Can we get armor sets or loadouts?

Since the change with the armor system and having different boosts from multiple different armors I find myself constantly needing to switch out armors for different tasks. Could we maybe get a loadout system so we can switch between gear more easily?

I'm sort of like that too. I don't wear a complete farmer's outfit when harvest my farm, the hat and the torso. Similar with salvaging.

Did you mean farmer boots and torso? The hat boosts finding seeds in loot while the boots increase the chance of harvesting extra seeds.

Yeah that's it. The hat just helps you loot more. I wear the farmer boots and torso when I'm harvesting.
I only wear the salvage gloves when I'm salvaging.

I seem to remember the devs discussing a loadout system. Kinda like Rusts lockers, where you build a load out in the locker, walk up and equip it and everything comes on at the same time. I have a scavenging set and a horde night set, and it's a good 3min to switch armor and move all the mods. Having a single click would be SO COOL.

There was a mod that used the armor racks for that purpose. Not sure if it supports 3.0.

Other than the farming outfit and farming boots for crop harvests, I never change armor I just live with it.

Assess the time used to switch armor around vs the extra resources gathered...

Its kind of ironic that one of the reasons they did away with the old clothing system is because they didn't like having to keep changing clothes when you move from biome to biome.... and instead we get a system where its beneficial to keep changing armor from situation to situation.

Funny thing about it is that I don't normally bother. I usually find plenty of ore so mining set isn't important, plenty of seeds with even just 1 point in LotL so farming isn't important, plenty of magazines (except armor) so nerd isn't important except for armor, etc. It's not normal for me to swap anything.

That doesn't mean others don't swap either. It's just interesting that it's never been an issue for me even though I see many others who do swap constantly.

The old system was centered around choosing between light and heavy armor while mixing clothing and mods for temperature and stat bonuses. Many clothing items became "best" with little reason to experiment. Further the visual models and overlays of clothing and armor were pretty bad.

TFP have repeatedly indicated they want RPG-style character builds. Armor sets are one way of rewarding and supporting different playstyles alongside perks and books/magazines.

Has it improved the game? Meh, there are good and bad on both sides.

I personally dont like half of the armor bonuses and dont like that they mixed resource gaining bonuses with combat related bonuses as this promotes switching armor sets. If all the armor bonuses were combat related then players would be way less likely to switch often. it would also go a long way towards balancing the armor pieces and sets to make them all playable.

they could then incorporate the resouce gain bonuses into other items like perhaps mods that you put on tools to gain more wood / ore / crop / seed harvest so those were still available and not simply deleted from the game.

Yup, agreed on all points.... doesn't change the irony I see in the situation.

I find it a little ironic that you suggested the old system was retired because TFPs disliked the idea of changing armor, and then agreed that it was retired to introduce a system where players change armor.

;-)

Regardless, the new armor system is a much better visual representation and offers a little more depth and progression. The Magnitude system has also given mods room for progression. I suspect that the heat/cold biome effects also influence players opinions on old vs new armor systems.

Whether players prefer the old armor system, which was easier to min/max and arguably felt more "survival-focused", or the new RPG-style armor system with multiple bonuses, is ultimately a matter of personal preference. There certainly could be some more fine tuning.

They are all playable. What works for your particular play style is what is different. But don't forget that you can mix and match whatever you want and then use the cosmetic system to look like you are wearing whatever you want while getting the bonuses that you prefer.

There may have been more than one reason the old armor system was replaced as I seem to recall that it was mentioned by the devs that there was a clipping issue with the old clothing and armor system that they couldn't resolve. I can't remember though if it was mentioned on one of the dev streams a few years ago or if it was mentioned in the forums though, only that there was the clipping issue. I thought that made sense at the time, as I did notice at times issues with some of the clothing options shirts, coats and the armor pieces when some of the items you were wearing wouldn't show up, and other times they did. I'm frankly surprised that old system worked as well as it did, since you were adding layers of clothes, various coats or jackets and then the armor pieces. When they couldn't resolve the clipping issue, and I think they were thinking ahead for the finished product that they wanted a better-looking armor system.

I do miss the old system, but frankly with all of the different combinations of clothing for cold or warm climates plus armor pieces, I'm not sure if the old system was really any better than all of the different specialized armor combinations, we have today. I don't believe either system was perfect, but if they added some kind of loadout system like was mentioned, or some kind of outfit storage that was separate from our main backpack storage that it would be a good quality of life improvement, at least from my perspective. I don't like taking up extra backpack slots with extra armor pieces to be switched out for situational use. If they can also add the ability to add dyes to the armor pieces, I think that would also appease some folks that I see keep asking for.
