I feel like the whole point of concrete was like the risk that was required when you used it therefore the drying phase would have to be started a day in advance or else you’d be caught out on horde night

This was only true on your first base. After you learned your lesson the first time, you could just build your base before the horde. The biggest pain with wet concrete was having to stay in the chunk so that it would dry. It was really more of an annoyance than a contributor to tension. You can always simulate this by waiting until the last minute to build your base though.

to this. Nothing was more frustrating on upgrading your base than to realize that things didn't dry in time because you were away the entire time.

I work in highway construction and I can assure you that the USDOT does not consider unobserved concrete to be curing.
