I can't open chests out of nowhere that I made and passcode locked. My friend can enter the passcode I entered and get in perfectly fine, and I can't access his unlocked chests, the forge, or the workbench.

Did someone break a chest while you were in it if so it seems to block you and you have to exit and Come Back inn
I was having a similar issue some time ago - for me, I would start the session being able to access everything, then at some point (could be an hour, could be several - it was never the same), I would suddenly be unable to access my chests, forge, campfire, workbench, ect. I couldn't loot anything either, though I could still open doors and the drawbridge so I know it wasn't the button that was faulty.
To fix it, we had to shut down our session and clear cache. When I loaded back in, it worked fine. It hasn't been an issue for me in ages though.

It's a desync issue. I get them on PC when trying to play on my sub server. Since you are in multiplayer, if your net is lagging for whatever reason, it won't allow you to open any loot container. Best thing to do it exit and do a reset. Check your connection too because they can get laggy sometimes.
