Im on day 42 and have plenty of eggs. You quickly move past bacon and eggs and use the eggs for far better foods like pies. I loot any birds nests I come across and do find some in kitchens I think. Feeding 2 people I do run out of eggs but by that point Im making stew and stuff that are better anyway.

Just raid a neighborhood of low tier PoIs in dense formation and you'll basically have all the food you could want. Especially worthwhile to get that damn cooking pot ASAP.

You forgot to add the last option "increase benefits of bacon and eggs".

Chowing on a steady diet of bacon and eggs in a 'no respawn' game can become quite a task at times.

putting points into master chef should increase your chances of finding them in bird nests too, more points into master chef boosts your odds of finding food in containers that have food tags is boosted across the board.

That's why you get eggs more often towards the middle of the game. I'll take that into account.

Does anyone put points into master chef anymore? Seems so useless these days.

I did, buut... a mining game, food drops are rare in the stone; making the meats last a little longer was a goal at start, and now I cba respeccing out of it (need the dukes still..).

FWIW I take an early point into Master Chef for magazines and cooking speed.  I also take an early point into LoTL for seed magazines and harvesting.

I have recently changed to targeting only one advanced food (Steak and Potatoes) and one advanced drink (Mineral Water, Blackstrap or Yucca Juice, based on RNG).  This means a little farming.  Hence, I can give up on egg collecting, pea collecting, seed collecting, and all the other food roadblocks.  I rarely if ever make any of the other advanced foods/drinks and just eat/drink them as I loot.

Feels find to me most of the time. I usually move on to other recipes using up whatever ingredients I've looted when I run out of eggs and bacon. Then Air Drops start dropping more food than I can use. I always spec some fortitude like I'm going to be farming a bunch but usually don't get much past setting up a farm before it feels uneeded.

Magazines for those aren't really a reason to put points into them.  Farming is only 20 magazines to max and you find them very quickly without points.  And although cooking is 100 IIRC, you find them constantly even without putting points in.  If you are limiting yourself to steak and potatoes, you don't even need a lot of them.  But the gathering is useful on its own.  Cooking time is okay, but is you start cooking before leaving to do something, the time doesn't matter.

If you stay at the base in multiplayer, it could be worth it.  But if you are out fighting, I think it is more useful to focus on fighting perks in the early game before worrying about those.

Fair comments.

I am not a min/maxer, a quest completer, just a bit of a contrarian.  In my many play throughs to date I have never fallen behind on fighting perks nor have I lamented "wasting" a point anywhere.  The machinations and self-recriminations some streamers go through, is good entertainment.

I don't think I have ever used the forgettin elixir, just happy to role play what the game gives me and accept the consequences of my own decisions.

Oh, I love the cooking, so master chef is actually one of those skills that I almost always max out.

You reduce cooking times, and you save a ton of ingredients, which might not seem to be much if you stay with boiled meat and simple stuff like that, but if you like to cook nice foods it makes a huge difference 💜

Also, I am always kind of the "cook" of the group when I play multiplayer, and in that case it is even more critical to save on ingredients and cook faster! Try to cook 30 spaghetti for a bunch of hungry looters and tell me if master chef is not useful hehehe 😋.

I invest. Initially 1 point, then, closer to level 100, I finish the skill. Increasing the cooking skill reduces the consumption of ingredients, which allows you to do less gardening.

Level 103 and I only have 4 cans of tomato paste, despite the fact that I collected all the canned food. I can't cook that much spaghetti even if I wanted to. I have to cook regular meat stew, 60 pieces at a time.

Are you playing on servers with other people?  I play solo so my food/drink is never an issue by day 3.  I loot/quest for about 5 days a week, the rest of the time is split between gather resources and hoard base work.  I usually put a point in living off the land, and a point into master chef early on.
