However, there are hardly any designs for melee bases left in A17. It's probably the high block damage caused by the zombies that makes it difficult to build a melee base that lasts longer. Glock 9 has tried this a few times and always had to retreat to its alternate position after a few minutes.
My melee base usually held up all night, but my co-players often didn't use melee even when standing in the melee cage. The zombies had an unobstructed way to us around a corner, so the zombies mostly tried to go around the bend instead of hitting the cage.

Naturally I didn't tell the zombies about all the twisted wire and electric wire and the shotgun turret and the 6 dart throwers on their "unobstructed" way to us. :cocksure:

Theoretically, would you still have randomly generated terrain if it was static? Or are you talking about pre-made static maps ala Ark?
Personally randomly generated terrain \ cities is one of the biggest draws of this game. I get what you're saying about mining though, if you get down to it there isn't much to it. You could just approximate it with mining POI's, and allow players to build up but not dig down so you could still alter the landscape but just by adding onto it and leaving the original mesh alone.

But if it (or a theoretical sequel), ended up with completely static non-random maps, I would lose interest very quickly. Mining through, I could definitely lose. (Especially if every POI just had like 10 ft of diggable dirt underneath so you get some deformation but not the entire map.)
Static terrain wouldn't remove our ability to make random gen worlds. The terrain is already static in the distance. Literally the only change would be you can't dig cant destroy water, and much better performance, better navigation, ability to drive 50 mph, the list of benefits are huge.

Joel, i respect You :) .I was in Dagestan from 1996-1998yy, the political situation at that time did not allow me to appreciate this beautiful mountainous country.

I know that Dagestanis respect only those who respect them.

And i, to some extent, with them in solidarity ;) .
Ok then practice what you know then, most of your posts seem disrespectful, but maybe its the language barrier.

Even now you could implement a custom navmesh system that calculates on-the-fly. It's not like the concept behind a navmesh system is a secret and nor is it particularly difficult to implement. Damn near 80-90% of the blocks can be simplified to some form of cubic variant. That makes the polygon creation pretty damn trivial.
Your next point will likely be that you don't have the time. I'd say there's still time to do it. It's not like you can't afford to stick a programmer in corner for 6-12 months to implement it.

Is it not worth it to have spiders climbing along the ceiling or take the Behemoth from the cutting room floor? Is it not worth it for the extra zombies alone?
Faatal decided to keep A*, to him its probably apples vs oranges.

I'm curious @madmole, what would you say is your single most favorite addition/feature/change of A18? Personally I'm going to have to say the reworked perk system, but I haven't even tried it yet.

And while we're at it, MF report?

I found history boring af until I got into college and instead of repeating the same 200 years we were reading newspaper articles from back then, diaries, and getting a much better feel for the bias, and that woke me up to realizing the kinds of biasness we see in every day events.
Yeah its interesting now, but as a teen I didn't care in the slightest.

What is your opinion on Skyrim's route? (As you level up lockpicking, you can lockpick more advanced keyholes with a lesser chance of the lockpick breaking.) If balancing is in order, do you think a simplified variant of this system would be an appropriate solution? Just curious.
Edit: For instance, as you level up lockpicking, you would be able to break into different tiers of safes. (Wall safes, then gun safes, and following that, hardened chests.)
I like Skyrims, but we didn't have time for a fancy GUI. What we have works, I don't like locking players out of better locks. We'll probably need to polish it during 18, its kind of a stub right now.

My stepdad has a Degree in Medical Biology... He sells commercial real estate lol and makes far, far more. Almost everyone I know has a career unrelated to their degree. It's a crazy world.
Yep, which is why I tell people to follow their heart and find something you love to do, get awesome at it, and you'll never work a day in your life.

It sure doesn't help it be on topic to discuss UFC's last match ;)
I don't know how remarking on this makes me a hypocrite, though. I'd say it makes you more of a hypocrite to say that you can't read all and that some questions won't get answered, but apparently having the time to answer all those other absolutely unrelated questions, even in great detail, while telling other people off for writing walls of text that are more related to the game.

It's okay. Since Roland made it clear in his last response that he's not strictly moderating the thread then I'll feel free to debate you over off-topic things you bring up that I disagree with. I don't normally do it because I don't want to make it an off-topic conversation, but since it's allowed I'll just do that. It's the seeing posts of yours that I disagree with and not being able to respond to them that gets me.

And yes, I'm sure I'll get crushed many times in a18. I *hope* I will. That's part of the fun ;)
In some cases we have a solution already and I don't want to read all the ideas, but I don't want to announce it either because until its done, its just an idea that might work on paper.

Yup built my business into a multimillion dollar business. Worked 7 days a week, 60-80 hours a week for 25 years. It wrecked my health but the business runs with small inputs from me leaving me time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
My son got BA & MA in communications and couldn’t get a job. I had told him that medicine was the field where you would always have a job. So after wasting 6 years and tens of thousands of dollars, he’s working on a masters in nursing to be nurse practitioner...guaranteed employment anywhere. It makes you want to strangle these kids for not taking our advice seriously.
I tell people to be a nurse all the time, help people, amazing benefits, good pay that can lead to amazing pay if you keep getting upgrades along the way. Holistic practioners with a nursing degree can charge 250 an hour to consult hormone therapy and anti aging and make a killing, sell supplements etc.

Then that is different or a change from what I heard. Madmole will have to clarify. I was under the impression all blocks will destroy to air. If they want the steel to be siding over the top of concrete....so be it. :)
Altho you make alot of sense and this is probably a good simplification. My gut tells me people will miss the downgrading block aspect as it gives a sense of fear that the zombies are about to get in. 😅

Im Off to buy some more tissues.
Dude...The world can't afford for you to have that job. We can't afford that many tissues. Based upon your post history, we'd wipe out half the forests on the planet from an hour on Pornhub.
