Howdy All!
Simple and, some may say, picky point.
AP Ammo is, well, incorrect; adding lead to a projectile does not make it AP, a tungsten or perhaps steel core to a lead bullet would make more sense.
Steel would be the simplest to implement in my opinion, as all the ingredients already exist in the game; in my opinion, adding a unit of steel would make it AP for gaming considerations at least....balance out the lead as you see fit.
The other thing is....well somewhat personal....LOL!
I'm retired Army, when we were firing on the range, we had the chance to "Police" our spent casings and gather up the brass, is this a possible adaptation?
Perhaps making brass through stripping electrical parts, (Copper and Zinc), on say...the work bench, then smelting in to Brass? This would give a reasonable secondary source for players.
Policing the brass was NEVER perfect, and quite often there were rounds missing, so a percentage of loss could be incorporated to maintain the need for salvaging.

Well, when it comes to tungsten, it needs a lot more than 2000+°F to where it's malleable, tungsten requires 6000+°F to melt. In which case, there's no forge in the game to melt tungsten and there's no tungsten in the game.

If you need brass, the radiator from cars or those white metal heaters you see mounted on walls in houses (use the wrench on em) give a lot of brass when you smelt em down (250 brass). Policing spent casings would be very tedious for most players and take too much time looking for all of em, especially if using an MG.

There's at least one mod that added a brass catcher as a mod that could be added to some (all?) guns.

But the easiest source of brass is dukes.

Steel for ammo would be a hard no for most people, I'd think. Not that you ever really need to craft ammo any more.

There have been a few posts in the past asking for the ability to recover spent casings. From an immersion standpoint, I can see the value. However, ammo is so easy to get that you never really need to craft any of it unless you're wasting a ton of ammo for some reason. That doesn't mean they couldn't add it or make it a mod for a weapon, though. Brass is also already very easy to get, so not having the spent casings even if you needed to craft ammo isn't really a big deal either.

As far as the AP ammo ingredients, I would just ignore that. Look at pretty much every recipe in the game and you'll see things that just don't make sense if you were to really craft it. Either missing stuff or stuff that is there that wouldn't really be needed or just odd amounts. It's all for gameplay and isn't intended to be realistic.

Yeah you would think the amount of duct tape you need for a Q6 drone, you would at least see some of it on the model in game 😉
