PC Armored Up drop rates

Armored Up magazines seem to be quite rare now in experimental. Armor used to be one of the first skills I'd max without any points in an armor skill, now it seems like it is going to be one of the last even with an armor skill.

So I have a question for the modding-inclined or whoever might know the game's mechanics under the hood.

If I invest a point in both Light Armor and Medium Armor, do the odds to find Armored Up magazines increase twice, or does it only go by whichever skill is highest?

Simple answer highest, but probability of finding magazines is complicated. I can explain the mechanics behind the hood:

Each magazine at start has a probability of 1 to find (default unless the container assigns them a specific loot probability like high or low). So in a container where any magazine is possible, you have an equal chance of finding any of them when you loot it.

When you start adding perk levels, you gain +2 chance to the magazine series that the perk raises the find chance to. So say you perk into light armor and medium armor, the probability to find those is 3 and the remaining magazines are still at 1. Each perk level adds +2 chance (maximum of 11 probability at max perk level), but the bonus goes away once you find all the magazines in that crafting series.

In vanilla 7D2D, there are 13 crafting series. To determine the probability of finding a magazine in a loot container, you take the probability of the base probability of that base magazine plus perk bonus divided by the total probability of all magazines possible in the loot crate. In a Crack'A'Book crate, the loot table is for all 13 magazine series so if you are looking for handgun magazine, your probability is 1/13 with no perks and 7/19 if you have only the first 3 perks in handguns unlocked.

Higher chance for armor magazines
But noticed I used Crack'A'Book as an example. If you were to search in a Shotgun Messiah crate, your probability is 0 because they are not part of those crates. If you were to look in a Savage country crate instead, your chances are much higher as the Armor series is one of five in the first lootgroup for that container.

In addition, the change to the loot bags means Thugs and Soldiers have a higher chance of having an armor magazine inside compared to common drops, Nurses, Labs, utility, etc.

Hmm... that makes sense except that Armored Up magazines seem exceptionally rare now, far rarer than the numbers you provide would imply.

I put a point into Medium Armor long before I even got out of Primitive Armor for the sole purpose of trying to get the magazines more often. At this point in my current game, I have maxed a few different skills, but my armor skill is still at tier 3 even when I am buying every Armored Up magazine I see at traders. Maybe there is a new bug or something that is making them more rare than they are supposed to be?

No they seem about right since you only have two tiers to unlock. Currently I am on Day 35 and at Level 49 for all the armors. So that means I been getting a bit more than 1 a day on average from looting, bundles, and purchasing from traders when I have the coin and they are available.

One thing I haven't checked is if perking into multiple armor perks is additive to your chances of finding armor crafting magazines. So for example, perking into Light armor 1 and medium armor two, is that the equivalent of perking into one armor 3 times? I don't see anything in the xml code that prevents it, but I might have missed it or it maybe in the source code.

Also, you are comparing it to previously when it quickly got to high levels because of attribute increases.

I think it's good. Makes finding Any good armor something great full for. Makes crafting armor harder and it become less reliable

I could get capped armor by like day 30. Or less

That's a kinda massive nerf. Not complaining, I don't know where the balance should be, but I've never spent points to armor skills until I'm flooded with extras. I guess I'm picking three 1/x:s at some point in the near future.. giggle.

Someone mentioned somewhere else that they appear in more specific containers than before. I forget what they said and haven't looked at the XML. Maybe shotgun messiah?
You didn't read my spoiler apparently :cautious:

I call it a balancing change, not a nerf. ;)
