PC Anyone else think this version is a big pile of stinking Krap?

My point was it wasn't mindless until A18. I found surface boulder mining (A17 and before) to be relaxing, rewarding (outwith the actual resources) and FUN.
Hmm, reading your dilemma.. If I read it right, your group has optimized a play style that relies on you performing a role you don't want to perform in this version. You have entertained couple choices here:

- "keep doing the role even if it bores you, for the group"

- "quit the game"

- "edit the game"

I'll just throw in another: tell your group "get yer own damn ammo". Or better yet; "I'm not really willing to do mining in this version, we'll need to come up with something new, either to conserve resources or share the boredom." It's a new challenge for a good crew, "how to deal with less mining time". I'm sure you guys can solve it ;)

Anyone else think this version is a big pile of stinking Krap?

No. While I miss the hatch-elevators and hope TFP eventually come up with some (powered) option for vertical movement up and down, I survive the loss of water elevators and I will survive this, too.

Everything else I find to be either a wash or an improvement.

You are right things are still pretty much level gated just in a different way. But the way it is set up feels almost about right with a little more balancing done. What is it you want to do? Just freely buy into steel on day one? Or buy into 4x4 on day one? If that is the case I would agree with others and say mod it. And yes you can turn that around I know but unless it is something that TFP want to do and or they change it for the majority then right now you are on the side of the fence that isn't how it is currently is and also not the majority wants. So in this specific situation you are goin to have to mod it not the other way. Anyway things feel almost right where they should be and maybe it will be different and or feel even more right when other things get added down the road like A19 or something. For me and I have played for a long time this is one of my favorite alphas so far. Of course that is just my opinion.
I don't want to get all these things day one by any means, lol. Don't worry - I'm not trying to be that ridiculous.

What I want, is to get rid of the actual attribute skills. Do away with the level/attribute gates. Crank exp down a little bit to make up for it. That way, you level up slower, but you still advance a little quicker - because you're not wasting your time with bull♥♥♥♥ prerequisite attribute levels that serve you no other purpose than to unlock skills. To me, that doesn't make a skill feel earned, it makes 3/4th of my level ups feel like a waste of f'king time, ya know? Like, let's say you're a knuckle and AK character right? Well, you need to still unlock some things in INT. Workbench, steel, maybe medicine, etc. But to get there right now, you have to waste several levels (which beyond early game can be multiple hours each) just building up an INT attribute that doesn't do a damned thing but finally give you access to the things you actually want to level up.

That's my big (really, only) issue with the current progression system.

There's also a really hidden, super secret option that only the elitest of the elites know....

Voice your displeasure in the current system in the hopes that enough other people do the same so that you encourage change.

I want zombies digging. I JUST WANT ZOMBIES. Doing anything. I don't care what. Just give me some goddam zombies in the world!!!!
What's fun about a day spent down a hole starting at a Pick and rockface? I am genuinely curious. I've been mining 3 days straight in every 7 days and have encountered NOTHING. I thought I'd at least get a Screamer to make the new A18 gameplay (hole-dwelling) marginally interesting, but....nope. Nothing. Nada. No fun allowed. How in hell is Mining FUN????
I agree that there are less zombies out there nowadays. However you'll get zombies for sure on horde night. But wait weren't you the one complaining about too many of them?

Mining is relaxing for some of us. Same as going around destroying surface boulders is fun for you but BORING AS HELL for me. You spend too much time getting in/out of the vehicle and you have to look for surface boulders. Time is money and you get a CRAP ton more resources by staying on one spot. Yeah you get to run around exploring new areas but I can already do that by driving around in my jeep looking for new places to loot. Also I have the perk where there's a chance that diamonds, silver and gold drops during mining so there's some excitement there. Raw diamonds can made into a mod. Maybe it's bugged for you but I get zombies digging to me/appearing every time I mine.

1) it was a bug that finally got fixed. Don't complain about other bugs if you don't want bugs fixed. They was talk about them working on an actual elevator of some kind so maybe we will get one soon.
2) chill, no need to get your blood pressure up it is just books. Books was a thing back several alphas ago and a lot of people been wanting them back. It is good that they got them back in my opinion and hopefully once they get things balanced out more they will fill even better.

3) why can't you? It isn't level locked anymore in a way at least. Sure some stuff you gotta get x amount of points for that only comes with leveling up before buying into something but at least now you don't spend x amount of points to unlock something but then you have to wait to be a specific level to use it. Some more balancing with the way they have it will become even better then the way it is. They have already changed some stuff for it so give it time. See how it plays out.

