Just watched your video of the loot run and it is really starting to look great.

But some things I noticed:

- I see there still sometimes is a delay of almost a second or more when opening loot or inventory, I see this in A17 as well where it is worse. Any chance this is a known issue and getting looked at?

- Why is the glass panel still in the loot lists, it should have been removed from there like in A14 or so, but it lingers on even to A18..

- You should instruct your level designers not to paint cabinets unless they are actually lootable or broken cabinet panels with loot behind them (yes I could hear the frustration on your keyboard :) ) Saves a lot of frustration when something that looks lootable actually is.

Also, it looked like ao is back on inside buildings.. was that fixed in a18?
The AO effect might be what you saw, which is separate from the AO block code, which is not enabled in A18.

That is an intentional cleanup process or the game will continue to use more memory over time. You would not want it running during combat, so it runs after about 20 mins when you open a UI screen.

 
question for everyone
do you rather build your own base? or move into a poi and upgrade it?
When playing with friends I have no choice but to live in an underground base. Normally I create my own base. A17 I switched up how I play and I only took over POI instead of building a fresh base. I prefer taking over large POIs and fortifing it now. How about you?

i mix it up

mostly i live in a poi and Reinforce it and may add some new rooms, and a bunker for storage.

live under ground by more "risky" making a entrance zombie zombies for me to fight kinda like a lobby area and add some traps

or make my own base. with a castle like walls out of scrap or rock

No. There is no simple code fix for that. Spawn points do not have a history of you saw inside it a moment ago, so I can't spawn there now, nor do they check when you are outside a sleeper volume. Spawn visibility checks are not cheap, so they are done over time and only when you get near a sleeper volume. Possibly when you damage inside the volume it could spawn. Designers could move up the top of the volume or maybe group it with the up stairs, but sometimes that leads of other behaviors they don't want.

steam is fine for me. but there are lots of reports, over 33,000 reports in the past hour or so.

Have you tried opening a copy of the POI up in the prefab editor to see what the sleeper volume looks like? It might be a simple fix of just expanding the volume a little larger so that it can trigger at the top of that staircase.

 
And BS, I studied martial arts, force is force. I don't need two meters of air time to shove a spear through your head. Once the hips thrust and torso twists, its game over the power is already generated and I don't need 2 meters of flight for that. :)

We are talking about throwing the spear, not sinking it with your hands into the enemy's body. Those are 2 completely different things. The spear only will hit the target, not the spear connected to your body. Once the spear has left your hand, the only variable that matters is the speed it is travelling at.

2 meters is to account for the length of the spear + the length of your extended arm. It is not 2 meters of flight, as you wrote. Sure enough, as air time increases, spear's speed decreses, thanks to air resistance. So flight is actually undesirable. And yes, you need to fully extend your arm to transfer maximum speed to the spear (look at javelin throw at the olympics for example).

I believe you are not picturing this correctly. "Once the hips thrust and torso twists..." ahah BS, show me how fast you can throw a spear just with your hips and torso without extending your arm. I bet you a skinny kid would throw it farther just by using his arm.

That sounds like a good solution.

What about detecting something like a bullet or arrow entering a loaded volume? It might be some extra milliseconds of time before an armoire door breaks.

I mix it up. I like POIs for more of a role-playing feel, but building from scratch allows me to have a more efficient design.

 
Yes, I enjoy working around a situation, saving my perks for must haves instead of nice to have. Like at level 40 I finally found stew recipe, until then I lived strictly off of boiled meat and occasional fish taco when I found cornmeal and salmon. The nice thing about boiled meat is you don't really need to take water with you so it frees a slot at the cost of a jar. I don't have a shortage of jars though, every toilet keeps my murky water and jar supply huge.
Speaking of finding stuff, I see you finally got a Marksman Rifle. ^^ What's the story behind that find?
