I just shredded a tier 4 with mostly my spear in that video. Granted I missed the basement I guess but tier 4's don't all take a long time. I like fetch because you aren't tied there until X is killed, get the bag and get what you feel like getting, and get out. The reward isn't as nice, but sometimes finding that last volume of guys to kill is a pain in the ass.
Yeah, I get that. Last week I was sent to do a fetch quest at the Shotgun Messiah Factory, and I said to myself, "Let's get this over with." I had little intention in clearing the entire POI that day, and luckily for me, I didn't have to. The satchel was right in the entrance way to the left; I finished the quest in under half a minute, and I zoomed right back to the trader to claim my reward. The joys of fetch quests sometimes. :)

Its already balanced. It takes a ton more stamina to throw, has to be fully charged to do max damage throwing, and you risk losing it throwing. And BS, I studied martial arts, force is force. I don't need two meters of air time to shove a spear through your head. Once the hips thrust and torso twists, its game over the power is already generated and I don't need 2 meters of flight for that. :)
Well... The second it leaves your hand it loses a lot of force... The impact itself is now only as forceful as the mass and acceleration allow for, whereas if it was still in your hands as a thrust, you'd have your own continued exertion as force and of course your friction and a few other factors adding to it ...

But who cares, throwing it is cooler. :)

No.
We are talking about throwing the spear, not sinking it with your hands into the enemy's body. Those are 2 completely different things. The spear only will hit the target, not the spear connected to your body. Once the spear has left your hand, the only variable that matters is the speed it is travelling at.

2 meters is to account for the length of the spear + the length of your extended arm. It is not 2 meters of flight, as you wrote. Sure enough, as air time increases, spear's speed decreses, thanks to air resistance. So flight is actually undesirable. And yes, you need to fully extend your arm to transmit maximum speed to the spear (look at javelin throw at the olympics for example).

I believe you are not picturing this correctly. "Once the hips thrust and torso twists..." ahah BS, show me how fast you can throw a spear just with your hips and torso without extending your arm. I bet you a skinny kid would throw it farther just by using his arm.
Not quite sure what the issue is. You release the spear as your hand comes right past your head not at full extension. You only full extend your arm as follow through so you don't lose power at initial release. You can throw that spear literally into anything immediately in front of you.

Regarding the spears and the throw as a power attack.

Physics will dictate that a held spear should do more damage than the thrown spear.

However, when having the spear in your hand, you wouldn't want to give it too much force.... enough to pierce, twist for some extra damage, but not to where the head of the spear entirely enters the body. With a knife, you can easily stab the whole thing in and still pull it out easily. A spear, you cannot. The last think you want to happen is getting the head stuck in a zombie while in a close encounter.

With this in mind, I think the damage from the throw would and should be more than in hand.

I partially read this and then made up the rest of what you said in my mind, and therefore I take it that you are saying there is going to be a martial arts/unarmed perk line in which I will be able to do dropkicks. np.
I'd like to do a set of books on brawling that enhance the brawler build.

Being able to instantly grab the spear or even arrows for that matter is a pretty goofy mechanic. Throwing your spear should be a last resort or coup de grace, not an instant reload. Add a timer to it based on strength.

it's not a dig at you or the game when people ask for more available paint textures. like you said, other games offer next to zero.
7days is extremely unique in many ways, and the ability to transform with simple paint impacts people that love to deco and build more than many understand. sometimes the most frustrating feeling is "why can't i paint that texture". we become junkies. we want more. :)
Unfortunately texture arrays in unity cannot stream, so the paintable wall textures eat a lot of texture memory, so we can't just keep adding new stuff until Unity fixes that.

Everytime i see you talk about what loot is going to be like puts a smile on my face. Alpha 17 was a let down because i had no reason to loot like i did in other alphas so i am over the moon you and concentrated on sorting that problem out.
Yep I'd say we wanted to make looting great again, but its more like it was never great, and now it finally is for the first time.

Why not both pickup and open?
I like the idea of collecting furniture but lifting every painting you see is going to fill your inventory. Not a major issue, it's simple enough to scrap or drop them, but it's an annoyance nonetheless.
For now we could do the can pickup = true like chairs then you just scrap them like I did all the chairs I collected.

I wonder if it is possible to throw the spear directly up and have it come back down and impale ones own head....

How the hell is a parade in bdu's hell? Didn't you do a 20 mile road march in full combat gear to get through basic training?
he is in ROTC not the military.

I really do no like the idea non military wearing the uniform in a parade...thats just not cool. In my opinion they have not earned the right to wear the uniform in public yet. what in the world are they doing in ROTC now days. ah ruck marches I miss those.

@Madmole:
The commentary less video was interesting. We heard more of the game sound changes and liked that, but we DID miss your commentary about balancing/development observations. A balance of both types of videos might be a good idea going forward.

We also liked the new stun animation.. I'm not sure I saw or noticed it before.

Question: Did you do a spreadsheet to work out balancing all the various builds, or did you wing it? Doing a spreadsheet of them might help in balancing, if you aren't already.

So with the perception build, do you just ignore stealth options because you don't have them?

Also, it looked like ao is back on inside buildings.. was that fixed in a18?
LOL no, that seems ridiculous. This is a video game why make it into work with spreadsheets? I grab what I want/need for my build at the time. Like if combat is getting hard I'll get the required ranks, then buy all the combat perks at the next rank. Yes I do not have any stealth perks at all. No armor perks with light armor so I'm fairly mobile, but will grab some ranks or mods as the come available (the mobility and armor defense mods). Actually I think in the video you saw I got the heavy plating mod, I'll be crafting 5 of those ASAP to buff my AR 10 full points.

Question about the spear: When you throw it and pick it back up, it looks like you're picking up more than one spear. Did you actually throw several spears before picking up, or is it just the popup mechanic stacking the pickups even if it was the same spear being picked up?
Just one spear.

I have a brother that lives in another state. We used to only chat on the phone every 2 or 3 months which was fine.

Then I convinced my brother about 2-3 years ago to buy 7D2D, ever since he got it we have bonded and became closer over the hundreds and hundreds of hours we have played together. Thank you for giving my brother and I something to bond over that has been lasting for years. :02.47-tranquillity:
You are welcome, I love hearing stories like this.

They don't wear rank. It's part of recruitment anyways.

Just watched your video of the loot run and it is really starting to look great.

But some things I noticed:

- I see there still sometimes is a delay of almost a second or more when opening loot or inventory, I see this in A17 as well where it is worse. Any chance this is a known issue and getting looked at?

- Why is the glass panel still in the loot lists, it should have been removed from there like in A14 or so, but it lingers on even to A18..

- You should instruct your level designers not to paint cabinets unless they are actually lootable or broken cabinet panels with loot behind them (yes I could hear the frustration on your keyboard :) ) Saves a lot of frustration when something that looks lootable actually is.

Thanks for the video :)
Hopefully can speed up inventory.

Why does the glass panel need to be removed? Is it just annoying junk to everyone?

Level design knows. We didn't always have the tech we have now with a "helper" cupboard block that is placed and randomly spawns as a cupboard open or closed, so a few legacy painted blocks need fixed. That one actually was a cupboard but it was rotated 90 by accident and an open one.
