PC Building tools.

Basically just 2 questions:

Why is upgrading blocks with a stone axe/wrench/hammer so much slower now?

And with the new philosophy of "Get a perk to improve it!" – Where is my perk for speeding up upgrading/repairing?

It's a pretty heavy hit to building, imo – Especially building big in mid/end game. Only the nailgun is viable for big builds now unless you're some kind of masochist. I for one will not build more than I need to until I have a nailgun, which thankfully has not a too rare drop rate currently. Just kinda sad how 2 tiers of tools have become extremely undesirable to even obtain. (Yeah, I guess the wrench is good for ...wrenching stuff.)

Yeah I wouldn't mind a faster build perk.

Gate it with something late game like maybe level 200 or something.

You've got all your materials by then and are ready to make something cool.

Yup I'm with you.

Building is a bit slow and a perk for increasing it would really be great!

Agreed. Thank goodness I looted a nailgun early as anything else is just........................ awful...............mindnumbing.............annoying....horrible! :p

It was bad.

Nailguns exist and are the fastest for upgrading/building.

Anything lower than the nailgun is truly slow af garbage now, which just promotes the "get to the best stuff asap" mentality they're supposedly trying to combat. Besides that: Anyone notice how you can't click and hold with the nailgun anymore when repairing more than one block? Every now and then it will just stop and you have to "re-click".

The only working mod I saw for a hammer was something about a weighted head ...increasing damage? The only thing I'm not really interested in in a hammer that's for building?

Hope they'll add some speeding up mods for the tools, if they don't give us a perk for it. But I find it curious and annoying, that they have perks for pretty much every aspect of the game, just not building.

Are you on crack? Why on earth should any perk of that nature be locked to level 200...thats probably around 80+ hours of gameplay before a person can build and it not be a chore... whats the benifit of this? That they have to murder a bunch of zombies or dig a bunch of blocks dosent make any sort of difficulty or anything of any benefit other than 'i dont like to build so everyone should need to be level 200 before they can do it' or they can loot somthing day1 to make it a none-issue.

Perks are to provide us choices and options, unless you want to upgrade blocks faster than a snails pace, you are only allowed to choose that after you murder a million zombies.

Upgrade faster doesnt need to be a perk it needs to go back to being a reasonable speed based on tool, technically the claw hammer is an instant upgrade but in a17 we have this .5 sec cooldown between every action (new swing speed) that needs to be adressed by fixing the slow swing speed, not making peoppe grind 200 levels.

Better tools have considerably higher sound generation when upgrading (nailgun included here and having exceptionally high). This makes upgrades in the night when Zs swarm around your base a bit tough.

I was able to safely upgrade wooden blocks with a stone axe when Zs swarmed all over my base (not hitting blocks). Using nailgun generates similar sound levels as to jumping or falling down 1 block (specific stomping sound of hitting the floor), which gathers attention of nearby Zs. And yes, i managed to build and upgrade on my base with enemies growling around until morning came.

Maybe they could add that to the "Flurry of Blows" perk, which increases attack speed. Have it be able to increase attack speed and repair speed.

So what if someone wants yo build/mine quicker but never use melee? With your suggestion they are forced to take a melee perk (to max level no doubt) to do somthing completely unrelated.

I dont get why they slowed the animation, instead of making stuff take 3x longer.

It doesnt feel right at the minute. Just make a wood frame take 10 upgradehits, but go back to the old speed of the hammer.

I dont get why stuff needs to take 3 times longer to build, spending longer watching an upgrade meter fill up per block dosent add any fun to building anything.

I was fine with the balance around upgrade tools in a16, nobody really complained about it one way or the other (too fast or too slow).

If it aint broke, dont fix it.

Uhhhh...wasn't it always like this? Totally serious here.

I've always put off large scale building til I could scavenge a working nailgun.

Instead of yet another set of perks, what about if miner69er also increased build speed every level?

Same problem as above, building quicker and dealing more damage when swinging a pickaxe are two seperate things and shoving them where they dont belong muddies the alreadly broken system we have further.

Not really. Knowing best how to take something apart usually is tied to an idea of how it best goes together (like efficient sabotage - you need to know how the thing you are wrecking works) It depends how one views the skill, I don't see it as "you're better at swinging that pickaxe" so much as knowledge and organizational skills to be faster and more efficient.

Actually I guess the salvage skill would make more sense, since it's already repair tool based. I just don't want anymore perk lines, unless I'm getting more points per level!

System isn't broken at all. Just needs tweaking.

I don't care how they do it in the end. Perks, mods, whatever. I've given up on them making the skill/perk system make sense. Just make it work and make it work for every aspect of the game.

I just thought their whole philosophy went for "Stuff progresses as you level up and don't rush to end game so fast".

I'd love to start building early and growing my build over the course of the game, instead of living on a roof or in a crappy cave, until I found the top tier tools. I'd love to use early game materials more. Yeah, I know I "can still do that and just need to overcome the challenge of the changes", but this slowed animations challenge isn't enjoyable and effs with what once was a good flow. The only challenge it presents is finding more time to play the game.

Same goes for mining. But that at least has perks adressing it. Just that it's still to sloow at the top tier, imo. Balancing issue, ik.

Well I'd love to fight everything with an AK-47 all day every day (and especially at night) and it just never seems to be a viable option for me (maybe really really really really late game) because I find myself needing to conserve my 7.62mm, even when I am able to make my own. While I emphathise to a point with the "combat haters" there seems to be a lot of posts where I could replace 7.62mm with build/craft/mine/whatever and it sounds like about what I said right there.

And that's not saying I disagree with what you just said Kam, I too like to know where my permanent base is going to be on day 1 and start settling down but it's just not working like that lately. Whether the game should be adjusted or I should be adjusted I'm undecided.

He didnt say he wants a steel fort since early game. He even said the opposite:

"I'd love to start building early and growing my build over the course of the game, until I found the top tier tools. I'd love to use early game materials more."

Your AK-47 example is not good, you do get to fight with useful low level weapons. AK-47 would be comparable to steel defenses, while bow/crossbow/clubs to wood and cobblestone buildings. So no, you dont get to kill stuff with an AK-47 at lower levels, but you do it with low level weapons, same as he is asking for low level tools to be more useful, not to jump directly to steel.

and then complaining that the bow/crossbow/club is not an AK-47!

There, better?

And to be brutally honest, the AK-47 is disappointing now too, guns don't do enough damage.

So you are really happy with the this system because you like making choices, but you dont want any more options added or made available? :S
