Because they end at midnight, maybe 1am? We're on top of a bakery, we usually find them hitting random stuff on the bottom but they're easy to pick off from the roof as we see them spawn not too far away... pop, pop, pop, a few make it under. <shrug>
We* is the key. By yourself? yea horde night is going to take awhile.

Also, your own server? did you spanw ANYTHING in? (that you won't tell us?)

I spent day 7 panicing, so i made 100 wood spikes in the midle of a lake and nerd poled and used 200 7.62 on a rifle and still had my tower fall.

Sure when you have people to do stuff? yea horde nights are easy AF. I had 4 people. 2 would go loot/quest, one would mine and one would use all teh mats and build stuff. by horde night it was too easy to defend.

People need to make straight what they actually do for horde night. 1 person = its hard 3+=wayyyyy to easy.....

I'm sure he'll take offense, but he's not very good? There's a finite count of zombies, and if you just let them in while you run around going into your chests, instead of having your "horde backpack" prepped, like he does, you're pretty much fighting the same zombies for a longer time... but if you're prepared, they're pretty easy to get to the limit quickly.
I'd really love to see a return of "non-stop until 4am" zombies, because it would not change a newbies game (maxAlive is maxAlive), but it would certainly give people with some experience in the game something to do for the other 2/3rd's of the night.

Mind you, this is all straight vanilla because I really believe in getting that experience before modding.
Sounds more like a need to balance multiplayer more so than reducing ammo loot.

You forgot switching off distant terrain!

@ Fataal

I noticed that the shader errors in console (Radeon) stop as soon as one disables distant terrain
In testing on a GTX 960, I never found the console warnings to make any difference to performance. They seem harmless. But you may have something else on AMD.

Yesterday is the key word. That crap is fixed. People need to earn their farms one gore pile, vulture or zombie dog at a time.
Darn I was wondering if that was going to change, so expensive to make, it took me days to get a few plots going. Then I dug up a plot (was trying to get dirt) and saw they could be obtained with a shovel. I figured it wasn’t intended, as the cost of creating was so high - but one POI Later I had 50 plots - the barrier now is getting enough seeds to make it work, which I thought was okay and fun, plus made me spend points in living off the land.

Sad to see this change, as I really like farming and the cost makes it challenging to get to a fun level of play, especially high cost of plots plus challenge of acquiring an ohhh The seeds/perks. I am on day 14 and have enough looted food to last me a long time, and many many more places to raid. Which makes me question the farming cost as it is more of a “fun” thing and not a required piece of gameplay. Could living off the land also drive farm plots cost less expensive as well?

I will keep my fingers crossed this is adjusted later. I know there are much bigger things in your plates a than growing potatoes :-) Love A18 so far, so no complaints... Just feedback from someone that enjoys the farming aspect of this game.

Its way more fun than 17 was. I was quite upset at how 17 went, and I was a bit rude to Joel and Roland and others. !7 was a big adjustment and one I just could not sink my teeth into after years of Alphas I had loved. Im noticing the rage on zombies is a pleasant addition to difficulty. So even though there is (sadly) less zombies overall each encounter can be deadly. Mind you this is early game. I've had 2 plays so far. My first was to day 14 and we had one horde night. It was a day 7. My wife died early on (around 2350) and respawned in our basement. Unfortunately she did not get back outside fast enough and i killed the last zombie before they could sense her.
For some reason our horde night ended right there. It was majorly disappointing. As was our second. I may need to crank difficulty though. Of course, I am not the target 7 days player as you probably suspect because I love things much harder so I wont hold the vanilla game at fault for this.

My only two complaints are crafting and loot. I know MM wants to move away from things being craft dependant so i kind of expected this. But crafting is just.... not required except for MAYBE food and even then you want canned food. I miss crafting mats and tools. Now i just find them right away. Which is my other bone of contention. Loot seems (to me again not the average player mind you) a bit high. Sure you get low quality stuff but the stats can be very good and "so far" i have not had a need for mods. Again early game. The scavenging game is strong. Pois are amazing i feel. The overall tone of the alpha is spot on.

