Yes, working stoves would be cool. What I do at the moment is I put the campfire on a block and then paint the front face of the block with a stove texture, and then out a wedge above that with a ventilation texture to look like an extractor fan.

I always wondered why we couldn’t use the ovens or the actual house fire places to cook on as they are right there to see.

The oven model / texture could be used, cut out, and have the fire burn in it.

Thats not that complicated to do.

There are lots of other high detail models in the game that most players dont interact with that often (lets say the crossbow)

But everyone interacts with the campfire.

Hmm. I think I read somewhere earlier in the thread about fixes for the insane GPU usage when Snow/Desert biome was visible, I thought that issue would have been fixed for 18.1 but no such luck.

Does anyone know at what page that fix was? Think there was something about changing some particles settings or so in the xmls.

I've been on a 2 week vacation following my wife around Europe. My main reason for going was to catch A-HA on their new tour. Saw them in Paris and Mannheim.
Went to France, Germany, Switzerland and Iceland for my wife's part of the vacation. ;)

Awesome! I was surprised when I first found out that they were Norwegian! Sounds like a lot of fun!

Strange, I know these reports don’t help you personally but I get no hit in desert or snow biomes myself. Of course pc hardware between us is going to probably be different.

I use an old i7 but most importantly here my gpu is a 1080ti.

You may be restricted by hardware or driver ware.

Bottom line though I thought they definitely had fixed It by my own experiences in game.

It's on a GTX 1070, and looking anywhere else but snow/desert biomes drops GPU usage down to normal 30-50% instead of 99% and bad fps looking at snow/desert. In 1080p resolution too, general High settings with some settings off/lowered.

Brand new Ryzen R5-3600X with 32Gb 3200 Mhz ram, running windows 10 on a Samsung Nvme M2 ssd , with 7days on a Samsung 970 Evo regular SSD (for now) So rest of the system is not even breaking a sweat. (Always keeping track of disk/gpu/mem/vram/cpu usage on my Logitech G19 Display :) )

It's so annoying I didn't save the tip to fix it -.- and the searchfunction does not agree with me at all :/

It might be "gfx af 0" !?

You can try setting the video option Texture Filter to Low, which does the same thing as the gfx af 0 console command.

I am currently working on adding a Terrain Quality video option, which currently changes the terrain shaders to simpler versions, than in testing shows a significant FPS increase at the cost of simpler terrain graphics.

@faatal Can you take a quick look at the heat when you are mining iron or lead with a pickaxe ? I have the impression that the heat here rises much faster than when I mine stone, coal or nitrate with a pickaxe. The reason could be that the noise when metal hits metal also generates heat.

Ah. Already have it set at low. Here's a screenshot of my exact settings, https://imgur.com/a/3PHqLC9

Most of the game is running at 60fps (even the large shotgun messiah factory), although generalky a lot more GPU is used from A17, but looking at the snowbiome shoots up the GPU usage to 99%, and framerate drops to the 30-40's.

Here's a few of suggestions to make electricity more interesting.

* Powered Doors & cia: add an option to invert open/close. I'd very much like to have a drawbridge that closes when a zombie is detected. I've done so in the past with the powered doors mod, too.

* Electrically triggered explosives. I'd say both of the little-block-damage and of the lots-of-block-damage type. It's a sort of a one-off mine you can trigger remotely at the time of your choosing, or even with trip wires and such. All sort of interesting applications, and because it's one-off, it should be easy to balance.

* Powered iron hatches. Iron hatches are the poor man's drawbridges, the one-high doors, and could even once serve as an elevator. Very versatile. Vault doors are basically cosmetic blocks that didn't even need to be crafted. Please make the iron hatches powered as well.

* For Mods, though I'm sure you could think of creative ways of using it, add a powered block class that adds buff when stepped on only when powered. For versatility, also add the option to invert on/off behavior, and ties for on/off models and transition animation.

I was about to complain when I reminded myself that I went through burn out this year due to too long without a vacation, so enjoy.

Sounds like the new Micro Splat terrain shader we are using. It just does a lot more math for each rendered terrain pixel.

I made this change today, which should be in our next A18 experimental:

Added Terrain Quality video option (Lowest or Low switches to terrain shader variants with only Albedo/Alpha which renders much faster).

I will probably be doing some other tweaks too. Like terrain draw distance.
