Anyone running into weird stability issues? ie you remove a wall piece and the floor collapses

I was working on my horde base and there was no indication of instability. I had placed bars all around my fighting position and I realized I needed to place a hatch so I broke a few bars DIRECTLY above a support that went all the way to the ground and the entire floor collapses under me. It was perfectly stable before. I was REMOVING materials that was directly above a support column. There was NOTHING attached to the floor which was fully supported between the 4 columns.

I can't understand how this happened. I was literally taking weight off the structure and nothing the piece I removed was even TOUCHING the floor that collapsed

As a 1200+ hr player I have never had this happen to me before. WTF?

Well, sounds like a bug, but the SI system is prone to weirdness.

Entertaining the possibility of it being a "real" collapse; you were removing things attached to the support. How much that conveys support and for where depends on the structure.

For example, you can make a hanging structure, where you form something like a P, just not have the bottom of the loop attach for support. Now if you stand on the bottom of the loop and break the top of the pole, your "floor" loses all support. You "roof" would too, but with 3D shapes and other supports being involved, it might be that the roof is more stable than the floor.

But yeah, I'm guessing it's just an SI hiccup. If you want, try and recreate it in a test world.

Were those bars connected to a roof that extended beyond the platform? Could the support have come from the roof?

Your best option for finding the cause would be to go to the POI Editor and do the same build and see if you can see where the stability or glue issue is. I've run into times when I was sure I had things right, only to realize there was a small mistake that caused the collapse. It could be that or a bug. If you are close to max stability, it is easy to cause a collapse even when it doesn't seem to make sense.

@Riamus doesn´t even need to be in the POI editor. Using debug mode you can use the "Show stability" option. The editor is a bit confusing if you use it for the first time.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. There was no roof at the time just some bars for walls. everything was cobblestone. the piece I broke was directly above the pillar that went to the ground. In terms of stability I basicly removed a block from on top of a foundation and had the floor between the foundations collapse. there should have been zero contact between the pieces I removed and the pieces that collapsed. the stability at the time was great. just a serious head scratcher. when I was placing the pieces everything was green so I just dont get how it could have possibly been an issue. I'll try and recreate it and look at debug mode to see if I can find the culprit

You can't really trust the green/yellow/red when placing blocks. Stability checks aren't very accurate when doing that. Having the actual stability display showing through debug or the editor is far more accurate. It will show if there is something really close to max stability. You could also show a screenshot of that floor and the one (s) below so we have an idea of what you were doing. But that will not help too much.

It may be that when it recalculated stability when you broke that block, it was too high. You can sometimes go over stability only to have to fail the next time it checks. Something like upgrading a block or adding a someone on the floor or growing crops can all lead to unexpected problems.

This is 100% true, and honestly kind of frustrating. I often get it to show red (though I'd call it pink) when I'm placing blocks on solid ground, and I can't remember it showing anything other than red when planting seeds.

The game somehow strangely recalculates durability. When you just build, it works fine. But when you start replacing blocks, some strange incidents happen. I once destroyed my base this way, now I try not to rebuild what I have already built.
