Listen, I thought the original zombie lore depicted them as a slow stupid shamblers, okay, I was wrong, I didn't know they could be smart, run or anything else, okay? I was WRONG and I admitted it, but I still don't like "smart zombies" avoiding traps. So I didn't change my direction even a bit.

No, it's just me criticizing the game in a civil manner without hammering down everything, I bought the game and I have a right to agree or disagree with the direction the game is taking. Since when I can't open my mouth and say my opinion? Is that called a lack of attention? When A17 came out, people were SOOOO BUTTHURT about not being able to loot zombies but I didn't care, didn't affect me. So you got people complaining about a feature. I am also "complaining" about a feature, which is smart zombies. So please, go back to sleep, it's late and tomorrow you got school.
They aren't smart though. If I build a solid wall of traps around me, guess what? They walk into them. If there is an easier path, they are going to take the path of least resistance, that isn't smart, that is cockroach level pathing.

With railings, it seems they bumb into the railing, decide they've hit an "invisible" block and start attacking it. Since they're standing on top of the block they collided with, they start "attacking down", ie digging. Heavy guesswork though, not exactly an AI expert here.
faatal, since you're here spilling some beans, do you have any hopes getting those "AI-invisible" blocks into a properly pathable condition? Walking on horisontal poles, knowing if you can fit between "half-blocks as a wall" etc? With the variety of shapes in game, it's a tall order, but it just allows so much cheese it's not even funny. Or well, it's still damn funny, but anyway :)
Generally when they bump into railing, it is sideways and they attack or jump it. Digging is separate logic, that just says they can't path to you and you are below, so they dig. It triggers in some cases where I would rather it didn't. Needs research.

Partial blocks will probably always be an issue with the current tech. Block data really could use better info on what they contain (like sub voxels) and getting it quickly in the rotated state.

The problem with the demolisher is that according to the current description it can only be safely killed in one way. You trigger the explosion before it reaches the base. This is not an option with my current base because I can only see the zombie if it is already in the base.
That's not accurate. The demolisher can be killed by normal methods, shoot him anywhere. He ONLY blows up if you shoot the bomb on his chest.

I'm not hiding anything, I'm playing the game not looking at it from a microscope and dissecting it to find reasons to hate on it. I think you need to watch a lot of zombie movies, you have some strange impressions on what they should or shouldn't be and if they aren't matching some specific lore in your brain you rant about it? We're making fun AI that has a lot of interesting potential, if you think A14 AI is better your nuts. They spun circles and were no threat at all. I could survive a day 900 horde with a stone shovel. How much fun is that?
You make zero sense, reading your later post you complain that it needs bandits to be interesting, 14 was great (no explanation) but the 17 AI is too ____ (hard? unbelievable because of zombie movie x? no real explanation) for you? You can't make an argument is your problem. I'm fine with criticism, but all you do is complain and take 20 paragraphs to express that something bothers you yet that something remains a mystery.. You get angry because I hype the game up? Newsflash lots of people will hate alpha x and lots of people will love alpha x. Generally speaking each alpha is better than the last. I can assure you 99.9% will agree with me that 18 is much better than 17.
To be honest i personally like the smarter zombies! Because you have to think about your traps and think smarter not harder when i played on console (witch i cant tell what alpha it would have been so) but the zombies were as dumb as rocks and all you needed was a big box and a ton of spikes. now theirs more traps and the zombies are smart enough for basic strategy " go to the weakest blocks and eat person" but you have to out smart them. and another thing is it keeps you on your toes. now if there was like zombies with different movements like climbing , better jumping , donging etc then it would make hordes even scarier. im not saying that the Zombies AI is perfect it has its Bugs but i think its the best out of all of them. this is my opinion

Yep still catching up, and may have ignited the thread again, but hopefully not lol.
yeah we just had a "civil discussion" but we made up at the end lol

I have another question: in a future update when we mine ores and resources etc will it ever have an option to respawn like the loot does?I don't think I have seen this discussed anywhere
Maybe, we've talked about resetting unvisited chunks after a while as an OPTION.

@Madmole
Nice design for defensive windows. I plan on stealing it for a future build. ;)

Thanks, if I could put a bar on an angle (maybe you can) I'd replace that block next to the door too so I could get even closer.

actually that reminded me of a idea i had which was about cop zombies and it was that if you shot them in the gut Enough his gut would pop and he cant explode or Vomit but the gut is classed as "ARMOR"

the problem is for some players like I think he is. they want to play as if they are living in it, and find ways to outsmart or avoid the hordes. so to them, not fighting the horde because they made a safe place is part of the game to them
You can avoid them digging to your base now by giving up 20% xp. Go die, respawn underground and they will leave you alone the rest of the night.

You can angle the "center" bars. Bring the door in one meter and replace the block by the door with an angled center bar. Could be interesting. I like shooting down on their heads for the quick kill from Bars above the door.

I also have it so the only ones that can see me are the guys at the door (and the bugged out cops that can see and puke through meters of concrete sometimes).

I agree with everything you are saying here, but sir, if i may.

*cough* VIDEO *cough*

@Madmole can you answer whether the mode "dead means dead", which was previously promised, will be added? Now I have to delete the save after the first death, and start a new game, but I would like it easier