Overall though I am enjoying it. I will continue to enjoy vanilla for quite a bit more time before most likely doing my thing and making loot rarer etc. But I LOVE the long game. I can easily go to day 600 and still not get bored but that is 100 percent NOT what MM and TFP are targeting. So i slow down XP a bit, I lower loot a bit. But that by no means is meant to infer that this Alpha is not good. It is, Im just a VERY picky player.

I must say the books and schematics are my most favorite part. I find myself ALWAYS looking for them, even if just to complete them. Its a fun thing to collect and the bonuses are quite nice. Im so happy they added them in. JUST buying perks got boring in 17. This adds spice.

In summary, I am a Pimps Believer again. And I am also a modder. And as a modder Im extremely excited for the tools they have given us. As a player I look forward to seeing these new systems expanded and added to.
Totally agree with the crafting not being required. That's why I'm hoping its possible to get something like my suggestion to tie in repairs to your crafting skill or if it can be modded - https://7daystodie.com/forums/showthread.php?128416-Tie-in-repairs-of-items-to-crafting-skills

I think its logical in that if you can't craft an item of a certain quality, then why should you be able to repair it well?

Sounds like A18 isn't balanced for MP yet. Try playing SP and tell us what you think.

I think that's a pretty smart idea; it'd give you a reason to use crafted items and give you a time limit on using your high-tier looted gear, while not obsoleting the looting in the first place. It'd provide some nice risk/reward thinking about saving or using your rad loot. With how incredibly easy it is to make repair kits now, it'd help prevent how things are now where you can just get a lucky loot roll and coast on that all-game.

No, I played SP as well. Same results, sorry.

It also means if someone specs into high crafting then you can go to him to repair your gear and makes crafters in demand. He can make a living in a MP server just repairing tools, weapons and armor for people.

On my day 14 horde in single player it was non stop zombies till 4 am, day 7 it slowed down a lot around 1 but yeah i swear I was being overrun

@madmole I must say, these new ore textures are simply gorgeous. :) My personal favorite is lead.

what difficulty etc? idk ive have bad rng my 2 maps. I buy the forge perk what happens? i find the schematic.

See you also go into a poi for horde night or whatever. i say ♥♥♥♥ it and run around like a lil piggy:P

Well wouldn't the opposite be true? We're all flush in ammo looting the same poi's...
Not really. The fact that multiple people can take on those POIs. I’m not saying your point isn’t valid. I’m sure it is... in MP.

You say you’ve played SP, but you are also playing enough MP to make these observations. There hasn’t been enough time for you to make conclusions about the ammo loot in SP.

Not saying the system is right or wrong, just pointing out I can see why they extrapolated it this way as a game mechanic.Whilst I agree fresh food, well prepared in a clean/safe environment is the best in real life.

After all this is set in a post apocalyptic environment, contaminated soil, air, water with mutated beings and the recent dead walking around.

In real life 3rd world countries people deal with these food and water issues everyday, so the game mechanics seem to reflect reality, whilst remaining simple and playable.

Personally I'm loving A18 from a game play stand point.
This. It fits the apocalyptic theme and is good game play.

Checking the forums every 5 minutes for the update. Starting to get a lil salty.
https://steamdb.info/app/251570/depots/

Check that for updates. It will say how long ago experimental rlease was (4 days atm) it'll change to minutes hours etc when an update releases

Interesting enough it says 17.4 was last updated 4 months ago. :p

And says 17k people are playing atm LOL nice

The recipe alone is not enough.
Let's say you find the recipe for a vegetable stew. To cook it you need 2 potatoes, 2 corn and 2 mushrooms for each vegetable stew.

You have to find enough of the ingredients or create a garden. To unlock the seeds for corn, potatoes and mushrooms you need to be at least level 3 in Living of the Land which requires level 5 in Fortitude. Or you have to find the schematics for all 3 ingredients to be able to produce the seeds. Or you have to find the seeds.

Either way it's an effort. On the other hand, you only have to buy the canned food from the vending machine. People tend to follow the path of least resistance. As long as they have enough coins they will buy the food from the vending machine because there is no food poisoning.

As long as the players are not forced to create a garden, many players will simply stay on canned food. And since the vending machines fill up again and again, you have an infinite supply.
Choice is good. I'm tight with my money so I avoid buying food so I have enough money when that sweet motorbike or its parts show up at a trader.
