I have a 1080TI and the game is unplayable with full rez textures (even with every other setting on low). There's something funky with them that's causing large performance issues. I'll get fps in the 50s but there's a quarter to half second delay on movements/looking around. Almost feels like mouse acceleration or vsync or something but those aren't on.
Are you using some older Nvidia drivers, by chance? I ask because I tested out a huge assortment of drivers last night and found that a lot of the 399's and early 4's would cause EXACTLY what you described..

If so..update the driver and it will fix that input delay.

i can only play on mid settings. for a17 and trying to get it to work with A18

Well.. In my case there's no improvement over A17. It's not worse than A17, there's that, but it's definitely not better.
Agreed, not worse, but A18 experimental = A17.4.

I hope A18 stable will go better.

On the latest. 436.48

@MADMOLE I am loving a18 thank you so much for releasing this beauty of a game it is truly marvellous
i Love A18 too

my only problem is the FPS so i have to play on potato mode to play.

but im sure they will get that fixed up really soon

Snow biome is meant to be a more difficult biome due to the wildlife. It isn’t a mistake or an imbalance that you could get killed on day 1 or 2 by a cougar, bear, or wolf. The mistake is entering the snow biome before you are ready and then not going slowly and carefully to be able to give those animals a wide berth when you see them before they see you.
I really think that you should know, if you enter a predator's territory. They will see you before you see them.

@ everyone with a Radeon card:

Try editing your serverconfig.xml section World.

Insert your World size and Seed like this (replace it with your wishes)

<property name="GameWorld" value="RWG"/>

<property name="WorldGenSeed" value="NCC-1701A"/>

<property name="WorldGenSize" value="10240"/>

<property name="GameName" value="JamesKirk"/>

<property name="GameMode" value="GameModeSurvival"/>

Then start 'startdedicated.bat'

Don't worry, it takes really long (this seed&size 50min on an i7-8700k/16GB with Radeon RX480/8GB) !

I got a playable world with smooth surface and no tall ridges (like a combed landscape).

Stop the server, and restart a normal game.

That's it

Yesterday I wondered why it took only 5:28min to generate a 8k map. With every 2nd row missing, it was only half the time ;-)

EDIT: Forgot line with seed
So your hypothesis is that the dedicated server bypasses the GPU when creating the world?

Hm, neat.

No way. A Javelin build is completely OP, but very fun. The slight problem of finding a spear (don't throw the modded one or don't miss) is the only balance to it right now.
With 4-5 Javelins on my belt, I throw all but one then finish whats left (if anything) with my good Javelin. Easy-Peasy.
Just because you are having some moderate success doesn't make it OP. Wait to melee a group of ferals. I can have great success with any weapon.

The shape selector is great. A mighty fine addition.
Is there any chance of adding "Copy Shape" in the radial menu and have it work just like "Copy Rotation"?

Already saving tons of time and there is far less frustration... this would top off the feature superbly.

(When it is possible to do so with the material you are holding that is. Maybe that little erh erh sound when it isn't available)
There is copy shape but I think it only appears on the same material block, until we get them unified with some changes this limitation will exist.

EDIT: I'm not 100% on this but noticed it disappear before.

Hmm. What CPU and resolution are you playing at? 2560 x 1440 and 7700K for me.
Other games I never have to worry about textures due to the GPU's massive amount of memory, so I was surprised when this was the culprit of poor performance. Just setting them to half textures nearly doubles my performance.
CPU : a humble i7 2600k

RES : 1920 x 1080

GPU set to optimal power performance and do not have anything else running apart from the game/steam and Logitech app for keyboard.

Last night I had no issues, later after work today hopefully I won’t be cursed and it will be the same all singing and dancing as before.

I have the latest driver revision too if that makes any difference which I don’t think it does in the slightest.

exactly the same feeling with 1070. I switched off distant terrain, and looked on an empty hill. I got 19 FPS with nothing on the screen but an empty hill. In the town with zombies i got 60 FPS.

So to be clear, Alabaster's point was that he was meeting feral/rager zombies (the glowing eye'd zed's) on day 2 - and you are OK with this?
So far, I'm four for four game starts meeting ferals on day 2 in the AM. They've usually been wandering around my location from the night before.

I'm also four for four games where I've had a pack of dogs home in on my location, on Day 2 in the afternoon.

I don't think that falls within the definition of "low chance." :)

Yes I'm totally fine with it. Hide in your base until they die at noon ish, out run them, kill them etc. We might kill them off sooner, but a little wariness is what the doctor ordered in this game IMO.

Wandering hordes are random, so it can be dogs, a horde, etc.

So I am stuck with low FPS ? or is there any work around? I will try to reinstall game though.
Best Buy? Seriously we're working on it, you will need to be patient or keep trying things.

MadMole, remember what I said months ago when it seemed A18 would be harder. Don’t let the vocal whiners convince you to nerf the difficulty in everything, please :)

Yeah. At this point there's nothing more I/we can test as far as this performance problem, until someone can give us a list to run off specific rendering options using the gfx command.

At this point, if i were a dev, i'd be looking at what are you making the GPU do in every other biome than the city biome, that you are making it do in the wilderness biomes.
