build a society

Hello all,

I've been playing 7dtd since A9 (6180h hours played).
When you get to the mid to end game it gets boring because it's all about farming materials.
Until then you have enough to do to level up, build the base and explore everything.

In a word "society
You build a society in your own base and take responsibility for it.
From T4 onwards, the merchants offer rescue missions.
These consist of rescuing npc from buildings (e.g. from the roof) or positions (1200W/350N).
Walking speed such as Arlene to make it more exciting.
These npc consist of children, women and men and are brought to their own base by jeep with trailer or on foot if necessary.
To do this, you can give them orders, just like with the drone.
Follow, hide, hold position or "free".
With "Free", the npc can move freely in their own base and meet their needs.
Food, drink, ammunition, weapons, sleeping bags/sleeping places must be provided.
Suggestion: this could be done by painting areas and boxes.
Base border = white, social area floor = blue, combat area floor = red, etc.
There is a social area where everyone spends time during the day, sleeps at night and there are toilets. There is eating, drinking.
The men, if zombies approach, have to grab a gun and come to the designated areas and shoot at the zombies.
You are no longer really alone when you play alone and have to produce more food, ammunition and build weapons.
If there isn't enough food people starve or can't help defend.

With kind regards
Christof Michel

I wouldn't mind such a mechanic but it really wouldn't be the same game at that point.  Combined with unloaded chunks preventing things from happening there when you are away, it wouldn't really be a good option for this game, I think.  I do like that kind of thing in other games, though.

That's not a problem either. Also zombies remain when you leave the area and are set again when you enter the area again.
You simply freeze the area.
The game mechanics are already there and you finally have a reason to keep playing to keep your community alive.
That's how it would be "in real life". See Walking Dead.

You could also let the npc hunt, farm, cook clothes....
You can make a lot out of it I think ;)
And if some die in the process, well that makes a survival game :)

...while women do the cooking and cleaning, right?

Try NPC mod. You can hire people and let them stay at your base or follow you around. Not as customizable as you dream of in your post, but almost.

If all you are asking for is people to stand around or move around in an area and do nothing, yes.  But that's a pretty pointless mechanic.  Games that have a ton of generic NPCs who stand around (or walk around in an area) and really don't do anything or interact with you in any way are often complained about because they are so generic and useless.

If, on the other hand, you want something where people are actually living their lives there, then you can't just freeze them or they aren't really doing that.

The first really offers nothing other than a cosmetic "look, there are people here" thing to the game.  The other would offer an interesting environment for the game but would change the game into something else like I said.  Great for other games but not for this one.   The NPC mod will give you extra people if you really want them.

the npc mod only provides a partner and has nothing to do with my concern.
It is on the one hand to have for the later game objectives / missions if you already have everything and the appeal in a zombie apocalypse for a bunch of civilians to take responsibility.
If you do not want that, then you do not need to accept these missions ;)
