PC Anyone else miss looting zombie corpses?

I miss them sometimes. It was nice to see hundreds of them all scattered around your base after a horde night.
Cleaning up didn’t bother me as is claimed to be one of the reasons for removal.

What bothered me a lot about those was just how ugly they were. You would kill a cheerleader and a moment later she turns into a cartoony version of a bald male corpse that’s been decaying for years with its limbs folded like a towel. Not just ugly in graphics, but also in physics. They would sit on top of spikes all perfectly horizontal like they were flattened pieces of wood or something.

Unfortunately they still use that hideous thing in some POIs.
Don't you dare, those are basically one of the only damn blocks in this game that still gives out the feeling that everyone died at the hands of blood-thirsty monsters and the world is ending. They even removed the old corpse blocks that you would sometimes encounter in some POIs or in the road.

Aside from a couple small blood splatters here and there, there's almost no decaying corpses anywhere. In a zombie apocalypse, this is a no no. Thank God we have those gore blocks to decorate the apocalypse a little bit at least.

It would be nice if we had zombie corpse blocks that looked like sleepers (not entities). That would keep people on their toes...and allow prefab creators add more randomness to each POI.

I do miss the looting. Getting a loot bag now and then is much more convenient, of course, but it feels a bit fake.

I remember asking madmole if zombie "decoys" were planned (basically what you just described). He said they were.

Welp. Instead, they removed the sitting corpse and half dismembered corpse block. Sad.

Definitely do. The morning after a horde when you'd go out with your fire axe and know that you were upping your scavenging skill followed by some choppy choppy, get some bones while looking at the damage (or lack of) to the horde base and working out your strategy on how to expand ready for the next horde was one of the best moments in the game.

No, MASSIVE waste of time.Current bag drops are perfect solution.
Correction: *Almost* Perfect. ;)

I'd like the loot bag despawn timers to be tweaked to last until like 5am the morning after horde night (only triggered during a blood moon horde, of course).

Yes, I know there is a gameplay decision as to whether to loot or stay in a safer spot. And I do like that. But it's super disappointing to know you had five yellow bags down there and now you have one. You *always* wonder...what was in those bags.

:p

Looting and clearing corpses was awesome. Picking up an occasional backpack with 1 steel ingot or a can of food is boring.

I kinda miss the Christmas-morning-like opening of corpses routine, tho the loot was pretty meager.

I have modded my server to a) make zombie corpses harvestable for a bit of rotting flesh, bone, and nitrate (and slightly nerfed roadkill to compensate) and b) slightly increase the chance of loot bag drops from zombies. I think my game is 1/25 instead of 1/50 now for normal zeds. It encourages me to engage zombies more when I'm out exploring. Used to be I'd kinda just avoid fights because really the looting was where the value was, but now I'm more inclined to fight a normal zed in the hopes of a loot bag. Psyching myself out I guess...

The loot-specific drops made sense and was fun, so I miss that. Now every zombie gives really random stuff it seems. Still rewarding, but not as much fun. But the massive cleaning effort was a nuisance that I'm glad is gone. I always felt compelled to clean up and it always took several in game hours that I could have spent looting instead. It used to annoy me that the landscape would sink if I left a zombie corpse to decompose all the way. Then my OCD would force me to fix it by placing a frame on the problem area. Not sure if that happened in A16, but I know it did in A15.

That's not true. Both the ugly torsos and the much better looking decaying corpses are in POIs... more so the better one.

On top of that they've added in body bags with flies and pretty nice looking street gore.

They had the blue-shirt-zombie cut into couple different corpses that used to be found in some places.. (old military base barracks ceiling, one factory building with an underground section and plenty others.) That's the thing that's gone.

Nah, I don't miss it. I realized this when I tried a modded server with lootable zombie corpses. Felt like a huge waste of time.

In previous versions it was ok after a horde night to get a bit more reward, but POI runs and all other activities were much more tedious and slow.

I see. Did it look good? If it did, why did it look good when zombie corpse containers looked like butt?

The current blood decal on roads needs to go too since it also looks like butt.

I do think they need more gore in this game, though.

More blood splatter decals to go inside POIs, even the walls. Zombies dead and alive, impaled by large spikes at POIs.

I would like to see the results of many suicides too. Corpses hanging from trees, some still alive but zombified. Dead people in chairs / couches etc with a pistol on the floor. Zombies strapped to chairs with a pile of pill bottles on the floor... maybe even a note to read.

Some blood drip particle effects to come from ceilings, perhaps entrails dangling from the edges of opened ceiling tiles, then you look in the ceiling and see a body or two.

Zombies stuck in the windshields of crashed cars.

An armored version of the school bus with spikes, zombie parts in the spikes.

Yeah.. all those. Ugly flattened grayish brown zombie towels, no.

Good? Well, better than the pancake corpse block does. It was essentially a zombie, just a loot container. Why better? Ehh, Alpha. The gore block system was to be designed to be lightweight but never got into a decent shape, so the interim implementations look rough. I'm assuming even the pancake is going to get a remodel sooner or later.

Agree with the <snipped> part, would be great to have some proper grimness to the game. And a bloodsplatter system that permanently taints the killing floors we create ourselves.. a mop for the people want to clean it.

Nope, I'm super glad they're gone. That's hours less I have to spend cleaning up my base, and the game has more than enough loot.

Nice. I have a feeling you've been watching The Walking Dead.

I mean, if all those awesome things you described were implemented, I wouldn't mind if they took the "ugly" gore block and the current blood decals out.

However, they're most likely not implementing any of that stuff, and I'd much rather have the little gore we have now than to take it away and have a much tasteless world to explore. Sure, the new corpse bags with flies are a wonderful new addition, but we seriously need more grisly stuff in the game. That's what makes the difference between games that are immersive and games that are not.

Yeah the details mean a lot. There really aren't many in this game. They did a great job with the junk turret and stun baton. They have a lot character in their design, the models were well done, and the player interaction with them is well done. I'm hoping that same attention cascades down to everything else that existed beforehand. If this game goes gold and the player still does not take the lid off of the jar before having a drink, I will be disappointed.

Usually when I post about that kind of stuff a barrage of opposing posts follow stating that this is a survival game and not a horror game.

Maybe it's because I said nothing about zombie children this time. But now I did... uh oh.

I haven't been watching the Walking Dead... but, I have watched all but the more recent episodes. So I'm sure some scenes are floating around in my head. If there is anything zombie and I'm aware of it, I watch it or have already watched it. I actually might not watch those recent TWD episodes though. The show is more of a drama than anything now. There is a short series called "Black Summer" on Netflix that I really liked. It doesn't have great reviews though. People complain about the fast zombies and how stupid the survivors are. I blame the Walking Dead. Everybody has the impression now that every survivor just knows what to do all the time and won't be crapping their pants every waking minute.