4) it still in game. Try making wooden storage/furniture and then put it in hands and push R to open up a menu with a lot more shapes and items. Hold R to go to it as well and to pull up advance rotation and such.

5) this has always been an issue and will hopefully get worked out soon. Guess everyone is different but I would say this is at the bottom of the list of things to get worked on. But again just my opinion.

6) ore looks a lot better now. Is it perfect? No but this is definitely not something that I would say is a must to get fixed. Mining to me now is a lot better then it was. Sure I miss just digging and getting excited to fine ore when I came across if I didn't miss it because it was harder to see. But it took a lot of time as well. Now I can go mining for what I want and need then get back to it.

I love the game as well and have lots of hours. Why be in a rush to move on? We keep getting more updates as it is. Once it is done not so much. Besides it is alpha don't be like TT and see a finished game before it is actually finished. They have more things they want to do and they are more then welcome to do those things as it is their game. Anyway besides a few unbalanced things a lot of us are having fun and enjoying the way it is shaping into. You don't like this update but A17. I didn't care at all for A17. If they go a direction I don't enjoy I will move on because they can't and not going to please everyone.
1.) They patched it because zombies couldn't use them to gain access to your base. He's mad he's got screamers knocking on his door again.

2.) Loot pool is to diluted now, and they are sort of annoying TBH.

3.) Perks are still technically level locks as you need x number of SP to perk into them steel perks for example require a minimum of 20 levels to perk into.

4.) Search "Storage box" instead of "Storage chest" they are still there man.

5.) Bike faster, storage smaller, truck bigger also storage bigger, it's a trade off.

6.) Wut m8? Mining is like 90000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000x easier now. Don't mess with it again. Coal = Burnt Biome also easy to find in snow biome. Look for black rocks on surface and digstraight down and out you'll find 10000s of it.

With surface boulder mining you are always moving around and opening the map, encountering things, discovering POIs and popping in to loot them and so on. It's a mini-adventure. In A18 I spend an entire day down a hole staring at a rockface and encountering nothing more interesting than the odd cave-in. No comparison.
You said yourself you are the group's miner. The main purpose of the mining is to gather resources. TFP's intention of mining is to dig underground for ores so you should get used to mining underground. In A18, if you spent 24 in-game hours mining underground you should have 20-30+ stacks resources using an auger with the right mining skills. If you don't have an auger...well wow, poor soul.

True you gain more ore in A18 ( guesstimate about 50% more than a day's boulder mining used to give) but with the unbalanced MP gamestage you burn a ton more of those resource so it works out about the same. I still spend 2.5 to 3 days in every 7 on average mining to get enough gunpowder and lead for the group, except now I have 3 days spent in a goddam hole of boredom instead of 3 days driving across unknown areas of the map for boulders and having adventures.

If you can't see the difference in fun factor between 3 days boulder mining while having random adventures and 3 days down a hole then I don't know what to tell you.
Yes I do. You're supposed to be the group's miner and yet in A17 you relied on surface boulders. And now that A18 requires actually mining UNDERGROUND you complain because you're not used to mining underground. Do you have an auger and if so which mods? Using an auger makes mining go much faster.

Perhaps someone else needs to be miner in your group or all you can respec and mine together so that:

1. You won't get bored and

2. You gather more resources quickly.

Doing all that. 24 blade traps in 2 separate linked kill boxes. Still using double the ammo we used to. [Edit: only in MP co-op, SP is fine. This is an important point, see below]

Only our stop-gap living base that we always erect while we build the main kill base was destroyed.
No shotgun turrets, molotovs, grenades, electric posts or anything? Have you guys tried recog? Gives 400% ranged buff. Use it with a tier 6 M60 and you'll destroy things quickly. Do you have the rad removal mod? So what exactly is your guys' strategy? Perhaps you guys don't have all the good mods or perks yet. When I first leveled to 70 I went mainly specced with food/resource gathering. After that I made enough money to buy and use the forget elixir which allowed me to respec my skills. I respecced to do more damage/defense/healing this time around.

Have you not listened? I have 2 games on the go right now, one single player, one multiplayer. Both are roughly on the same day (33). Settings were identical. My build plan is identical in both....live in a concrete box with simple defences while the proper kill base is built. Obviously we get the main base finished quicker in MP as we have more hands to build it, but typically the temp base handles 3 to 4 horde nights and always has.

