PC Constant Stream of Zombies?

I just installed a17 tonight after watching a few streams and being interested in the changes. After dying pretty quickly on normal, I turned the difficulty down to easy just to run around Navezgane for a bit.

First POI (house in the woods) had only 1 zombie, and after I cleared it out, I moved on. Walked across a bridge and found a Working Stiff's. There were a handful of zombies outside the building so I cleared them out, then went in to clear out the POI. Killed a couple, then a few wandered in from outside. Killed them, then moved on to another sleeper, and as I killed him two more zombies walk in. Kill them and a couple more zombies walk in. Go find two more sleepers and as I'm killing them, two more walk in. Finally kill all of those and three more zombies walk in from outside. At that point I turned off the game because it's just no fun not being able to loot the POI at all because there's a constant stream of zombies spawning just outside and finding me inside. It was super frustrating and makes me completely uninterested in playing any more.

I haven't seen this sort of thing happen on any of the streams I watched this weekend. Has something like this happened to anyone else? Is it normal, or some new type of zombie behavior that they can hear from so far away that I can't see them outside, but after a minute of killing zombies inside they all show up?

There are wandering hordes but they don't typically see you. Noise does attract nearby zeds, maybe consider clearing the outdoor area before going inside. The number of "outside" zombies is identical to a16, but the AI actually works now, so your just seeing what was always there before but they work.

I cleared the house of three zombies as I entered it. I got to the top floor and tried to leave and found that 5 sleeper zombies spawned behind me. Two more were waiting outside.

Yeah definitely noticed this.

They are attracted to the player a lot more now.

No more walking through everything, bored because nothing heads my way.

Even the simplest loot run takes a bit of tactics now.

Make any little noise and .... here they come!!!

AWESOME!

My kind of game!

I almost guarantee you woke up zombies that were on the roof and they dropped over the edge. Workin stiff had been that way in A16 as well.

I don't remember what streamer had this, but someone went up the roof and there were like 4 or 5 sleepers (looking for a safe place to stay for a few minutes). Surely inside had more zombies and count the surrounding ones.

Just seen Games4Kickz get surprised during the night on his 6th episode and after he managed to get around the zombies, he had a few minutes killing the incoming ones that heard him all around. And no, he didn't crouch so most likely made every zombie in the vicinity "notice" him.

I mostly try to sneak around wherever i walk exploring (speed isn't much slower than regular walk/run). While fighting i don't sneak of course, but after the kill go back to it. As much as i have played (and it wasn't much yet) i haven't had a big problem. Running (even crouched) raises sound levels, but hitting metal objects or doors raises the detection very high. Crouch (to see the indicator) and hit things around for yourself.

I agree there are too many zombies spawn in an POI. Ex. I was flying around in God mod and entered in the big Construction site shot some zeds and woke up everybody, and in a couple of minutes they COMPLETLY destroyed the POI, like demolish everything. Just imagine going to loot and they are down destroying support columns and everything is demolished around you. They need to adjust the numbers.

I have had some awesome battles.

In the forge house I took over I was either fighting or hiding for near 3 ingame days.

Made the 7 day horde seem a minor mild planned event.

In the first 6 days I died 3 times in situations that would never have occurred in A16.

Once 10 metres below ground, and they didn't dig, they pathed through my POI and down my tunnel.

Stealth is important now, if you hear zombies at night...be vewy vewy qwiet.

Edit: Loving it!

I was chased onto the roof of the Working Stiff (between the bridges) by a bear, there were four zombies up there jumped me before I could get off the ladder. I ran to the front of the roof and turned to fight just to see a stream of zombies pouring onto the roof, I must have killed about forty of them before they stopped. I would have been stuffed if I hadn't been hoarding 9mm rounds. For day two, it could use a little tweaking.

I haven't seen this, I have definitely noticed that the zombies seem to notice you better. Towns have been difficult to clear but I have not had too much issue with it on normal settings. No where near 40 zombies however...

I had the the same experience when looting a Crack a book POI,

I entered the back room where there where two sleepers, as soon as i Stealth shot the first zombie with the bow A moma zombie started banging at the backdoor. So I went backside to clear the outside..

Went back in to stealth kill the other zombie, and two new zombies starts banging at the backdoor.. literally 30 sec from when i had cleared the backside and there where no zombies in view.

I was only walking outside the building and none of the sleepers woke from that.. .so a little bit strange.

I'll see if i can replicate it.

Found you have to be more diligent in your looting. Passing by buildings and not clearing them gets you swarmed later. Those z's wake up and come to find you. Digging z's is really interesting. Its not just ground they dig, but stairs, floors, roofs!

I accidently ran into a random horde near my base and it was almost 21pm. So I decided to make a bigger round that they lose line of sight that I can enter my base unseen before the night.

Unfortunately line of sight doesn't seem to matter. The entire horse ran after me like a guided missile on the shortest way. No chance for me to get inside my base. So I was killed.

I respawned and waited for the next morning just to hear, that a random dog horde was demolishing my base wall (I made the celltower west of the farm my first base and I didn't upgraded the wall at all). And the dogs just attacked the wall to kill me, Allthough they didn't saw me before.

Allthough I really love the update, i would be happy if I could outrun a horde at day and break line of sight making the horde disengage. I really had no chance to get into my base Allthough I ran almost 2km.

Up to this point i don't have a clue how the "Aggro" mechanics of the Zombies and animal works.

It does seem like the sleeper spawn in timer is set too fast. It seemed like I'd clear out the poi and they would poof in before I was done looting. I am pretty adamant about ensure the outside is clear before entering.

My new way is to make a ton of noise inside and bait them out with a friend or two. It makes dispatching zeds a lot easier

I ragequit my first game last night after a suit and a lumberjack ninja spawned on me in a house in the snow biome. I diligently cleared the whole perimeter before entering and checked every corner carefully. There's just nothing you can do when a corner that was empty ONE SECOND before suddenly has a zombie in it and another one spawns behind you.

Frustrating to say the least.

If i remeber correctly you could use decoys in A16.. or atleast it was in the xml.

Is that in A17? would be a great strategy, throwing stones or shooting arrows.

I'm pretty sure zombies are spawning when ever you make any noise. I was in the snow biome on navesgane I cleared all the zombies around the poi. Then I went inside and cleared out the inside was only 2 zombies inside was my first poi. As soon as I started breaking couches and stuff inside zombies came in and attacked me. I'm pretty sure the zombies actually spawned in response to my noise. Which it should not do that. It's okay if zombies that are still alive get attracted to noise and come in but should not spawn extra zombies.

I am a new player and only played 16 for about 20 days prior to 17. I killed a couple of sleepers in a house. Standing by the door I checked my 6 and spun back around to find 2 new had spawned in the room. They are indeed spawning to noise. Right now I am on day 3 and sitting crouched in my house due to a wondering hoard camping the outside... So much enjoyment reading forums during the night because I cant leave the house. I like the new UI but it makes the game very tedious and boring looking at the inventory for half an hour.

IMO, its not even just about balancing the amount of zombies. The right ammount is subjective.

But zombie spawn should be transparent to players, since zombies dont just appear out of air. Zombies should never spawn close to the player.

So, be it 10 or 100, the zombies must be in the zone when you arrive, not spawn when you are close. So until a player goes far from a POI, NOTHING should respawn there.

And if that makes it too easy, just increase the zombies already spawned there.
