Base design planner app

Not sure if this is the right place for this hopefully it will find the correct area of not.

Any possibility of some kind of app dedicated to designing and planning a base. Having an app where we could build and save designs would be awesome. The building is one of my favorite features and It would be cool to be able to plan a base design for in game or simply for those like me that can't always be on the game itself to still design a base for later and share designs 

It would help people like me who play mostly on console and don't have access to the dev tools to quickly build or destroy blocks. Even if we could get the block destroyer SMG and nothing else would make creative on console 10x better.

 
I'm not sure if anyone will ever make an app for this game to design bases outside of the game.  But it is just as easy to do so for a game base as it is to make a floorplan for a house.  Get some graph paper and decide how many squares equal 1m and start drawing.  There are also many apps (including free ones) that allow drawing out floorplans.

It won't have all the blocks in the game, if course.  But if you are just planning, you don't need to get too specific on shapes.  If you have an app that has all the shapes, it will just double the work for you as you are essentially building the base in that app and then having to rebuild it in the game.  Besides, if you are using an app long enough to fully build a base, why not just be in the game?  😀

 
Its true it would just be cool to play around with designs. I was thinking more of the time factor. Even with dev tools it could take hours in-game where and app floor planer you could do it much quicker. But I understand it's unlikely and it is fun to just do it in game but ideas always come to me when I'm away lol

 
If there would be any change that would help me experimenting more with building, it would be a morphing block that adjust to fit seemless between the surrounding blocks. At times it takes forever to find the right block or it just does not seem to exist. Also the transition from removable building blocks to steel blocks in one go instead of the current wood/cobble/concrete/steel transition, or a pickup timer that gives you say 5 seconds to pick up a misplaced block.

The Prefab Editor comes with the game on PC. I'm not sure if that's a Console thing, or not.

What it would be missing was someway to for a player to convey their blueprint in game terms so they could build according to the plan. Maybe they could let you load up a Blueprint on the Workbench, set a marker in the world (like a landclaim block) and then by using a hammer (or nailgun) on the workbench it started to place blocks around the marker in accordance with the Blueprint.

There is no application and most likely there will never be. It is pointless.

If you enable the construction mode and disable the appearance of zombies, you can build anything without interference and costs. Also in the game there is a tool that destroys any block in 1 hit. So you can delete an incorrectly placed block in 1 click.

Not early game without disabling trophies/achievements by going creative. Early game is the moment it hurts the most if you have to destroy cement or steelblocks just due to a minor misplacement so it realy stops new players from experimenting. It would perfectly fits the spirit of the game since you can also undo scrapping- or crafting orders as long as the timer is running without loss of resources.

 
I never build with anything except for frame shapes (now called building blocks) that can be picked up.  It gives you freedom to easily experiment, and upgrading gives you a lot of experience and isn't difficult, especially once you get a hammer or nail gun.  Still, I would prefer an option to pick up any block you place within 5 seconds so you can build with the other blocks and not have to deal with breaking any mistakes.

Here is what I use.  Nothing fancy, but it does provide a top down view.  The above it 1 71 X 71 land claim, with the land claim block in dark brown in the center, and the 4 corners are shown in orange, and it even includes some extra around the edges.

This.

I always do the same. The only downside i can think of, is that sometimes you may need to do a little extra picking up and putting back down when you are happy with the design and need to upgrade the blocks (to get to blocks hidden by other blocks). That is a small price to pay though versus tearing down a whole lot of concrete/steel because you made a small mistake :)

Hasn't been updated for 7 years now, but if you're looking for something to do basic layouts with it'll still work.
