I think it would really help new players to have an indicator pop up (even just a few words above the tool bar) if they are using a not great tool for a block. (like a pickaxe on a fridge instead of a wrench). If they haven't seen certain tools yet, they have no way of knowing, and even after seeing the tools, some things just aren't obvious, like how a wrench interacts with things a pickaxe would take care of (i.e. reinforced doors).
