Im led to think that TFP may not be interested in farming BUT what if farmed foods offered no chance at poisoning. It would make sense since you are planting fresh vegetation and preparing the ground etc. Meat makes sense but veggies kind of do not.
It could put a greater emphasis on farming. And give people a renewable alternative to canned food?
Since food poisoning just makes you lose food, farming already has a huge incentive. Once you get a farm going you have more food than you can ever use. The farm lets you ignore food poisoning because you have plenty of food to keep eating after you get it.

So when a nuclear bomb goes off and the radiati9n floats to the ...... where does it go... does it go oh I not allowed on the ground and stay air borne lol.
Ofc it goes on the ground and radiates it making it uneatable or at least you get poisoned by what you grow and eat from it. This system makes total sense and 100% see what tfp are doing.
Now that´s just silly. Trying to justify food poisoning with radiation. Food poisoning is a microbial hazard, while radiation is a chemical one. Until radiation is in and we see acute radiation syndrome from exposed food, your stance is a non-sequitur.

I love how people selectively choose when realism rules apply. Its quite humorous. Since anyone can use it whenever they wish to state their point is correct, and then go and turn around and say it would not work because its just a game.
Like you get mad because zombies are supposed to be dumb and its just not realistic they would know where you are, then we can say the idea of farming being safe would not work because MUH REALISM.

I was just trying to throw people a bone in this debate. Personally i love the way it is now. And farming is STILL too easy. Prove me wrong.
But that makes complete sense. Gameplay>realism, so if something realistic directly clashes with gameplay, it gets removed. If something is realistic and fits with intended gameplay, it's a win-win. The new food poisoning is a good mechanic.

Your idea of farmed foods having no food poisoning chance did sound nice to me at first, but I think it's better for food poisoning to stay, so you can't just live off every time off farmed food.

really? you post an insomnia food safety video?
I cook from scratch and hunt and prep field game/fish and have consumed resources that I have had to process/prep/purify in the wild.

no more sleepy videos :)

Define Higher tier food? is stew not higher tier? or is canned food the higher tier?

homemade stew that has been cooked properly will be just as good or better than a can of chemically preserved food.
The game effect has nothing to do with the food being improperly cooked. The toxins are inherit in all plants and animals. Canned food is safe because it was made pre-war.

i want CAN OF MIX

a mix of pasta , sham , stock and salmon!

Boiled water and cooked food can make you sick because you're consuming zombie pathogens, my dudes. What is dead may never die. If you want to defeat the amoebic horde you must pay the iron price.

So the "reward" for setting up a farm is getting food poisoning , while the "reward" for using the vending machine is

healthy food?

Sounds like it is vending machine survival for me once i get enough time to play A18 properly.

It doesn't even have to be radiation. This is a fictional apocalypse. Can be magic or some kind of parasite or chemical. The only limit is your imagination.

Food is not that much of an issue at all. However, this is the first time I have felt compelled to farm at all.

The reason is red and goldenrod tea. I'm on day 7 in my current game and have over 100 red teas already brewed... but I have pretty much wiped out the population within a reasonable radius of my base and I don't want to struggle with it next week.

I always thought coffee and aloe would be worth farming but I just never did it. So, I'll be growing a bit of that too.
Coffee boosts your damage against ore and you can stack 3 for about 9 minutes of non stop ass kicking mining.

...funny, but still not how radiation works. =)
But it is how crop dusting with pesticides works. And crops dusted with irradiated rabbit urine probably wouldn’t lead to stronger bones... :)

Okay, so are we finally past the "wow and wonderment look at a18 and how pretty it is" stage to talk about some glaring issues?

...it's boring.

Sorry MM, I know you think you're great at this game, but the fact remains that as long as you dumb down the game to meet your skill level because you think xyz is too hard, you're ostracizing the rest of us.

Threats are few and far between, going into poi's is even a yawn fest, blood moons end at midnight and there is no depth.

Yes it's prettier, the sun is brighter, the sky is darker, the weapons are shinier, blah blah blah, but the game itself, although MUCH more polished than previous versions (lots of placeholders replaced), it ends at about day 28.

I predict:

I will be shut down quickly because I'm probably posting this prematurely, and all of the people who eagerly awaited a18 will still be fawning over it, but in a month or so others will share my sentiment

Meat stew is definitely a higher tier than corn bread.

To get the same food amount corn bread has 12.5 times the chance of food poisoning so meat stew is vastly better.

I'm playing on pregen01.
Not sure if it matters but I’ve been playing on a map I created about 3 weeks ago and have had no problems whatsoever. But I also don’t play on highest settings by a long shot.

I just had my first 7th day horde in A18. I thought we got rid of A17 master engineer zombies? After a couple of random hit on my walls. All the zed huddle around 1 section of my wall and chew a 1x2x2 hole through my 2 layers wall and ate me. They completely ignore me attacking and trying to kite them to a different area. I check and beside the B line 4 blocks they break to get to me, they barely damage about 5 other blocks (from the beginning) in my 20x20 wall.
Did anyone else got this or am I just somehow unlucky? I really don't want to cheese the game with pathing exploit.
You can try, but it won't work for long. I like it how it is, kiting them around should only works if there is an actual path.

I died because I honestly wasn't expecting a17.4 engineer zombies again plus that was the first 7th day so I didn't expect much and only got a double layer wall up. Gonna have to check this out in my test world. The reason I hate "smart" zombie is I can set it up and it become duck hunt. In fact I've already made a drop trap in my test world (because they're fun to mess with).
Without cheesing you would have lived if you had an upper floor you can retreat to. To get into a bunker they only have to destroy ONE wall segment, to get you to fall from the top of the bunker they have to destroy nearly ALL wall segments. Easy math, no cheese.

Generally without AI that beats on weak points zombies don't have a chance at all. That was the situation in alphas before A17 where you could basically build anything and it would suffice if it had just enough HPs.

Vending machines cost dukes and usually are far away.

Farm plots are near your home, give you food regularly with no extra dukes or work required, and if you vomit, just eat more of the food you just farmed.

I'm not sure if it wasn't answered already but is it safe to play now or we are going to get next experimental later today?
