Character reset to level 1 after power outage in 2.6 b14

Hello,

I am playing 7 Days to Die 2.6 (b14) on PC in a local single-player world.

My computer lost power unexpectedly while the game was running. After restarting the game, my world is still intact: my base, explored map and progress in the world remain.

However, my character has been reset to level 1. Before the power outage my character was around level 45.

I found the player files (.ttp, .bak and .meta) in the save folder, but I am not sure how to recover the original character.

Is there any way to restore the player data or recover the character from the backup files?

Thank you for any help.

Reproduction Steps
  1. Started 7 Days to Die version 2.6 (b14) on PC.
  2. Loaded my local single-player world.
  3. While playing, my computer lost power unexpectedly.
  4. Restarted the PC and launched the game again.
  5. Loaded the same world.
  6. The world, explored map and base remained intact.
  7. My character was reset to level 1 and lost previous progression (approximately level 45).

Hi Ale_GH,

In 7 Days to Die, player character data is typically stored separately from the world itself. To restore a character, you generally need the player's save files from a backup taken before the loss occurred. The default location for single player is:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\Saves\<WorldName>\<GameName>\Player

The .ttp files are named after the player's Steam ID and contain things such as:
  • Character level and XP
  • Perks and attributes
  • Inventory and equipment
  • Quest progress
  • Learned recipes and progression
  • Character stats
To restore a specific player:

Stop the game/server.
Create a backup of the current save in case anything goes wrong.
Navigate to the save's Player folder.
Locate the player's .ttp file. See note below!
Replace it with the version from your backup.
Start the game/server.

Note: Depending on the game version, you may also see accompanying files (such as map or metadata files) in the same save structure. If you're restoring from a backup, it's generally safest to restore the entire set of files associated with that player from the same backup timestamp rather than mixing files from different dates.

A few things to keep in mind:
  • Restoring only the player file may roll that character back to the state it was in when the backup was created.
  • If the world has changed significantly since the backup, there can occasionally be quest or progression inconsistencies.
  • If the player file is completely missing and no backup exists, recovery is usually not possible unless you use admin commands to access the creative menu. There are items in the developer portion of the menu that let you level to a certain point, or using the command giveselfxp with a number like 10000 or 20000 can level you a little at a time to get you back to where you were.
Cheers,

Dollie