There is no comparison now in A18. My SP game is a walk in the park. I need to stress that. I didn't need to adjust or adapt from A17 tactics at all; everything going as planned and expected in single player; no complaints (except the mining). MP game....totally different story. Unbalanced combined gamestage is resulting in massively more ammo needed and destruction of temp base.
Obviously MP must be made tougher than SP because there are more human players involved. So you cannot compare the two and they should NOT be equal. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say it is possible that MP GS needs to be looked it and adjusted to be more balanced. Although it is also possible you guys rushed through everything just to level up and now cannot handle what the game has given you. If you hadn't noticed the AI has changed from A17 to A18, so you must also change your tactics/strategy/base design. If all else fails you could try reducing the difficulty level or bumping up exp/durability settings

Hopefully I've clarified things for you.
Yeah I still don't think bringing back surface boulders is the answer. TFP intended for mining to be underground. As for the MP part we need more MP feedback to see if MP GS calculations need to be looked at again.

Edit: Just found the last mining book. I now have 20% chance to 1 shot ore! :) Works great so far!

This version except for RWG at the moment is a 100x better... for gameplay.. Only thing id fix if I could is the AI, It takes less than a 25 IQ to confuse them still lol :)

How would 2 of us down a hole make it not boring?

All true. But I used to particularly enjoy mining boulders and the adventure that came with it. It was the highlight of the game for me other than horde night.

They should not be equal but they should not be this different. My solo day 21 horde (gamestage 100) was a walk in part, lasted to only 11.45pm and was defeated by a tier 2 Pistol with a few hundred rounds. My 2-player co-op horde (combined GS 320) on the same night, and against which we had tier 6 weapons (AK and Pump) and Grenades, lasted to 3am and had multiple cops and demolishers and we lost the temp base - which was exactly the same build as the solo temp base. And we fired over 2000 rounds as well.

Think that amount of difference is correct?

If you hadn't noticed the AI has changed from A17 to A18, so you must also change your tactics/strategy/base design.
If you hadn't noticed I already said....I used the exact same tactics in solo that I've used and perfected since forever, and they work just as well as they always have. Haven't had to change a thing in solo.

I highly doubt you have much choice but to edit the XML's for your next map to make the boulders drop the ores you want. TFP aren't likely to build it back into the base game, and since you're playing experimental, you're almost certainly going to have to reset the map anyway at some point pretty soon.

From what I understand, zombie spawns in the wild were reduced for performance reasons, and zombie spawns in POIs were reduced to make the starting game easier. The latter is a change for the better, IMHO, and is here to stay. The former I believe will be returned to previous levels once they nail performance issues and complete the zombie models overhaul. Again, this is all pieced together from what I've read on the forums, so take it with a grain of salt, but I do not believe the current number of zombies in the wild is anywhere near its final form.

Speaking for mining, would be nice to see ore nodes in the sides of mountains too, where there could be some horizontal mining into a mountain for ore rather than always down.

In alphas past I loved passing by a huge cliff face and you could just see ore nodes on the side. Instead of digging down, I had to build up to mine the ore. It was fun.

Uh you can talk to each other while mining... If you're not talking to each in co-op MP then what's the point of playing co-op MP?

Uh SP day 21 and you're ALREADY at GS 100?!! Geez I see the problem already! At day 21 I was probably GS early 20s to early 30s. I spent my time exploring, gathering resources, finding all types of mods and books. This is a BRAND new alpha so I was more cautious although I did bump difficulty level to warrior.

You guys are the type to RUSH and no wonder you got demolished at day 21 in MP...No more sympathy from me here.

I said this so many times. MP is different than solo. You should NOT be using solo tactics in MP. You should also not be using older version tactics/strategys in A18.

Looks like you don't want to change your ways nor do you want to accept other people's advice so no more point talking to you...

Good day.

Edit: Updated GS. Don't remember exact GS...been a while but I know I took my time was nowhere close to GS 100 at day 21.

I mean if they do something like discord then they would be talking while one is looting, one exploring, one building and one mining so this would only be good if you only using game chat to talk to one another.

Yeah but we're talking about 2 people mining. They're both online at the same time and most likely in the same mine pit so they could talk to help ease mining.

Yeah I know, I was just sayin if they was using something besides game chat they be talking no matter what anyway no matter in a hole together or not. But yeah I get what you was sayin.

Fyi. Last patch just adjusted GS on MP games. Should be better for you guys now.
