerate and quality.

The question I have now is, should I worry about using DirectX? Is there an issue of compatibility between DirectX 11 & 12?

Your probably better for now using GLCore although DX11 Is fine for most cards. The GLCore favours better with Nvida.

also the Direct X files included with your GFX Version may be missing some compatibility files in this case as you updated from on-board

Windows will Auto Check your Directx runtimes package and download/repair any missing files

When Installing or updating System Or Hardware A restart is recommended this will ensure everything is saved as a fresh snapshot.
