I agree. Without playing it mind you, yet. But just watching the throw spear, retrieving, throwing again so quickly just looks.....idk just looks weird to me.
Any ideas on your first play though on A18? Character build, strategies, forts? SP? MP?

Hey Joel, I was talking to some friends and we were wandering why can't we get wheels from cars when wrenched. It wouldn't be alot, just a small percentage of posibilty to drop.
Wheels are the weirdest thing in the game... There's about a billion of then lying around, that you can't use because they turn to plastic, but you can make one from scratch with plastic, coal and acid? Doesn't make any kind of sense... It's like they forced wheels into a 7day world with no additional items...

A pickup, repair situation would have been much better. Find/craft tire patches, add an air compressor station (be no more useless than a table saw)...

JIn relation to this... I REALLY miss Hub City from A15 and earlier.

I see TFP's point that they don't want a guaranteed city at 0,0 but I really, really miss knowing I can go to 0,0 and there will be a deadly wasteland, with a huge city FULL of ferals roaming the streets.

Cities really need more roamers.
It was something of an "later game" you had to prepare to go into the hub city and you knew city was packed with bad things^^ I wish there was a version of a big fallout city in the center where you go after you prepare in surrounding towns - ofc for some nice rewards. Big city with lots of tall buildings packed with lots of population is needed :)

P.S. I really like what you did with the wasteland in DF ;)

@Fataal: PLEASE tell me that the vehicle run/speed toggle was finally fixed. (It worked in a16 I think.)
If not, use a controller, set to night, and try to outrun vultures and zombies at night on a bicycle for 10 minutes.

The thumb cramps are REAL, and hearing your controller stick grinding isn't a sound I like to hear.

Hell, I'd be happy to wait for a18 longer if it was added to mf bugs, because its not something we can fix with a mod, and as it is it sucks the joy out of driving vehicles.
Ya know, you *could* make that switch from boy to man and use a keyboard and mouse... :)

/Gonna get you to switch one day

funny you should ask... i had a few (local residents) invite me to a community outdoor bbq and they displayed proper courtesy and etiquette towards me... we established a good love-hate relationship. they managed to show me that my old ways of thinking needed some improvements and since then... i will never underestimate them again.
of course not everyone will meet such a social-able crowd as i did so you may have to check out your neighbors on your own. good luck :yield:
lol.

you will most likely change your mind when you get a18 and try it for yourself with a few zombies. :)
I didn’t. I still thrust 90% and throw 10% because that just feels right to me. I don’t care that spamming the throw/retrieval might be more efficient. It seems like casting a magic spell.

It never even occurred to me to use the spear that way until I saw it on Prime’s stream and my reaction was a most definite....WTF.

I tried it and hated it. I love the spear but I use the throw as a finishing move after softening them up with some jabs (which have a nice reach btw). But I’m weird in the sense that it doesn’t bother me that a more efficient way is a way I don’t like to play and I don’t feel compelled to choose efficiency over fun. There are those who will hate it and still play it that way because efficiency is king in their world.

Tldr if you don’t like it don’t do it. I don’t and the game plays great and spears are still one of my favorite additions.

How about a Bungee Perk or a Spear Gun Weapon so you don't have to chase it down...

There have been Spear or Sword weapons that have had this kind of thrust attack where it leaves your hand & returns to hand...

That's why I wanted a Sheath to hold Spears on the vehicles so you don't have to chase them down, they didn't jump off the Chariot to chase Spears, they threw another. Some Spears should be as abundant as Arrows & specialty Spears should be singular...

KRAKEN

I think you can add Bungee to the Hospital Loot as it is used in therapy clinics. You can Forge an attachment for the Spear & wrist to tie the Bungee to, no more chasing it down if you don't want to.

They kept the table saw in A18? I hope not, even though it is an item/workstation that kinda make sense. It is somewhat counterinutive that what we would use to build with wood , starter material once upon a time, requires perking.

As for the wheels, rubber do decay over (a long) time, so it's not totally unrealistic. But, it gave me the idea, which i hope they add to A19, and that is tow carts, or make the shopping carts useable for portable storage.

A little question :Is there any plans to have an option to remove traders from the map ? To be honest, I'd rather not have the opportunity to buy books and mods from the merchants.

Or - damn it's 2 questions - is it possible to change the stock of the merchants in xml (never took the time to have a look) ?

(sorry for my accent)
Quoting myself in public is a little odd, but I wanted to say I finally had a look into the xml files : traders.xml is easy to modify and items.xml allow us to change the value of all the items, so hell yeah, it's all good for me :)

I doubt the saw is in a18 with the new shape menu thingie, but it's not even so much that I expect tires to be functional if found, it's more that the recipe is REALLY weird, and could be better.

...no one finds it odd that the biggest hold up go getting vehicles is acid for wheels?

Everything about "more zombie" has one answer.. performance ...
Aaaand a second answer probably: A city roaming with zombies would be "clashing" with the quest system, at least for beginners playing vanilla early game.

So I think the solution (for vanilla without encounter system) should be that lots of zombies in the streets should be confined to wasteland cities

And the encounter system is really a solution to performance problems, think about it:

2) You might enter a wasteland city without a hitch three times in a row but on the fourth time you round a corner and all hell breaks loose with a momentary zombie horde surrounding you. Like many of you have been saying (about the inside of POIs), a constant density of zombies is boring in the long run, spikes of danger when you least expect it is soo much better.

2) The server can create big groups of zombies for each player and still keep the workload constant at all times. Because the server can just refrain from starting more encounters until previous running encounters are finished. Load-balancing by focusing on a small subset of players and switching focus randomly around.

Let's hope so, and it's not just another mysteriously appearing horde.

There's something to be said for "I want to hit that shotgun messiah, but there are a few dozen zombies and dogs surrounding it".

I'm 99% sure its coming Friday the 4th to Streamers. The 9 MF's I see look like they could be known shippables, and I have one I can fix in 10 minutes.
oooooo I like this news very much

- - - Updated - - -

It just needs one line of code to fix it.
@madmole I noticed in your video of that big house and some of the cabinets that are usually searchable aren't is that a bug?

this isn't a reply from the original post its just something I thought I should mention

Do you actually know which chemicals allow you to recycle/refurbish rubber and if it even is possible? I don't. Sometimes ignorance really is bliss.

Rename it to "Chemicals" and only real chemists will blink an eye.

Agree. I don't think the encounter system will be easy to do in rural areas, but in cities there is always enough corners.

An important reasons cities in A15 were more dangerous though was the higher density of buildings (at least I remember it higher) and that probably won't come back.

Please please early enough so that even Europe gets to see some streams on Friday evening. My birthday+release party depends on this.
