PC Console to PC

I love this game, as I'm sure many of you do too! But I can't help but see all the content out there from gamers and how much better it is for PC. I'm not hating at all, it is an original PC game and I'm just glad I was able to find it on console.

My question is are there any console players out there that have tried it on PC and have they come back to console? Also if you are like myself and love your console "joy-pad" when you switched over was it complete with keyboard and mouse or did you stick with your console controller? I know I can't process all the buttons with keyboard and mouse.

Share your experiences between the two here!

Thanks in advanced

I have been playing both recently as I have different friends playing on different platforms. I find the console controls to be much easier, but this could just be based on the fact that I played on console for at least a month before playing on PC. I find myself doing a lot of accidental things on PC because it seems that almost every key you hit is mapped to something so if you hit any key on accident something is going to happen. What I really need to do is rekey the PC in a way that makes more sense to me and I think that would improve things greatly. I feel that learning the PC controls with result in a better way to play the game if you're willing to put in the time required to get proficient.

I rebound my keys first when I started playing.

w,a,s,d were movement keys naturally so they weren't changed.

Tab opens backpack-toolbelt.

Q is my run key.

E is still action key.

R is still reload.

V is my toggle crouch.

Spacebar is still jump.

With this configuration I can do most things I need to do without removing hands from keyboard or mouse.

There are some keys bound to other things...Map, player stats, etc but I can open them quicker by hitting tab and then mousing to the icon for them than having to look at keyboard (yes even after 20+ years I still have to sometimes look at my keyboard :p )

I feel you on still having to look at the keyboard, lol! I'm seriously considering the switch, but only because I think this game is WAY worth it. But I'll likely take my controller over with me  !

I played the PC version back when it first released until it began to become very buggy and laggy, which is when I changed over to console, if your switching make sure that your computer has high specs otherwise your gonna get nothing but lag

I played console first then got a pc around alpha 16. I normally play with a controller but still use the mouse in certain situations.

If anyone can run it on pc I’d recommend it for sure not the main game all that much but any of the mods. Ravenhurst is the best I’ve played so far. Definitely makes the progression the speed I think it should be.

I was honestly just thinking about this too ha, but for different reasons. Im curious how far behind the console version is from the PC version. Ive seen some of the videos for Alpha 17 and im curious when its being released for PC compared to when itll be released for console

From what I’ve read somewhere in the forums the console is on alpha 14.7 with some alpha 15 mixed in. I’m thinking console will get a content update whenever alpha 17 comes out.

That’s how it was with alpha 16. Plus for console to have the electric system they have to optimize it some. Because it lags on pc and my pc is upper mid tier. So I’m sure that the console version would struggle with it. Hopefully this theory is correct or we get something sooner. Bc I don’t think alpha 17 will come out for another month or two.

I recently went from console to PC and here is my experience.

When I first got my pc and started playing 7dtd, I was very tempted to play it with the controller, cause I had never played a pc game with the mouse and keyboard. But I was determined to learned to play with the mouse and keyboard, so I created a world and for two weeks I made myself play it for 30 minutes a day. It was a struggle and it was frustrating, but as each day when by, it became less and less frustrating. After the two weeks, I created another world where I started playing like I usually play 7dtd but with lower difficulty. By this time I already knew the keys, it would just be a matter of time for them to become second nature to me. I played this world for about 60 hours, before I created another world with higher difficulty. By this time I was ready to take on the challenge.

It took me about 70-80 hours to become a semi decent mouse and keyboard player. The first 7-15 hours did not feel like I was playing a game, it was very frustrating and I felt I was never going to learn it. But after that, I started paying more attention to the game and less attention to what keys to press. I was able to have fun and play the game.

My advise, Try to learned to play with the mouse and keyboard, the first 10-15 hours are going to be frustrating, but I promise is going to get a lot better. Also I should note, that you should adjust the keys to your liking. I moved all the keys around. asdw are used for movements, I moved them one over to sdfe, the "tab" is now Q. whatever you need to do to make the transition from controller to mouse and keyboard easier, do it.

After about 500+ hours of playing with the mouse and keyboard, I went back to play console. The controller now feels clunky and slow. I prefer to play with the mouse and keyboard over the controller. That's something I thought I would never say.

I have played both Console and PC versions. I had console first, bought the PC version and went back to console. Personally, I just prefer playing console. My long time friends play there, it's more convenient for me, and it's what I have been used to forever.

The PC version is obviously great. The graphics and performance are much better. The updates hit PC well before they come to console (assuming everything does even come to console). Playing with a keyboard and mouse (while frustrating to learn) is much better than using the controller for the game.

I just prefer sitting on the couch playing with my controller in hand. It's not as pretty, it doesn't have as many features, but it's home. The only time I play my PC version these days is if I'm travelling for work or on vacation. I wouldn't bring my PS4 with me, but I can easily bring my laptop with 7 days on it.

I too started on PS4 when the game launched on consoles was when I first was exposed to it. Being a "mostly" console gamer I never knew it existed b4 then. So naturally I played it for few months on console knowing that my laptop probably couldn't run it very well if at all. So I was content with PS4 version not to mention PC was still alpha 14.7 so I didn't think much about it. Met some good friends on PS4 version. Unfortunately, after awhile it got a lil stale and everyone quit playing it. I agree at times without some kind of objective or mission it gets boring. So I updated my laptop to a so called gaming laptop and bought it for PC. I do still play both occasionally but when I play the PC I use my Dualshock4 controller. Just can't get comfortable on a laptop's keyboard. I do love the more content and stuff on PC but truthfully I'd much rather the comfort of PS4. Hopefully soon consoles will get that "huge" update and start catching up to PC version. Tho I know we'll never have everything that PC does, consoles just lack the power to keep up.
