Back packs

Back packs would be a nice addition to the game, having different kinds or rarities ranging anywhere from 1 extra row to 6 extra rows. I can leave my base(empty inventory) go out hit 1 house and before i know it, my inventory is full and im having to make decisions on what to toss to make room for more important loot.

I like having to make decisions about what to carry and what to leave, but I recognize not everyone does.

That said, if the size of the character inventory (which I already consider to be a backpack) were configurable, then perhaps that would suffice? I mean, I believe mods already do this, but perhaps an option on the startup screens would be better.

Or, if we're going to say the character's inventory isn't already a backpack, then I'd think you'd want the normal character inventory to only be the tool belt (or maybe the tool belt plus any pocket mod slots), and once you found/crafted a backpack that you got the rest of it.

My main thing is about filling up our inventory so quickly, the only work around I have for it is placing storage boxes around the towns out of reach of the zombies and using them when I have to. Another thing that was on the first console edition and not on here that I've seen yet was on the minibikes, we could put a basket on it for extra storage space, something like that would be very helpful.

They removed having to add the basket. It just comes with built in storage now. I build outposts in the biomes so I have a safe location to drop off stuff until transferring back home. I mean I wouldn’t be upset if they expanded on player storage but don’t find it needed.

You'll quickly find that the space is enough as you progress.  Yes, when you're in the first days, it is limited.  However, as you progress, you'll get better and better vehicles, which each increase space from the previous vehicle (except gyro).  And although those don't go into the POI with you, they can still be placed within the POI radius so you can fill them up in the middle of a quest if you really need to.  You also can eventually buy or craft a drone and then, based on the drone's level, add up to 4 cargo mods to increase storage even more.  And that will follow you around a POI.  By the time you're into the game a ways, you'll have plenty of "mobile" inventory space - your inventory, drone inventory, vehicle inventory - to be able to get what you want and then unload back at your base.  Now, you might not be able to scrap an entire tier 5 without running out of space, but if you're just looting, you should have no trouble looting even 2-3 tier 5 POI with that amount of space before having to either choose what to keep or going back to your base to unload.  At least as long as you're stacking everything well and don't have only a partial stack of something in your drone and your vehicle and your inventory, when it could all fit into one stack.

With this in mind, it would not be good to increase backpack space even further because you already have a lot of space available through progression.  If you really want more, and are playing on PC, there are backpack mods that increase space.  But it really isn't a bad thing to have to choose what to keep or what to either throw away or come back to get later.  Besides, stuff you leave doesn't go away (unless it's in a dropped bag or pouch), so you can always return to pick it up later if you need to... as long as you don't reset the POI with a new quest, of course.

Now, I have started using a backpack mod due to using the Vehicle Madness mod that adds a lot of extra loot and so I need extra space to handle that.  But for vanilla, the available storage works well.

I do like the ideas of having different types of backpacks, like Abiotic Factor. But we really don't want the Fun Pimps to halt production and entirely redo another system, do we?

I never knew that the vehicles had storage already, on the first console edition, you had to add a basket on your minibike in order to have storage. Thank you for the heads up on that.

As a typical "gotta get'm all" hoarder I set up a storage box just outside the POI limit so it won't reset when starting a quest but it is still accesible from within the POI limit during the quest. No need to think if I realy need something while clearing out Z's, deal with that later. If the leftovers are realy worth it I come back later to collect.
I see the limits of inventory space but it is just part of the game and to me it is good as is.
