PC Challenge for the DEVs and everyone else.

You're working towards being that crazy overpowered monster.
That is true. Gamestage is "supposed" to offset your increasingly powerful character. I'm not implying it always does for everyone, but that seems to be the goal.

We start out with a grown person that has been living in this world for a couple of years, by the looks of degeneration of the buildings. I would say at least 10 years. The character has probably has been living alone since there are no communities or other survivors except traders.

During this time the character got some basic skills on how to survive. Or that's at least what we think.
I'm just going to give a different spin on the startup.

Its been 3-10 years since everything went to heck.

The character has been living alone or with others in a bunker avoiding the apocalypse world.

The character was discovered by Noah's people (either because the character left the bunker or their bunker was breached).

Noah's people give that quick beginner's survival guide, then toss the player out into the world to see if you're worth having around and can survive this new world.

(To me, given the startup this fits more with the world I experience as the character).

Edit2: just saw the other thread about Boiled Eggs no longer require Chef perk; true, but still need a Cooking Pot, and that's RNG so... <slightly eveil grin> No Pot For You! :D
Yeah you can boil eggs now but not corn or baked potato.

The only food I can make my self is charred meat and boiled eggs.

And eggs uses glass jars.

Cooking pots are easy to find but the RNG on the forge is problematic right now. :)

They are, but also can be a real pain to find. I had a snow biome start in Nav map and no pot for me! till I ran all the way south to the burnt forest. All the 'easy' POIs I'd hit didn't have a pot. Now I know where there's a couple on the counters in large POs, that I usually wouldn't attempt till after ~day 14. But for kicks I tried on day 2 this start, and it was quite doable.

Hope you're having fun on you test run, looking forward to hearing how it went :)

The trick to that would be to avoid anything that gives you exp.

-Airdrops every day, build a cheater base in the desert. yucka juice for water airdrop for food... win! :)

And there are times when pushing exp is not a good idea. Some of the strong POI's have "back doors" to the good loot, use them until you feel strong then push exp again.

Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of seeing how balanced the game is for a lvl 1 character?

I play with standard settings. But the lack of food that can be cooked at this lvl will force me to use the trader more than i normally would.

Day 4 now and i found about 10 cooking pots. Burnt forest those corner buildings have a good drop rate. But still no forge. Problem is traveling long distances.

The only other place i know where to find a forge is the little cabin with a cobble stone stair on the outside and a balcony.

Are there any other POI's with a forge?

Well ammo won't be a problem, if you loot poi's you will find more ammo than you need if you save it for horde night only. Other than maybe shotgun for oh crap moments. If you get a sledgehammer your golden for melee, if you find a wrench, you can get 20 forged iron out of the destroyed workbenches to keep your iron stuff repaired. You'd be stuck pretty much buying steel off the trader for 100/each or so, but then again not like you can build anything with it as you have no perks, at most you can repair steel tools you've found.

Speaking of tools, they really need to make the wrench made with forged iron, especally as it doesn't "seem" to be perk locked at all. I might be wrong though.

how long can you survive without using ANY skill points?
On insane

Allways run

Zero loot

....

Forever !

At least after you survived long enough to make a minibase with Cheeseramp and a garden.

If this make fun is a other topic, and the real reason why at least i dont like the startgame.

The Difficulty is the same but the gamepace you need to play the game is obnoxious.

Lets postulate that TFP fixes AI so that the cheeseramp doesn't work reliably anymore and you don't find new "AI exploits" that work that reliably anymore. Lets not argue if that is possible ("they never could" does not work as a proof), just assume it.

Would you like it?

some traders of course have them, I think the odd pass'n'gas has them too. it's random as to what is in the back.

What do you need it for?

If forged iron, take apart broken workbenches and chem stations, or solar arrays. You get a healthy amount from them.

Mainly for glass jars. Food is scares on lvl 1. You can only cook grilled meat and boiled eggs, but the eggs need glass jars and you don't get them back. And for every 4 meat I eat i need a jar of water.

If I loot buildings i will find jars but that also means raising my XP wich will give me higher GS.

So as little Zombie killing as possible is what I think the best way forward.

Also my trader is 1k in to a snow biom. And with low stamina that might become a problem.

By the way @Roland

Didn't you say you liked slow pace early game. You should try it. Would like to hear what your opinion is.

I, ......

I think its complete nonsense to say "we want no safe spots in the game"

Currently i play 12HRunDays 12H Walk nights and died allready more than the last 3000 Hours.

My answer was aimed at the Startpost that tried to make a relation between Difficulty and tedious gameplay.

There is no Difficulty to make a break all 4 swings to wait for Stamina, run the same route 4 times to transport each time 8 stacks of loot or use a razor blade to scarify your helmet.

Its not difficult , its only painfull and pathetic.

If they fix the ai i guess i spend some days to find a new way to build and survive, but finally it doesnt matter. I allready cant play on foreign servers, so edit the vanilla game more in that direction will change not much for me.

I can kind of see your point. I know I don't see it as much of a serious issue as many others do but I will say if they could find a way that I can have a lot more stamina and still make progression satisfying in another way I'd be all for it. Is stamina drain and inventory limits really the only way new players can be challenged?

We know they have heard the complaints so there will be changes to Stamina & Perks for sure so I bet it will all work out in the end and get balanced.

I think we are heading in the wrong direction in this game when you look at the survival aspect. It tends to focus more on Combat than self-preservation. And Self preservation IS survival.

"Self preservation is essentially the process of an organism preventing itself from being harmed or killed and is considered a basic instinct in most organisms. Most call it a "survival instinct""

What I think TFP needs to do is to sit down and think WHAT Self preservation is in this game and HOW the players can achieve it.

I truly believe that a LVL 1 character should be comfortable and enjoyable to play.

And especially when devs claims that no perks are mandatory and you are free to play the way you want.

Well that's why I did this challenge to see if the base character is balanced enough that you can truly choose your own path without some aspects being too punishing.

You can't discount Zombies and other bad things when it comes to Self preservation in a Zombie Apocalypse setting and that makes combat hard to avoid. Seems to me the only place a player should be disconnected from the ever present threat of zombies is in Creative Mode where you can play around safely but not everyone will see it like that I can understand. Just offering my perspective on your issue.

If there is no present threat there is no need for self preservation or "survival instincts"

Creative mode isnt survival mode, hence its name. :)
