16.01. Find a hoe

2. Find or make fertilizer

3. Use hoe to change to farm soil

4. Plant seed

5. Wait to grow

6. Harvest

18.0

1. Craft Planter

2. Place Planter

3. Plant seed

4. Wait to grow

5. Harvest

See where it’s less complex?

I can use the same argument. If I go back further, there would be at least two more steps.

Your forgetting the immersion aspect and the fact that you plant without making a box first. Those are the important parts.

Cheers,

Loc
I'm not arguing that 16 was more complex because it was. When comparing it to 17.4 it is actually making it more of a challenge when you look at the ingredients required.

I'm glad they're adding fertilizer back. The hoe isn't really necessary. I've built gardens in real life. I dig up some earth with a shovel. Build a box around it. Place a protective cover on the bottom. Add soil and fertilizer. Plant seeds. I have never owned a hoe.

edit: I would like to add that I would still like to see a non-planter version you can place in/on the ground to blend in so it looks exactly like the current farm blocks. Soil and fertilizer mixed together minus the wood.

Yeah I gotta keep my mouth shut... but hey time has flown the last day :)
Don't do that. The forum was never more boring until you mentioned those issues. Lol.

And we're still friends. Just friends that have a different opinion about something, which makes friendships interesting.

The easiest way to add smell back into the game would be to tie it into the heat map system. Aka bunch of raw or cooked meat generates x heat which could spawn screamer/ horde. Just a thought.

My point was is doesn’t really matter what alpha your comparing. Farming is being treated as an inconvenience or something that is quote “optional”, instead of being an important aspect of the game you can progress in. It, like other systems, are being chipped away for the new meta...looting.

Also, the only ones who could ever own hoes are TFP. Zazing! :highly_amused:

Edit: I think I’ve expressed my concerns enough about this. I’ll hold out to see if MM changes his mind or wait for A18.

One idea would be to add a fertilizer item and then you upgrade ground with it, and craft plots with it. Then you wouldn't waste nitrate repairing traps, but honestly I just want to keep it as is, we're in content lock and fiddling with this ♥♥♥♥ will just set us back. modders can easily restore the old way if they are married to it for now, I don't want to break content lock because a few angry guys who haven't even tried it aren't happy.
Hey, that's a good idea. Because it's promoting time spent into what feels like a different mechanic. I know clicking on a block isn't different, but because it's a different tool and result, it feels like it.

Leaving it as it is for now is okay for now, but please understand that most of us loved the more in-depth gaming style and differences the game offered. That's what impressed me about early game. Not just zombie killing and looting.

its the weekend... devs enjoying it with families and the crumb system does not work the way you think... catch faatal's attention if you can after the weekend... maybe he can enlighten the topic. :) )
So... yes, a crumb system is nice... BUT...

ALL of the Devs are taking a break THIS weekend... FOR... NEXT WEEKEND!!!!!

Oh, all the signs are there, getting completely rested for the final push and the following working weekend of hotfixes!

So, Monday is it for us!!! Somebody called it first, was it Guppy? Good call whomever!

Is that enough time to test the two builds MM hasn’t played yet? I’m holding my hype for now.

I'm still believing October sometime. If it isn't October, then I'll be surprised, but if the release date turns out to be October, then I won't be "disappointed". :p

(No disappointment would be felt; it will come out when it will come out.)

If I wanted to play a looter shooter I’d play borderlands because 7dtd gun play sucks big time and I don’t see a big revamp. People like the game because you can do anything in it. Build, Farm, Kill zombies, set traps, cook and craft. Nothing should be developed to take a back seat. It builds immersion and creates relaxing sections in between the action to reduce burnout. Farming defiantly needs to be more LITTLE bit more complex.
Exactly! I love the build up 'til day 7, but otherwise I miss zombies being an essential nuisance to all the other things you had to do to prepare for it.

Killing zombies gets annoying if you have to do it too much, which is where all the other system in early 7 days came in to make this really great blend of survival and balance of tasks.

My current game has high biome spawns and I gotta say, the constant harassment is preventing me from looting pois and it's a real struggle to get prepared for blood moons... 4 deaths, only three pois looted, bears and wolves (thank God for the meat!) but no forge, or any other workstation except a campfire... Found ONE pot, still no grill so living off of wasted meat (charred).

And it's a blast. Had my day 7 and it was easy, but the rest has been a challenge.

Are you playin in A18? Sounds like it, if so, nice, give'm some good feedback. It would be neat if they put some of these later builds into experimental option on Steam and just gave passwords to those who are here in the forums so peeps can try things before they make assumptions and wig out. They could be timed or something maybe, and we'd know wipes were going to happen. I can see why it wouldn't be publicly released, but for us who take the time to come here, why not?

No, 17.4 with a mod (Dead Rising).

Spot on, I almost posted the same thing.
I am one of "those", and only a ginger can call another ginger ginger;)
Oi! You redhead! You reversed carrot! You lighthouse!

..

At least those were the things thrown at me ^^

I don't know why getting "sandwhiched" in POIs or having to constantly watch your back is perceived as a bad thing. It's one of the few exciting moments in the game. Looting at your leisure is, well... more boring. General difficulty has nothing to do with it, so it can't make up for it. Besides it doesn't always happen. Hopefully that doesn't go away with the decreased roaming spawns.

Still don't understand this change from a gameplay perspective - it is my impression that the vast majority of feedback asked for the exact opposite. Anyway, time will show.

The way I understand heat is that it's an abstraction of general activity, sounds, smells, changes, in an area. Too much and a horde comes.

Breadcrumbs sound like a more granular system that tracks moment-to-moment evidence of activity for a brief duration. This evidence could attract local attention at a smaller scale leading to the discovery of a player by nearby entities.
