MM and I vehemently disagree because he appears to want a simple game where solutions are handed down to you over time, where I want a complicated game that challenges players to think and compensate. You know, the type of game it used to be. :)
He's going to win of course, it's his game, but I'm never going to stop fighting.

Right now weapons have stats. A low purple can be worse than a good brown, I think Gazz said? So those stats are already in the items... Have each usage of repair degrade those stats. Done.

Now you're not using the same purple that you find on day 1, because it's degrades, loot does not need to be nerfed, whiners don't need to worry about there mods rolling down a hill, and we bring back a little complication into what right now is far too simple.
I wish it was always that simple. Not all stats are created equal. Sounds like a balancing nightmare just for the sake of complexity. Simple is not necessarily a bad thing. Do more with less. 😎👍 A good design approach asks the question(s) what is required of a repair system first. For example:

1) Must be intuitive

2) Must take no more than X amount of a players overall time. (i.e. %)

3) Requires no more than X number of inputs/outputs.

Skipping a systematic design approach can lead to overly complex systems and unnecessary rework.

Reading your post and mulling over what happened my last 2 days of hard farm and loot: the Rad Remover I got yesterday is a foreshadowing (I'm very close to day 42). Day 35 wasn't cheap already: 500 7.62mm, 55 exploding bolts, 25 exploding arrows, 35 pipe bombs and 35 molotovs.
Trust me, at some point, the switch will flip for you. One horde you'll go from mostly ferals, to probably the next horde being most irradiateds.

No? People use algebra in their day to day without even realizing it.
Did you misread and think I said other maths were worthless? Because I didn't. I'm saying that at a bare minimum, algebra is frikkin' important.
I'm a lawyer and don't think I've ever used algebra.

Great videos Lazman and Mech lens! I can't wait to get into later game again. I finally got a bicycle on day 10 I think so now I can scout for a base location.
Why, thank you! After the horde I administered repairs, and have upgraded most of the inner walls to steel, and have capped over the two outside perimeter walls with a reinforced concrete/iron bar roof, with some hatches here and there to throw grenades down. Now to get the electrical systems working... Luckily, I purchased 5 shotgun turrets and 2 auto turrets from the traders the previous week.

As a replacement to the bundle book, how about the chance to get a small amount of another ore when hitting any ore or even rock? Your experience lets you find and collect even trace amounts of ore when you mine.

My current game I've made a point of not mining, not even surface rocks. Haven't placed a forge either. Found a working forge in a POI that I might go back and load up eventually, and several working workbenches. Also planted the seeds I've found in a POI's planter boxes so when I go back there in a few days (and hopefully after getting at least 2x harvesting perk) I'll harvest them. It's not that crafting is dead or anything, it's that now you have a choice. I will eventually get to the point where my stomach dictates when I have to move to the next town, but so far everything else has been ok. Most POI's yield at least as much food as the energy it took to clear them. Without mining I'm breaking even. Using arrows and bolts as fast as I find them (not fast at all) and hoarding most gun ammo for future needs for now...that probably won't be viable for much longer.

Not a fan of rage lunges. Almost killed melee for me. Still attempting it, but if the first hit doesn't stagger them they usually manage to get a shot on me if I'm indoors and backpedaling into walls/furniture. Once the tougher zombies start being dominant in random POI's due to gamestage I might have to default to guns, and I don't like that, but I see no other way. Still probably a game week away from that, I think/hope.

well they way your talking about sounds simple. but the way my teachers talk about it and how we can only do it "there way" then people start to hate it

but when i do it my way then its kinda easy

...compare that grammar to that monstrosity you wrote and get back to me.

How are you ever going to do self evaluations, resume's, company emails, coding, or hell even an application with that 3rd grade grammar? I'm not trying to be mean, but this is an example of what I'm talking about.

You've never been faced with a situation where you've known the answer to something, had some of the pieces, yet had to find the missing piece?

Because that's algebra.

If your car gets 30 MPG and it's 600 miles to Grandmas house and you've ever figured out that you'll use 20 gallons each way, welp, congrats, you've used algebra :)

Honestly I don't think so. Addition, subtraction and multiplication is what typically use and even then we use a calculator.

Sounds like an invitation to talk about lbd again.
... The flaw was that spam crafting a stone axe would allow the purchase of unrelated perks/skills... The overall idea was great. :)

I would rather have your cake and eat mine too. ;)

Algebra basically is the foundation of all math. Solving equations is algebra. If you want to figure how much to charge per hour in order to obtain a certain annual salary (and subtract whatever expenses), then you will need algebra.

A huge chunk of algebra is just that; addition, subtraction and multiplication. Algebra teaches you how to use them to find solutions to non straightforward problems.

Using FileMachete's example, knowing that you CAN divide the 600 by 30 to get the 20 comes from an algebra background, not the 3rd grade division class.

Think of algebra not as the quadratic equation, but as a method to use the concepts learned in 4th grade to derive a solution.

Hell, even runway models use algebra;

"Oh god I'm so fat!" "I weigh 101 pounds!!" <5'11" tall> "I have to lose sixxx whole pounds before Paris next month!!!"

"So I'll only eat one cracker a day..." :twitch:

... said they used it, not that they were any -good- at it

Let's say to make partner, you have to make a million in billable hours. Your current rate is $250 an hour. How many hours must you bill to qualify for partner?

...algebra. That's how many. =)

damn if my math teacher would have explained it like that maybe i would have respected him more and put more effort in. All i got when asking whats the point in learning this and how will it help me when im older, "I said do the work not ask questions". lol

EDIT: wish more teachers would address there students as adults instead of treating them like children. Never assume just because a person is young or a child that they see the world as a child, that is not always the case. Kids with High IQs tend to see the world as an adult and there for expect answers back as if they were an adult. ALOT of teachers need to learn this.

I'm much more concerned about his grammar than his math skills; he's at LEAST 6th grade (presumably) and should know your/you're and their/there/they're, much less punctuation and whatnot.

I know Joel does the your/you're bit but he's independently wealthy so can get away with it.

HEY im 33 and i dont know how to properly use their, there...whatever, so i use "there" for every case lol but then again i dropped out int he 5th grade and spelling sure as hell did suffer for it. Reading my posts must drive you crazy =P (laughing) :)

Does anyone know which minerals spawn in which biome?
So far I've seen;

Desert - oil shale and lead

Forest - lead and iron

I'm assuming coal spawns in the burned forest and potassium nitrate in the snow. Or do they occure somewhere else as well?

Thanks!
That's where the journal comes in. Check under mining. I have to go back now and then to make sure.

They aren't worthless. The crafting discount is good and I'm still brainstorming fleshing them all out to be nice. Plus there is no guarantee you will get that schematic, the ones you find might be working or have other loot in them. But at least its a good chance now or you have an action you can take instead of loot 5000 book cases to get what you want.
Wait, what crafting discount?
