PC Challenge for the DEVs and everyone else.

Well the only perks I find a must is the ones that open up recipes and stamina. I'm not sure what freedom is to the point you do have to go down certain routes to play the game which has always been the case. Forge is a must, spikes, weapons, etc...Now they are just gated to draw out gameplay which I feel was much needed. For those that don't like gates the modlets can fix that.

I like how people keep saying there are perks that they must have. None of these perks are required to play the game. Your choice of perks does not invalidate other people's choices in perks. When you unlock a perk, it is expected that you will be able to use that perk. All perks are equally important and they should not be marginalized just because you personally would not choose them.

If the game is to be considered balanced, even in the slightest, then there should be an amount of time it can be played without using any of them. Carbonkid is trying to ascertain the state of early game balance by going for a certain amount of time without using any of the perks. If serious complications arise that would be a marker that some things need to be changed with the base state. It is just an experiment. It is one he believes the Devs should do also. So that way, they can decide if those base line mechanics are what they want in the default setting.

I wouldn't be surprised to see hunger, thirst, and stamina metrics relaxed somewhat based on what I have seen in my current game. I chose not to buy any perks until level 10. By that time alone, I was able to decide that those metrics might be a little harsh on the default game settings.

@ OP

As far as I know, as long as you don't use stamina, you don't need any sustenance. Ever. So you can live forever if you build a quick cobblestone horde ramp and park your ass in it.

Wow I never noticed that. I've died so many time due to starving while AFK in A16 that this is good news indeed!

So the challenge is how long can you survive without using ANY skill points?Let this be a reference of discussion on balancing in early game.

My firmest belief is that a LVL 1 character in this scenario should be able to survive for a long time. Maybe not by a comfortable life (thats what perks and skills are for) but at least survive.

Let the Challenge begin!
With this challenge, is reading the 30 minute skill books allowed?

I would say no. Since it enhances the characters base abilities. :)

EDIT:

After some thinking I would say maybe.!. It's fair game since it is in the hand of RNGods the same way Coffee and a working forge will affect the player.

Actually had to take a break from the challenge (stamina was killing me.

So I build a mod where leveling dosen't generate points. Magazine on the other hand gives permanent skill points.

And just for fun Packmule has a chance to drop when destroying bags.

Hmm, not sure i'll use them then, I found living off the land and master chef, and to be honest, I think they are the only ones you can really make use of.

Found running shoes which really helps with the stamina!

I'm tired and don't want to actually play A17. But I think it shouldnt be unreasonable to expect to survive right up until your first horde night as a fresh character. Thats with playing smart of course. Not raiding POI from day one.
Horde nights? The challenge was to survive. It didn't say a single word about keeping zombies on....
