Cannot invite friends to game

I'm not sure what changed, I am completely baffeled by this one. 

When in game, press Esc., Invite Friends, It is (NOT Gyeyed out)

  it just makes a dong sound, and it does not bring up my friends list.

Any Ideas?

I have thousands of hours in this game and never tried this option, not even once.

Now I did and got the same effect of no effect.

Yeah I only use the Steam option to invite friends and have never used the game option so have no idea of its functionality.

No, I am not set to invisible, that was my first thought.

Tried to uninstall the game and all the game folders on my drive, but when I reinstalled the game, all the save game options and settings returned?

Not sure where all that info is stored.

Still having the same issue, just a bong sound and nothing after.
