Are horde nights suppose to end?

Hmm, "supposed to", who knows?

Do they? Yup. The early ones tend to end up after midnight for me.

The xml states that there should be a long wave after the "main" horde; 100 zeds to kill starting from gamestage 2 and 200 from GS 16 on; so basically the 200 zed wave should be always there. However I often end up with about 80 - 100 kills; having killed mostly everything myself. Dunno how that happens, it shouldn't really; the only traps I commonly use is an eFence, and that doesn't kill many.

Finished my 35th day horde an hour ago irl, the angry meats stopped climbing the ladder through the two electric fence posts that I installed to slow them down in about 2:30 AM. Yeah, lots of bullets went in them, both crafted and loot, used yellow pistol and 6th tier AK, got few bites though.

All that on default settings, difficulty set two levels up and spawn is 48, the last setting before 64 at one time.

After 7th or 8th horde night it all goes till 4 am though. And I am really into killing everyone out there, leveled up and so on, so I deserve some fun.
 
They can end early if you kill off all the zombie waves before the night's over. It's not uncommon when playing solo with the default bloodmoon settings.

That's turning into one of my pet weirdnesses.. the early game hordes aren't defined as "3 waves"; there's one moment, gamestages 16 and 19 where there are 3 defined waves, everything before that is way more evenly spread into 6 (tiny) waves. Above 19, there are three equal "waves" and a slower rolling wave of 200 zeds after those, so 4 in total; in the spec.

At least that's how it's defined; in practice I don't think that group of 200 actually spawns, because I don't think I've done a sub GS 23 horde in a long while, and I usually don't kill more than a 100 in an early one, often feels less.
 
They added that trickle effect to extend horde night, but it really doesn't do much. They should just make it so the last wave repeats until 4 am. Then it will never end early unless you (or everyone at the same time in multiplayer) dies.

I play with 120 minute days, so I'm totally okay with horde night ending early. 😅
 
I do as well, and I like it lasting all night. 😁

Hah, well, it's actually worse than I let on. Generally I pop into devmode , set the timescale to 1, and then exit devmode at the beginning of every session. I'm not sure what that actually comes out to. 240 minute days? 360 perhaps? It's amazing how much ammo you can burn through on horde night with your timescale set that low.
 
I believe mine last the full duration of the bloodmoon is because I have my wife playing the game with me, since she's with me, if understanding correctly, lets say I have the count at 20, there is my 20 plus her 20 per wave. I could be understanding it all wrong though.

That's max_alive; the number of zeds active at once. Whatever that number is, increasing it only allows you to do more damage, and thus kill faster.

But groups will get a higher tier horde, which means more (and worse) enemies, so that will slow you down; if the better half isn't carrying you, ofc. ;)

Yeah it definitely brings out the tougher zeds right off the bat, like acid spitting vultures, plus mostly radiated ones on the first wave. I'm glad they put in the death penalty option to be turned off, my wife would never leave level 1 🤣 Last blood moon she died 5 times and it sucks because she refuses to put a bed down for the blood moon and it spawns her 100m-200m away lol
