A few hopefully helpful comments:

Were removed because they were OP (especially when turned upside down) and they were problematic for zombies to move on. I.e. zombies "swimming" on them looked ridiculous and loot bags were often destroyed.

are still in the game.

Dead Rising optimized their game to have as many zombies as possible, TFP optimized their game to be fully changeable and destroyable, with voxels that put a lot more strain on the CPU, caches and data paths than other games. Both games have to pay a prize for that optimization. I am sure the dead rising developers could not change their game to voxels and still have masses of zombies. Likewise 7D2D is limited in its zombie count. If you have a fast modern CPU you can increase zombie count in the settings, but you will surely see FPS drop as a consequence.

The game already writes continuously to its savegame, one reason why a PC crash can often corrupt a savegame. Saves are also relatively big, so a backup of the save every 3 seconds would make the game stutter. A possible way might be to make backups of parts of the savegame or backups at the end of a session. Meanwhile, it is advisable to make backups after a playsession yourself.

Huh? Dedicated servers are available for years, since before I started playing the game. I have rented a server and play on it with 3 friends. Console players need to wait for crossplay to be enabled, then they should be able to log into (PC) servers as well

Do you mean more saves?  If so, there is a thread on that.

This is a fully 3D Voxel game, unlike Dead Rising.  Your console isn't capable of doing that. Even the high-end PC's aren't.

With more optimization, this can increase. However it will likely require more CPU processing than the console hardware is capable of.

I remember the old TellTale version did it about once every three minutes. The PC version is constantly reading and writing changes to the save files. I would assume the new console does this, but I don't have one to validate with.
What is your experience in what currently occurs?

This is something you would put a request for in Pimp Dreams. Take a look around first to see if someone has submitted it already. Then you can add your vote to the existing request.

This will come with cross-platform play. It is expected in Q4 2024.
