PC Announcing: A19 Streamer Weekend Application

Not a crime but subjectly rewarding loyalty is like going down a rabbit hole.

So if I only contribute to modding for 1 to 2 years I'm not loyal enough?  Or wait, I've made 20 modlets but there not that popular so I'm not loyal enough there too?  See what I mean?
That's why I say pick five.  Once those places are filled... tough titty.  It gives an opportunity to give credit to those who may deserve it but may not have the requirements of a professional streamer.  It's not just a numbers game.

Addendum:

To be fair, I'm pretty surprised "tough titty" made it through the profanity filter.  🙂

Maybe they can consider a loyalty contest event in the future but it honestly does more harm then good imo.

Not worth putting a select few on a pedestal when in reality there are many more out there who have also shown their loyalty.  All the kickstarters for example.

As was mentioned recently in the dev diary, the amount of active forum members who hang around for longer than a year is surprisingly small.  Would it really be a war-crime to hand keys out to a few people who have been instrumental in the development of the game and community, who also happen to have a long-running live-stream (regardless of numbers)?

If you only go by the numbers you may miss something that is morally or ethically correct despite not being an optimal solution.

Yes, it is a special reward, a medal if you will.  Why not give extra attention to those who have participated in the community for many years?  You want a limit?  Okay, five, five people who have spent years adding depth and giving advice in many areas of the games development, they can have a free pass.  Y'all know TFP hang around the modding forums, to say they haven't benifited from this is delusional at best.
5? What will MrMadnessMD  say about your porposal? Doesn't he deserve a spot then too? He surely won't be among the top 5. If you make this about rewards you automatically divide the community into two parts, the ones who seem to deserve it and the ones who don't.

If they've had a livestream broadcast for over 3-5 years they've already shown that they have commitment.  How many modders can say that?  How many backers?

See the reply above, the numbers are smaller than you may think.

It's the same thing as "give it to modders".  How do you decide which modders, etc...

...and I'm not sure if Roland is aware, but TFP has a built in rebuttal for all of the "why do streamers get it first" complaints...

Just a few weeks ago EVERYONE who read the forums had an opportunity to get early access by participating in the testing program.  From what I can tell, *tons* of people got it, then there were cuts, and then another round of new testers.  Seems to me that argument would shred any "I should get it early" arguments. (shrug)

Did you actually read what I wrote?

Yes, it is abitrary to a large extent but anyone who is that desperate for a sneak peak has already signed up for the A19-beta-alpha-beta-test-thingy.  Hell, only award it to anyone who is part of the A19-beta-alpha-beta-test-thingy and you can discard anyone who smells funny without reason.

Excellent point Guppy. I sure hope whomever Gronk has in mind applyed for the pre-experimental testing.  Peronsally, I think volunteers who actually test and report bugs are more loyal then any streamer out there.

I'll give you a moment to catch up...

How about... they _are_ the streamers!

Im a bit confused.  You say, its not just a numbers game and your new drawn line is the same thing (3 to 5 years streaming)...  I looks like whatever i say won't change your mind so I will just leave things here.  Roland said it better then I ever could have in his original post about loyalty.

I'm saying, a long-standing community member with a long-term but modest stream who has provided service to TFP with feedback and/or modding for the vanilla game should at least have the opportunity to be recognized for their service.  As I have already said, it's arbitrary, but if you pick the top five people who fit this category for the last 3-5 years of the games development I'd be surprised if you could find enough candidates to fill all of the slots.

Make it a special reward, only handed out to a select few for services above and beyond the call of duty.  Even career field officers deserve their day in the sun.

No, sure didn't.  I'da quoted you if I was referring to something you said. 😃

So so me, Jax, Fox, Sphereii and Roland, for various reasons.

...I'm probably the biggest contributor TFP has in overall numbers; most posts, highest rep count, most mods, prior tester, tutorial videos, etc...

I've deliberately avoided naming names, I've just proposed a set of rules which allow for credit where it is deserved, not earned.  A subtle but significant difference.

you guys calm down or I am turning this forum right around and we're going home then no one gets to play... 😛

If the rules suck then change the rules.

Just add an extra qualifying rule where a forum member or modder who has been active for more than 3-5 years gets to stream.   Yes, that's a judgement call but it's also a friendly gesture to those who support you and provides support to them in return.  You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours.  Must everything be a one way street?

Hey!  I just noticed I've got no "warning points" on my profile!  Do those things dissappear over time or was it a bug from the changeover?  I was quite proud of that particular moment  🙂
That changes it from a marketing tatctic to a reward program, Completely changing the reason for it's existence...

well said XD thank you for understanding

Yeah, I've had time with MrMadnessMD on my shows (Granted I'm no partner nor have the "numbers" but as a person whose friend gets shafted I have to say least my peace here from a third party standpoint) during the posting of this "event" and let me address a few things here.

#1 - It's a marketing ploy, pure and simple. Mind you, You can achieve the same thing by opening a free weekend and giving new players a chance to play on limited time keys. It's not a new game, its new content. Why restrict the player-base and expect new players to buy and play the game that is being showcased only to find out they will have to wait like the rest of the players/supporters who have to wait. If I was say for example, Ninja, Summit1G, DrDisrespect, Pewdiepie, Markiplier, etc. you'd have to pay me just if you wanted that marketing advantage, but then my responses would have to be generic and positive if I wanted to keep that deal in place. You see what's sad, is I could play games that aren't in release right now than A19, I get sent review keys from all sorts of games all the time because I don't have a filter and I gut games and honor the ones like gods who make a great game and royally roast the few who fail. And as an added benefit livestream, offer counseling, and give open critique for a living. Now say for the sake in this argument would I meet this criteria? No. Do I think it's flawed and should've been done better? Well I'll let you all answer that yourselves.

#2 - I wouldn't say I support the game, however I always say if its a game "I don't like" doesn't mean it's not a great game. I only had 27 hours in the last 4-5 years of owning it. It's a game I prefer to play with friends so unless friends go, "Hey man come play with us!" I see little to no interest in it because of my own personal opinions, which everyone is entitled to.

#3 - Rewards? You guys know nothing of rewards, what it sounds like to me you offer nothing but free content to the ones who at the end of the day will bring more eyes to your game. Sponsors? Merch? Access to a game for a limited time? Those are rewards, what I see here is nothing more than a bait and switch and the ones who sign up are going to have to put up with all the negative PR because someone had the glorious idea to put peoples names up on a board who get to play the game while others have to twiddle their thumbs. All and if anything good at all will be that will come from this because people are mad, and they have every right to be. Well, look at that, just so happens someone plastered all the names of the individuals getting on the board for everyone to go after...weird.

Granted, I am being completely selfish here, but after playing for years and having over 2000 hours, this does feel like a @%$*#! kick.
